I need to replace my 7 year old rig, I5 3570 & Asus P8 z77 Vpro. It has been a rock solid system for 7 years, running at 4.28 on air.
Time for a new system with Win10, since support for Win7 will end.
At this time, closing in on 70, I don't do any heavy gaming any longer. But, I rather build with the 3700x using a X570 board, and have enough speed in the rig to use it for several years. I do have my current machine overclocked, but overclocking is not one of my strengths, I always needed to follow OC'ing examples and guides to get it done.
So, I do NOT wish to engage in any lengthy and tedious overclocking, mild OC is fine, but no more extensive tweaking and testing with Prime 95 etc. The current game I play is COD 2, yeah I know funny!
I would like to get back to some flight sim games as long as the planes are prop driven, so I can keep up! I also use the computer for all record keeping, investing, taxes, images, spreadsheets, databases, etc. Speed is important, but stability and reliability are MORE important.
My strengths in building are selecting good parts and cooling, have built 4 home grown water cooled systems, but now I run on air and would rather stay that way. Weakness is in BIOS settings as in OCing as I said above, but I can usually get through the rest. I have been told that some of these boards assist in OC'ing, hope that is the case, I would like to do some.
I have been reading on hardware for about 10 days, and I have decided to go back to AMD, both the web and a knowledgeable young person at Best Buy has convinced me the AMD Ryzen is the way to go. A concern is they seem to run hotter, but I can handle cooling. At first I was leaning toward ABIT, now after seeing a video on this Forum in another "which MB?" thread, I see the ABIT VRM is not good.
So, unless there is something else it appears to be either ASUS, and I cannot believe I am saying this Gigabyte are the two.
Years ago, there was usually a few boards most people used, with tons of info in endless threads on the Forums. Now I am not seeing these, to help with component choices. Every time I feel I have found the right board, I read bad reviews posted on Amazon or the Egg, and my confidence is busted, and I start searching again.
I wish to use 16GB of RAM, and from what I have read 3200 is about the right speed. I have SSD's, hard drives and that other stuff determined, video card is not all that hard to pick.
Also, I have been on the websites that are "PC Builders" and such, and those provided confusion as well.
Sorry for the long post, appreciate some ideas. I am leaning to Gigabyte, but I had a very bad experience with them over 10 years back, things do change.
Cost at or under $300.00
