I'm going to be running a naked PC.

Its a PC Chips mobo with a Sempron Processor in it, so my plan is to put the mobo in the mobo box. I'll cut a hole for PSU power, CPU fan intake, I/O panel cables, etc. I'll probably sit the HDD and PSU on top of the box or in another box. I'm putting them in closed boxes to reduce noise, reduce chance of being broken, etc.

My question is, what is safe and what isn't. Should I run the parts on the bare cardboard, should I run them on an anti-static bag, or on the foam padding that the mobo's ship on? What's safe? Same question goes for the HDD and PSU.
 
stick some 50 mm fans in the box to blow air across the motherboard.

id' stick the board on stand offs, too.

Make sure to cut Holes in the box and mount the fans in or near the holes, or you will be just building a blast oven. Cardboard boxes are very well insulated, thats why the homeless use them to sleep in, with out fresh air you will be just blowing around the hot air and it will just get hotter and hotter, you need intake and Exhaust fans, cool air in, hot air out.

no case for an old junker...300mhz k62...oc to 350 wohoo lol

ill cut up an old mobo case box....strap a ps to it... should work out ok? maybe even tape 2 boxes togeter lol....
 
It should work.Just make sure the mobo has some standoffs. Here's a thread that you guys should check out:

The motherboard should be fine just resting on the cardboard without standoffs. It might sit a little more stably with standoffs, but it'll work fine without them. I would recommend against using the foam or anti-static bag, as those are both designed to dissipate static discharge (and every other kind of electricity, including signals and power on your MB).

(meaning those bags and foam are conductive...)
