Need ideas

I definitely agree with much of what D_E is saying. I for one am one of those small guys, barely doing 4k ppd with at the end of the month should be 500k points. It would be nice to target people like me, the lower end of the stick, but how is the question? What constraints can you put? It seems that we have 2 focuses now, new recruitment and sparking new life in our "small guys".

I don't think we can do both at the same time, but both are worth doing.

A Gladiatorial showdown between a 1/2 dozen low/mid lvl lurkers would be quit interesting.
Heck we might even get them to post. :p

BAM... now that is someting I think would be fun to watch!!!

K... you need to dust off that old cooler you got, I'll bring the tamales... and where the hell is alan??

I dig it... we should do this, let me know what I can do to help.

OK, if its more fun that you want. :D

1. Establish a set time for entry into this contest and clear rules on who is eligible. N00bs, low PPD guys, or both.
2. There will be a set number of established Horde members who will get a vote. Guys (or gals) who wouldn't enter the contest and therefore have no actual interest in who wins.
3. Each established Horde member will have their own little contest or game the contestants will play to try to win the vote of that member.
4. After a set amount of time, the games end and the votes are cast, privately or publicly, whichever is preferred.

edit: I'm fine with a thunderdome style fight to the death as well.

and where the hell is alan??

Night classes, saves us from having a day care bill. Cooler's here, if someone could just get the damn Cardinal off of it. :D

Ya know alan... since you gave up smoking you've become a bit... persnickity so to speak:p

Honestly, I think this is a pretty good idea, and it would certianly wake shit up around here a bit... or make it maddenlingly confusing..... either way, I'm cool with it.

So, Kendrak.. what you think?

And alan, if your idea here was a joke, you can just forget about the tamales... your on your own

Crimeny... I already had to bust out a calculator today, now I have to get a dictionary too? :D

Anyone can do a raffle, other teams have pretty much perfected them. But this is the [H]orde, if you want freebies, you should have to put a little effort into it. And get hazed a little. :p

Alan, you're a mad, mad man.... making the small guys jump through hoops and stuff.

Sounds like I'm joining a folding fraternity.

I think sparking new life into small guys is the way to essentially recruit.

Newer members are gonna talk about what their doing, and not do it in a "pestering manner".
Whereas with a recruitment challenge, I feel that people would just mass PM people and piss people off which would have the opposite effect of what we are trying to do.

The way to breath life into this forum is gonna be from within at first.

I'm not advocating that we paddle anybody here. :D

That's an easy problem. New forum members only, no trying to recruit existing members. We've already nagged them half to death already. :D

Alan, your one of the [H]ard|DCer of the Month that will have a vote.
I will be another.

I think we need 1 or 3 more (to keep the number odd so no tie)

I want it for lurkers and lower ppd members. We have a bunch of 500 or so ppd that would make good use of a 8800GS. I don't want to have a brand new person that has never folded before because the card might not get used to fold, just end up on Ebay.

I think we should start something on Oct1. and then finish on Haloween......it could be scary :)

I'll do it; I'm as close as it gets to a neutral party around here anyway :D.

we'd need to advertise this a bit before we run it, so we can figure out who is the voter's, who is the contestants, and what not

I'm not sure if an event for each voter is a good idea ( i e lots of crazy events ) but maybe a series of qualifications everyone has to do over a few weeks (same time), then each person gets a grade on each place, and maybe one or two guys can grade on each area so we dont have to worry about each watching every move of every person

1) More posting in the forums
2) Who can make the largest ramp in 48 hours (to maybe get some of them with the "bug")
3) Most overall points in x weeks
4) Most helpful posts (some of these guys are IT guys just like us)
etc...

Well... I can't fold right now, laptops are horrible for that!

While it is hard to host a folding contest (especially with established folders here),
and you already mentioned you don't want just eBay profiteers:

How about a system build setup?
What are they (actally.. we) updating from?
Pictures?
What do we intend to do with it?
What'ya going to buy? (and in that tone)
What are your PPD now?

Because the 500k idea....
Someone already only getting 500... (is not really hardcore), and is not likely to stay for long.

I did folding a while back (this one had a screensaver...[on a Sony laptop...horrible idea]), but droped it once I needed my computer for other tasks (folding at home as a screensaver... that may get alot more people!).

So this may 'tie' users closer to full time folding.

The thing is I don't want to give the card to someone who is [H]ardcore and is gettign 40k ppd.

I would love for the card to go to someone who is pushing 1k ppd on a system and has been for a long time, and does not have the extra $$ to drop $50 on a gfx card for folding.

This contest gives them the chance to jump their ppd on their home system and the team gets the small (but important) ppd boost.

hmm... I have another idea:

"Extreme Makeover: Folding Box Edition"

start making interviews, and the most heart-breaking story wins!!
the top folders could be judges

I might steal this for my mini challenge :D

im not saying let the big dogs in, keep the "games" to people under 5-7k PPD, bonus points to thise under 2k

Argh... I got my 9800gt working again...

I don't like having to change my signuature.

I don't know if this is possible, but Kendrak, you should get a front page advert for this.

I think I'd jump in that extreme makeover, but I'd forgo winning, that should be about the time I start to rack mount my stuff lol

anyways, whats the verdict? bunch of back to back mini-games or a series of events all running at the same time? If we do a bunch of mini games, I think it would be better to give a prize at every point along the way, after each member's game. Just seems to me that we'd be setting up a long battle for nothing more than one card, now we set up so the winner of each battle gets a card, seems better to me, but hey, I'm just some guy

Let me know either way, as I'm no DCotM but I'd like to contribute to the prize pile if I can, this sounds like a good tool if we can get the necesary advertising, front page is key!!

well any folding GPU as a prize would be awesome for me. i fold on a 9600GT a 3850 and have another system running CPU client(s939) which is using onboard x300...so, while i am no where near the production of most of you, i still contribute as i am able.

i look forward to seeing what you may offer up and will happily try to win.

hmm... the "Extreme Makeover: Folding Box Edition"

sound a little "soft", how about. "Pimp my Fold Box" ? ;)

Here's the idea that I'm leaning towards, but I'm not 100% on it yet. Maybe 95%. :D

I'm thinking a sort of [H]ard|Forum scavenger hunt. After the last forum crash, a few of us discussed archiving as much of the history of the [H]orde as possible so that in the unlikely event that we have to start over again from zero, we'll still have a good portion of the history available. So my thought is to comb through my ever growing pile of transcribed threads, screenshots, links, etc. and come up with a series of questions. This will be a list of things that you wont be able to sit down and figure out after spending 10 minutes with the forum search function, but the answers will be here. Each contestant will have to send me their answers via pm so that the other contestants can't see them.

I'm not going to make it easy enough that everyone gets 100% of the answers within an hour of me posting the questions, but it won't be so hard that it'll take over 100 hours of reading to find.

input?

yup, get em looking thru the pages, maybe theyll pic up the bug lol

did we decide yet, one prize at the end of every game or one at the end of ALL games?

Hmmm..
Could cheat by using Wget or Teleport Pro to download the entire [H]ard|Forum site then search the files created with a simple search.

Getting yourself banned from the forum will automatically disqualify a contestant from receiving my vote. I can't speak for Kendrak or Zero, but I'm sure it will negatively affect the contestant in their eyes as well. :D

It's all one big game for Kendrak's GPU. Big and epic seems more fun than YAR (Yet Another Raffle).

A ban is an automatic disqualification from the contest altogether. You can hardly be a real member of the [H] folding team if you aren't even welcome on the forum itself.

what? is it against the rules to download the entire [H]ardforum?
