Interesting...

"Pepsi Wild Cherry: a cherry-flavored variety, introduced in 1988. Available for a brief period in the UK in the late 1980s, and relauched as "Pepsi Max Cherry" in 2011. Originally called "Wild Cherry Pepsi", its name was changed along with the formula in 2005. Now uses the 2008 Pepsi design."

Way off topic, but...

The 'chemical' is caffeine. In Mt. Dew it exceeds the level permitted in the UK for "soda drinks". Pepsico could sell Mountain Dew there as an "energy drink" quite legally, but they don't want to market it that way.

Actually we do have Mountian Dew Energy but it doesn't taste the same :( I have to import it.

Anyway we are way OT here.

I kept making fun of them for a company I do wiring for, they got me a NFR :) to learn on and stuff, after the year is up, it's mine to manage and license :)

I rate sonic walk in the same bracket as watchguard, not fantastic not terrible but not good value.

Depends what you are doing but I would rather have a 5505 or even an 1841.

And what are you going to couple with it to get the Content Filtering, IDS / IPS, Spyware and AV scanning. While it may not be the greatest thing in the world let's compare apples to apples here

And how much would all that cost for a 100 user setup? Cisco 5505 can do content filtering and ips ids and it doesn't suffer from the really poor GUI issues the sonicwall seem to have.

sw 5.8 isn't that bad, i like it..

sonicwall can also scan all traffic for malware & viruses. cisco can't.

Honestly not sure without digging back through some emails. But by the same way. What does the 5505 set someone back for the said example... I'm not sayin one is better or not. I'm a Cisco guy at heart too. Just didn't seem like a fair comparison

I can help keep things on track with the pics. I don't see that I posted this yet but I've had this Meraki MR12 unit for a few months. I'm not a fan of the subscription based usage, however overall functionality so far is great. I like them a little better than the Cisco APs when it comes to GUI managment (granted a good Cisco AP is easily managed through CLI).

I just purchased some switches (Cisco Catalyst 3550) for lab testing and hopefully will see those soon and will post more pics then.

If we are talking about firewalls then why can't we compare Cisco to Sonicwall?

You can. I think in order for it to be apples to apples though you need to choose the right series of SonicWalls. There's a few different ones (TZ, NSA, E-Class, etc.) for SonicWall.

Damn, that's a pretty cool little web management setup.

Indeed. It's a single sign-on management tool for Meraki APs. So if you have several in a building (or anywhere, for that matter) you sign-in to the main dashboard website to control them. I haven't been able to test how well that works but overall even just for 1 of these it's awesome.

You can manage maps and floorplans, there's automated email notifications when the AP loses connectivity, or changes are made to settings. Multi-SSID management is easy as well with built-in firewall capabilities to separate the traffic like you would with VLANs.

Meraki's are easier to setup than UniFi stuff, but that's going to change hopefully with the 2.0 stuff. :)

At any rate I'm dumping the Meraki's in favor of UniFi... Because those damn Meraki's are damn expensive, and the enterprise licenses also kicks your budget in the nuts. 14 enterprise licenses add up... Anybody want to buy used Meraki's? lol

You can... but if you looked up what dash has, you'll find that he not only has a firewall, but Content Filtering, Gateway AV, Gateway Spyware, IDS / IPS. You look up the 5505 and you have well a 5505.

Besides I wouldn't stack a tz210 against a 5505 anyways. I would rather stack an NSA240 against it and compare.

yes maybe but if you have 100 users and want to cover just the AV for 3 years on this firewall its.....

$7,191.00

sonicwall themselves say its their equivelent to the 5505

Well, i was at a audio meet yesterday in victoria.

Scored 2 of these plus 2 luxo lamp imacs :)

1u dual g4 1 gigs with no drives but functional

What are you going to do with XServs?

osx server :) run a webserver / mail server maybe, I know these are going to be power hungry beast's too.

the g5 needs processors memory & fan bank. for now ill just throw it in the rack so its out of my way.

the g4 dual needs hdd's and more ram.

My first web server that i had was server 10.2 loved it :)

I love the look of the Xserve but I just couldn't afford to run them! I expect they make netburst CPUs look like Atom CPU.

Yep i hear ya, the g5 is a little but more effeciant than the g4's but still heat producers :)

my xeon quad core 1 u asus server is dead quiet, compared to this g4 dual

Do a video mate, it would be good to see. I may do a full video myself once I get my IP CCTV re installed (we have just decorated the entire house)

good thing it has fan smart 1 & 2 because DAMMMM!!!!

Anyways i made a video, of first boot and the bios of me moving around in it.

Will be posting a build thread & iscsi configuration !

Those xserves take me back to 10th grade (2003) helping my school's network admin install a bunch of them in the server rack. One of them got dropped and the error light (showing the cover open) is still on to this day!
