need for speed shift

Anybody know if this game supports a clutch pedal? The only setup i see around is a logitech g25 for 230ish. Anything else out there?

My mate from EA has a copy. i cant pop round his house this weekend but will give this a go hopefuly on monday or tuesday.

I'd completely written this series off but I must say I'm surprised by the glowing reviews (at least from IGN so far) and what I'm seeing around here and abroad. Heh, I may have to check this thing out.

Yeah I don't know. Every time i get my hopes up for a NFS game its complete crap. The reviews have me interested, but i'm going to need a decent demo before i even give it a rent.

if you knew anything about slightly mad studios you would know that this game wont be like any other NFS game

I'd really love to get things like Porsche Unleashed or High Stakes, and not that Underground "stick the neon under your car" tuning garbage. NFS died for me after Hot Pursuit 2, couldn't get into all those underground/undercover/carbon crap

Gimme back high stakes, 16 lap circuits with dmg model, or NFS:Ferrari made by NFS:porsche team, and I'm more then happy :)

+1. I had fantastic memories with Porsche Unleashed on my MS force feedback wheel.

I'm REALLY excited for Shift however. I was sad that Dirt 2 was delayed for PC... but happy now shift takes it's place for this month. :c)

Porsche Unleashed is my favorite Need for Speed now. I hope someone makes a modern version of it someday. I hope when they do, the all around in-car views will be intact as well.

IMHO that was the best NFS of all the series :)

Most Wanted is the best, nothing will ever come close. UG2 a close second. Shift looks good though, just a drastic departure from the series imho.

No it's not. Neither is Underground 2. Porsche Unleashed is the best one. No other NFS has ever come close to it, except maybe the one and only Road & Track presents The Need for Speed.

baaaaaaaaaaa Most Wanted was best series. I hope this is good. I prolly pick it up next friday.

Meh, I never liked Porsche Unleashed. I liked Most Wanted better.

Whoop de do. EA is still publishing it.

Who cares? They published Dead Space, too. That was a good game. Apparently so is this one.

Most Wanted is still my favorites in the series as well. I loved the cops and the chases.

Shift is looking aight but I personlly still find "hot pursuit" the best in the series.

As long as the game is good it doesn't matter who publishes or develops it. Both good and bad publishers and developers have their moments. I like the NFS games (having only played Underground 1, High Stakes, Hot Pursuit and Porshe Unleashed) and I hope SHIFT is a winner

Shift got some pretty good review scores in the 9+ range. I'm looking forward to this, Resident Evil 5 and Call of Duty MW 2. They might all take a back seat to Batman Arkham Asylum though.

I read over at the NFS forum that a demo is planed for the end of the month.

I'm really excited for this one. I haven't liked an NFS game in a while. Underground was decent, as was Most Wanted... everything since has been garbage. This should be a fun game.

I do miss the days of old however. I would love to see an NFS game go completely back to its roots. No tuners, no upgrades, no open cities. Give me closed circuit tracks in made up locations, and a slew of high-end sports cars. I still give Hot Pursuit 2 a go every once and a while.

Anyone picking or picked up this? It should have released today. I'm really thinking about it. The gameplay footage looks intense. The sense of speed looks incredible and the sounds of the car from the cockpit view sounds beast.

Anyone can comment on it if they got it? I have a dilemma... don't know what to get... Dirt 2 or Need for Speed Shift. Shift should be able to tide me over until GT5. And if you get the game, make sure you mention for what system. Idk whether to get it for PS3 or Xbox 360. More than likely i'll get it for PS3 but want to know which would be better.

I know people have this game now and are too selfish to post impressions / screenshots!

Shame on you all!

I kinda wish they stuck with street racing, that is why I play Need For Speed games. There are already two good sim games (GT and Forza) so I am skipping this game personally. I had planned to pick it up though until I realized it was sim/track focused.

Ah yes, the bumper, where real men drive. Only sissies drive inside.

Yep!

But if you insist...

Mark,

Are you using a wheel?

I've only been able to try it out at a friend's with a controller, and I'm looking for feedback on how many options you get to tune the wheel.

I was more interested in the gameplay aspects. How close is it to GRID?
From what I've played (through 1st Tier and one custom Spa race) of the feel, on my Logitech Dual Action pad (pc version) Grid with no assists feel's like Shift with all assists. I would say it feels more "simmy" than Grid.

I don't have a wheel, but I am looking to get one soon. I've been playing with the keyboard, and it sucks balls.

Thanks for the pics tho!

It is not like GRID at all. You really have to think about your driving in NFS Shift. GRID was pretty easy to just muscle through everything. Shift takes some more thought and more finesse.

Yes, it is far more sim-ish than GRID.

Ok, so it is more on the Gran Tourismo side as far as cornering goes then GRID where you could slide through the corners?

I've picked up Shift as well. (PC) A few disappointments I have, but otherwise seems pretty solid so far.

I find even on the highest graphic settings, the car textures are still rather low res. The tracks look great while driving though. Graphically, I still think GRID tops this game.

The sounds of the tires screeching is far too repetitive and not realistic imo. It's not varied enough and it seems like it's looping the same 2 second screech over and over on a turn. The engine sounds are strong and loud though, I do enjoy them.

The camera views are pretty standard, but let it be known I was never one for the cockpit view. I always used the bumper cam where you saw nothing but the track. I'd have to say though, this is one of the few games for me where the cockpit cam is actually playable. The did a good job with it, providing ample space to see without overcrowding the screen.

Handling wise. Yes as people have said, this is definitely more sim-eque. Braking properly is much more important in this game than GRID. There's some options where you can control how much the game assists you, I turn all of them off but I keep the actual car manufactured assists on.

Overall I'm sure I'll enjoy Shift. This isn't a GRID killer by any means, but more so a great addition to a racing collection. I'm sure I'd play both as they both bring different things to the table.

Worth getting you ask? Yes!

Love it way for than grid because

1. the game supports sperate wheel and pedal combos

1a. my momo force wheel, feels like it should, unlike in grid when i could never get it to feel right, had to use a 360 joystick.

2. cockpit view is awesome

3. easy is easy and hard is hard

4. it's a lot of fun

5. doesn't destroy your car in a hit (less realistic but more fun for me)

as for negatives

grid does have better graphics
grid career mode is a bit more interesting

I got it today and put in about 25 mins of gameplay. Initial impressions are very positive.

FWIW, it runs just fine on my E6550/P35/2GB/GTX260sp16 OC/XP Pro SP3 rig at 1920x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF, v-sync on and everything (except shadows) on 'high'. Frame rates are in the 50-60 range and sometimes dip into the 40s when there is heavy action on screen. Extremely playable, with no lag or stuttering.

Load times are a bit on the high side, and I don't like the stupid consolized menu system; also cannot change sensitivity and controls in-game.

Coming from the arcadish Grid, the controls take some getting used to. I've played with only the xbox 360 controller so far, haven't tried my Logitech Momo FF wheel yet. Braking is very important in the game; unlike Grid you can't just slide around corners, correct the line and power out. In Shift that's guaranteed to put you in the guardrails (this may improve once I get used to the controls). The default sensitivity settings aren't great, and I am still optimizing the setup; I suspect it'll play better with a wheel where the precision of control is higher.

Graphics are very decent except for the car models as a post above mentioned. They don't look as good as Grid's even when maxed out. Sensation of speed is much better than Grid IMHO.

All in all, a solid NFS game finally.;)
