acaurora said:That's why you wait for the iPod Tubes, which won't be available for a month. I am returning mine, taking the 10% hit, then going to buy another black 4 GB once it hits my store (I work @ BestBuy), then buy the Tubes once we start carrying them (accessory = high margin = big discount). While I wait for the Tubes to arrive I wont touch, breathe, or even stare at the Nano, otherwise I"ll get "distracted", lol.

Just a warning to the folks picking up the black one, it scratches ridiculously easily. I had it in my shirt pocket with a pack of orbit gum (not particularly abrasive) and it has a ton of scratches already. And of course I can't find any cases yet...
Hal|9k said:Apple, once again, nails style right in the teeth. This thing is HAWT. Certainly overpriced and decidedly NOT cutting-edge technology, but I'm smitten. If I wasn't still "on the honeymoon" with my iMate Jam, I'd have already mugged the debit card.
I saw the commercial Thursday night during the Pats game and it was an eye-opener, for sure. Funny thing is, I had no idea it was coming. I'm surprised it's bumping off the mini, too, since it's taking that niche and lacks some of the mini's functionality. Seems more like what the Shuffle should have been in the first damn place. Oh, well. It's still hawt.

Who wants to? I don't know about you, but anytime I listen to music, I love mine to be edited, interjected by obnoxious DJ's and interrupted every 10 minutes by un-ending commercials. I gotta have that!!!

I never liked the I-Pods. The nano in black is cool looking but the 2 gigs of space just is a major major turn off. Style is no excuse at that price unless your rich.
I think the chip is soldered on to the board. And even if you put a new chip on, you'd have to deal with the firmware since its solid state. Its not like there is any old chip in there. There only two makers of the chips. The 4gb is the Samsung and then the 2gb seems to be either Samsung or Toshiba. I expect that the firmware is locked to those two. But we can all wish I guess. hah...I bet by the time the 8gb chips come out and someone figures out how to put one on, my warranty will be up. tee heeDisco_Stu_04 said:Another little tidbit is the solid state memory is detachable. Theoretically, just like I did with my normal Ipod (10 Gig=>40 gig off ebay), you can swap out the flash card for a larger size when one becomes available.
So, in a year when there is a 8 gig flash card, pop it open drop in the new one, badda bing, upgrade. At least, that's what I am hoping.

acaurora said:Also, Sony has released a flash MP3 player, the NW-E507 I think, i forget the name. It's 512 to 1 GB, uses a very sexy OLED display, and is rated at 40 hrs (or 50, i forget again) of battery life! I like it a LOT, although the color LCD and the damn thiness of the Nano is what made me get that instead of the Sony, which has MUCH better sound.

Night Fox said:Why buy some horrendously ugly, bean-looking, piece of shit when you get better technology in a better package for $20 more bucks?
Plus, if you order directly from the Apple store, you can get "Sony sucks!" (or Creative for that matter) engraved on your nano for free!![]()

Rich Tate said:The iTunes s/w may not be great, but still easy for a average user.
Night Fox said:I used to be a hardcore Winamp user, almost to the point of being a fanatic. I have been following the growth of mp3 since its inception. How many people on these forums can say that they listed to their first mp3 on Winplay 3? Then Winamp was born and I was loving every minute of it. Then they built the plug-in system and it got even better. I always thought that the feature set and performance of Winamp was unrivaled, but when I wanted to catalog and properly organize my music, Winamp just didn't fit the bill. That and I wanted easy and proper integration with my iPod. So I tried iTunes and have been in love ever since.
The only real gripe I have about iTunes is the sheer lack of visualizations and plug-ins. But it's alright, because I get by with some R4. It's nice because it works with anything.
Which leads me to my question, what don't people like about iTunes? BTW, bloat is not an option.

Rich Tate said:Here are a couple of my gripes in general:
1) No good documentation in the product
Rich Tate said:2) On a freshly installed machine, I had to disable the services it installed, to make it properly run. It would not let me disconnect the iPod anytime that stuff was in the background.
Rich Tate said:3) Bloated install. I don't want quicktime to run my mp3 player.
Rich Tate said:4) And it (the iTunes s/w in general) is bloated. Sorry but thats a big deal to me.

Rich Tate said:I have yet to figure out totally how the library works, haven't really played with it much, but It's also not very clear. I'm not sure if you can have songs in the library and not on the iPod etc. That's why I gripe about having a nice book bundled with the product.
You can't run iTunes without QuickTime, since it uses QT for audio playback and such. NOT bundling them is not an option. It is possible to download iTunes separately. But since some features of iTunes, like Video Podcasts, require QuickTime; why not bundle them together?
