they are network load balancers, made NAT clusters with them. I've sued similar products from F5, called BigIP, they're pretty cool.

Are those Load Balancers? At any rate, they look cool. :p That's worth $75 right there!
Yeah, they're load balancers. I'm gonna try to resell them to someone who might value them more than I do in their current state; if not, they've got a P4 3GHz and 1GB RAM in them with a bunch of network interfaces and stuff, so if they don't sell I'll just use them for pfSense boxes when I move into my new apartment :D

Dang, now you made me want to go out and start looking for load balancers for my network. :D

$450 a pair is a bit much, though.

Haha true that..what if you tried using a Watchguard or Astaro box reverse engineered with PFSense? Worked for me :)

@xphil3: instead of letting all that gear collecting dust you should donate some of it to us needed network people :p :D

I've got rack space, but bandwidth is expensive here, and security would be a headache :(

I should have accepted this other job then. Part of it was helping out managing a colo

The 7206 / NPE-G1/2 was always my favorite Cisco router. That thing is a workhorse. 7300 is a nice refresh.

Just got done with CCNA courses. I'm impressed with simple router and switches right now :p

Will you ever throw any of it back into production? with the rest of your excellent setups? especially that Cisco that looks like a UCS Server? :)
yes, right now I have 0 room in my apartment so I have all of my gear spread across multiple homes. All of my stuff will eventually(when I get a house, back in NJ) be on remote power so I can turn it up as I please.

Originally when I saw those boxes(the one you think is UCS) I also thought that maybe they were first gen development UCS boxes.. but its actually a video surveillance Integrated services platform, which is a convergence device for analog and IP cameras with DVR capabilities. Pretty cool box, I have 2 of them :)

that's because you live in a closet :p ... I have 1200 sqft :D

I've still got you beat. 2 story house with a full basement.. I could run all that stuff out of my basement, but the electric bill wouldn't be worth it

Technically I got you all beat, but I'm cheating (21,000 sq foot lab w/VPN access ;)). I'm glad I don't pay that monthly electric bill, I couldn't even imagine how much it is.

How technically do you have us beat? If the lab was YOURS that would be one thing, but since your work provides you the lab it's really not the same

How is it any different? Think of it as my private $0 managed hosting. I can literally build anything I want in it and pay nothing for it. Last week I built one of our mcast topos for a prod issue we ran into (8 7600s, dual sup 720s). Next week I'll probably tear it down into an MPLS CCIE lab.

Plus, I can access it whenever I want, physically or remotely -- it's actually in the building I work at. But that's my playground. For the shared network gear in there, it's one of my duties to keep it up and running. I'm slightly less destructive on those boxes ;)

Yes, I know I'm grossly spoiled :p. When I leave this place I'm going to be disappointed, unless it's Cisco. They have some (more) intense lab environments there too.
