Hey guy's hopefully you can help me out, I want to set up a pc for a cousin of mine. His budget is 600$ give or take including monitor.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Mostly web browsing. HD video.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
600$ including monitor.
3) Where do you live?
new york city.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
Need a full system. Want to go quad for future proof.Phenom or i5?
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Was planning on reusing old core 2 duo that I have lying around, but rather go quad for future proof.
6) Will you be overclocking?
I plan to overclock slightly on stock cooling.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
22-24 anything that can fit in the budget.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Immediately
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
N/a
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Will be using windows 7 64bit.Already own.

@ civictyper16
Are you willing to push the budget to $800 or will $600 a firm but slightly flexible limit?

@ jeremyshaw
Not that bad (good job on getting a quality PSU there) but it can still be improved upon:
- Ditch the WD 500GB for the faster Samsung F3 500GB drive
- Gonna see if there's a better case/PSU combo
- Don't include the Windows OS as it is not needed for this setup.

My goal is 600$ but slightly flexible. I'm going to have a talk with my cousin concerning monitor as 24 might be overkill although the samsung 24 at 200$ seems like a pretty good deal. He prefers intel but I can persuade him to go amd if i5 would be over his budget.

Thanks jeremy but I'm looking to go quad for this build. The price for ddr2 seems kind of steep compared for what you can get for ddr3 nowadays. Wouldn't onboard video make the computer chug as far as hd video is concerned?

Well, the cheapest quad out there (AMD Athlon II X4 620) is 100usd...

Also, I'm sorry, I missed the HD video requirement.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121310 for 37usd, but has a 15usd MIR.

I have one (well, actually from XFX, but that is not a concern), and it pushes 1080p BluRay just fine to my 21"/24" (both are HDCP compatible).

I also have the sg02 case from silverstone, and am partial to that.

I concur with the DDR2 statement. As for the onboard video, actually many onboard video solutions these days can offload the decoding of HD content as long as software is setup correctly. With that said, the onboard video of the mobos that jeremyshaw recommended does not offload the decoding of HD content. As such you will see chugging when it comes to HD content. The onboard video of the mobo that HG recommended can offload the decoding of HD content.

I have a question about that Antec case, tho. I've seen it posted around quite a bit, and I'm wondering what its strengths are. Any reason not to go with a Cooler Master RC-690 or a Lancool K56? Seems like they have a few extra features for about the same price. Just curious.

Thanks guys for the help the budget has now increased due to the monitor. What you think of this system?

You're missing a video card or at least a mobo with onboard video. If the video card route, go for the HD 4350 as a bare minimum. For the onboard video route, get a mobo based on the 785G chipset as a bare minimum.

Fixed for some reason I swore that had onboard video.Went with the Asus 785g or should I just get the 4350?

That Gigabyte mobo + the 4350 would be better since the HD 4xxx series support 7.1 LPCM audio via HDMI whereas the 785G supports, at most, 5.1 audio (that Asus only has 2.1 audio via HDMI IIRC).
