Nah, I got 4.5TB with 6 1TB drives in raid 5 on my main server. Idealy I should look at raid 6 though... but I do have a hot spare, and 2 cold spares.

Raid is not backup, so you should always have backups regardless. Raid just saves you from having to restore the backups, reset all the permissions, and overall deal with the downtime.

Here is my CCNA/CCNP hardware lab.

2x Cisco 1841- Each one has 1x WIC-1DSU-T1 and 1x WIC-2T, along with 32 mb flash cards. The one out of the rack is down for a fan replacement.

2x Cisco 3550-24PS EMI

1x CyberPower 1215RMS

1x StarTech RK12OD

Going to be going into some serious labs in a few days as I am preparing to get my 640-802 knocked out soon and then begin rolling into the CCNP curriculum. I have a few years worth of experience with Cisco products, just never actually knocked out the certs.

for sure, even with hotspare i would worry myself, i am getting into the TB storage area lately and worry about the best way to do it and not spend a boat load!
 
I am having a 10KVA UPS installed today with 90 mins of run time at full load. Pics when its finished.

III is as loud as the II. I actually have the idea they are louder than the 1's, but that could just be the config.

I got a hold of a 1950 last month and I'm quite surprised how quiet that one is. I generally had the idea 1U's are more noisy than 2U's.

Yes it was thank you. I liked everything about XenServer except the networking. Wish they would let you take more than two nics and bond them up. Actually was hoping it would act like esxi and put all those ports under one port group and then add vlans that way.

I like how they are all using telco racks and the servers are all back heavy..


DAM if dell saw that and they were fixing motherboards and stuff when they were mounted like that,, i'm sure WARRANTE would be void LOL!!

Yeah, they could have at least used 2-post adapter kits. But looking at the wiring, there is clearly no concern for anything. :eek:
 
in the middle of reworking the network at work.

here is what we have now:

the scary part is that there used to be 2 of those network racks, back to back. with a spider web inbetween them and no cable management at all on the network stuff.

I decomissioned ~7 servers, mostly large tower style poweredges that were either doing a)nothing b)replaced but atleast one minor function was never migrated to new hardware c) was a 'test' server that hadnt been used in years

I still shudder when I see it, but its so much nicer than it was

thats how I got rid of that many servers and a rack. and teh little POS nas boxes were in my office making noise

there are switches in 3 other locations in the building and its only like 5000 sq ft per floor and 2 floors....150 feet long so no reason for no home runs...

have 8 HP 5120 EL's with 10GB cards in them on the way and some cisco 2911's to replace the old ass 7206 VXR running a really old NPE

I work for my countys 9-1-1 dispatching center. the county EOC(emergency operations center) is next to the server room, and that controls most of the room. a projector, 85" LCD, 4x50 in LCD's, like 15 computers all hooked into it, and HD cable feeds

this way they can pick and choose displays for weather, 911 call mapping, GIS stuff, live news feeds ETC

I use those on occasion too, esp for monitors. and LCD does not need its own like 12 gauge AC cable!

Better move the racks away from the service box before you screw them down. As soon as the fire marshal sees that, he'll cancel your occupancy permit (if he's competent and concerned).
