Headless, Mouseless, and Keyboardless. FreeBSD and Windows Dual Boot Server.

Totally air cooled and completely silent. At 5 feet you cant even hear the harddrive.

Edit: Specs

P3 533 Mhz PC133
384 megs of RAM all PC133
Radeon 9200 32mb with TV out
Onboard Sound
NetGear NIC 100mb
250W psu
80 gig Maxtor Diamond Max (when they say quiet, they mean it)

great looking caseless mod!

also, on your cd holder, what kinda pix are in "my pics" ? :D

oh yes, and should we ask why his WinXP SP1 disk isn't in it's retail case? i suspect some w@r3z lol.

im sure its his "backup" copy. :D
im assuming you dont have kids Lurker with the psu exposed like that.
good work though, silence is a good thing.

looks awesome. but it may look a bit better if you went out and bought a rounded IDE cable.

No kids, thank god.:p

And actually i bridged my hands over the heatsinks and it does shock you, but not enough to fuck you up like 110 volts.

About 600 megs of high res porn.

I think i spent like 55 bucks on the whole computer.

I bought the harddrive for $40, 80 gig maxtor deal and i paid $15 for the radeon 9200 32mb with TV out(you know what its for).

Well, basically what I want to see here is your naked computers  It's sort of like an antimod since there's no case to mod hence why I didn't post this in the gallery  Post your pics and your reason for running naked ;)

Here's mine:

I'm running it naked cause I don't have an extra case lying around and I'm too cheap to go out and buy one. I've been using this computer for web surfing and downloading, noisiest component is the hdd, BTW it's a celeron 300A :D

edit: just upgraded it to a celeron 600 which uses 5W less power (12W)

Looks like a NIC to me. The wire looks thicker than phone cables are, and the jack looks a little too large to be RJ11. :p Plus, every modem I've seen has 2 jacks on the back, that card looks like it only has one jack.

What's that 300A running at? :)

it's running at 300  I know, it's a sin... I have bumped the FSB up to 100MHz before but I like to keep it at 66MHz so that it runs cool

Not to mention there's no isolation transformer. All modem's I've ever seen have 'em.

You could always make a case out of a pizza box, or a shoebox, or the motherboard box.

A: Carpet generates TONS TONS TONS of ESD.
B: THe bags and foam you are using are NOT insulators, they are semiconductors.
C: The bags ONLY work if they are completely enclosing the sensitive devices.

Basically what I'm saying is that the carpet is producing ESD which is travelling right around the bags into your board, CPU, RAM, and hard drive.

The bags are semiconductors, so your essentially shorting out, or putting a serious strain on your components. Your basically adding little resistors between each and every contact on that board and hard drive.

GET THOSE COMPONENTS INTO SOMETHING ASAP.

what does it matter whether its a nic or not. He said it was so it is. Besides its the case we are looking at here.

well I just went through desktop certification and SarverSystems is correct at the amount of static that will be generated there and considering it only takes 30 volts to damage IC's and you generate apx 500 volts just raising your arm in the air (and this is static voltage so it is low amp) some damage is being done every time you touch anything there...will it kill it on contact...probably not but it will set it up to fail...also he is right about the anti static bag...it will conduct some electricity on the outside as well

well i have this thing called "real world experiance" and ive touched a lot of components in my time, and none have died from it..this is including hearing a nice static pop a few times with NO effect whatsoever...also static ranges in the 10's of thousands of volts so yeh, it has the potential to kill stuff, but unless you touch right on an ungrounded chip, you probabily wont

i do know the antistatic bag conducts, i found that out the dumb way...my comp was on one and i was getting a bad ground through the headphones...moved the bag off of the contacts and it went away...thats why I do only use the packing foam it came with now.

anyway, heres my old nekked computer...i dont have it anymore, it was duallies. i loved that sonofabitch :(

Lol, I remember a guy on Virtual Hideout who has is computer mounted as a chandelier. OMG it was the ugliest fucking thing i'd ever seen...

I also have real word experience...I have been building/working on comps for about 20 years now...I am not saying that static will kill a component out right but it can and will damage it and in most cases nothing comes of it but with circuit traces getting smaller and smaller it takes less and less voltage to arc and blow a trace...oh and all it takes to generate static is to have two non conductors moving across eachother

I built a nekkid sys inside a mobo box with foam just like that once, and to make a short story even shorter the mobo died after a few power-ups it had earlier issues though so I dunno if it was that.
Anyway, go take some time and at least make a nice insulating cardboard box or something for your system because it might not die instantly from ESD, but you never know. Oh and i'm guessing you have no pets/children or such if you dare leave a computer lying on the floor like that.

Wow, that's one of the nicest "no case" (I use that term lightly ;) ) cases I've seen here!

I really like the metallic silver and blue. Goes well on anything.

lets not turn this into a flame thread :)

I have to get a digicam ill steal some pics of my ppr0 box that does nothing in particular that is all strewn about

Dinking around with FreeBSD a while back... on a PPro200 w/ 256 MB and two 6.4 GB HD's -
