Mike, I think the cover is just bent, it's been a while since I've seen it.

Looky what I found today! Old 1600 router was sitting on the shelf at work, now in the dumpster. Had to keep the CF card for posterity!

Din Rail mounted.. Also notice the input at the top.

And I haven't purposely cleaned off my desk because of the conversation the of the Red Pepsi Can. Now I'm going to clean my desk off

Still quite noisy!

hold on red Pepsi can?

Only joking! :D

thats the new one, till i flash the bios it will be that loud, the other asus server under neeth in the rack is silent, ill make a video when i move into house and show a demo of each 1 u being turned on etc etc.

You have a FC SAN at home?

(EDIT) Interesting, I see OpenFiler does support acting as a FC Target with QLogic HBAs, I would have never guessed that - pretty awesome. Please share some more of your setup with us!

Proper FC SAN? No.
But OpenIndianas comstar driver supports Qlogic cards as FC(oE) Target. So why not, that's a some network load off from my normal lan network.

Some pics from my network gear at #4527.

On top of that i've 3 other servers here. 2 of em listed in my sig and one Atom 330 box running 2008R2 as DHCP/DNS/Printer server.
Tho NFS server is gettin upgraded soon, new board, 8GB DDR3 ECC and 4x640GB -> 4x1.5TB. Little later camp swap into Intel's, bougth a EX58-UD3R cheap yesterday so now i only need to find cheap LGA1366 Xeon :)

I guess I don't understand. My understanding of those 2400 series cards is that they're straight Fiber Channel HBAs, so no FCoE because they're not ethernet. Whereas FCoE, like iSCSI would run on top of an ethernet network where you would need fiber NICs instead of an HBA.

Is that incorrect?

I have no idea myself just started reading about this stuff.
So QLE246X's datasheet says following:
Protocols FCP (SCSI-FCP), IP (FC-IP), FC-TAPE (FCP-2)

If i recall correctly somebody used QLE256* card with Openindianas Comstar driver without problems.
But i've to look into this more after i get the LC/LC cables =)

Well your post forced me to read and learn a little about FC, of which I previously knew nothing. So I appreciate it, and hope to see more progress with your project. From what I've come to understand, some FC HBAs are known as CNAs (Converged Network Adapter) which combine an ethernet interface, as well as HBA, although I'm not sure if the 2400s are considered CNA, I would assume so if they say they support FC over IP. Either way, it looks like the comstar driver supports straight FC target mode, so since OpenIndiana and OpenFiler both support the ComStar driver for the QLE cards, I think you'll be okay one way or another, as long as ESXi's ComStar driver does the same.

Pretty cool stuff, and an awesome deal on the cards according to ebay. Let us know how it goes, and what you learn along the way!

Sure i'll either make a new thread or post here results and such =)
Oh right i believe these belong here too:
Picked these two last week :D
