While impatiently awaiting the new Fx Aqua Coolers ( some things never change) for my new system I decided to go ahead and H20 cool the CPU for OC'ing. I pulled everything out of the case and connected the Cuplex XT and the 360 Rad and did the Aqua ritual of filling and testing the loop for leaks. The P&C fittings as usual had no leaks the Aquaero booted perfectly, albeit in Deutsch. I was expecting the usual, no leaks and no problems.
Maybe I am becoming anal in my old age, but I always turn my case on its backside just to make their are no leaks. Today for the first time I had a leak. I was shocked to say the least. I checked my P&C fittings and found nothing? I was actually baffled. Keep in mind this is a very simple setup, 1 pump, 1 block and one 360 rad. There are also 4 T's with temp sensors for my future plans, but nothing extravagant. I drained the system, pulled everything apart and lo and behold my new rad has a few holes in it! Yes, I was and still am pissed. Fortunately, nothing was hurt in the process. The only thing lost was my time.
Adventures in H20 cooling. I am curious to know if any of you have had a similar experience.
 
ahh leaks, hm in my experience, i only had one leak and that was from the reservor not being fully sealed (bought everything used) and thank god i was running my system caseless so the leak was easily spotted after a few days nothing was damaged :p

I had a Swiftech CPU block almost completely trash my system. It was one of their supposedly-secure soldered copper units. Unfortunately, the solder let loose and coolant got all over my new S939 motherboard and a brand new nVidia 6800GT video card as well.

The owner of Sidewinder Computer and I had a discussion about it afterwards. He was skeptical about what happened until I sent him the block. Their relationship with Swiftnets might have suffered a bit as a result. By mutual agreement we replaced it with a Whitewater unit, which has served well in its role.
 
All my leaks occured because of loose connections, never had a radiator go - but I've had the same cooling cube for about 5 years.
 
I once installed the base of my MP-05 CPU block backwards. The O-ring was not happy about that and prompty leaked. :p
 
only leaks ive has is because i was cheap and used the 1/2" PVC tubing from home depot for 20 cents a foot. you have to crank down on the worm drive clamps so hard you just about shear off the barb in order to get it tight enough to seal it up good. il never buy that stuff again, tygon all the way
 
Sorry to hear!

I have leaked a fair amount of water on video cards and motherboards in my time. Nothing like some electronic spray and a hair dryer to take care of that. Most of my leaks were P&C connectors using RAM coolers.
 
So in your opinion, would it be safer to use non-conductive coolant vs water? I know water cools better, but I'm also not rich and a leak of non-conductive coolant is easy to clean up, whereas H20 is easier because i would most likely be tossing that $250 video card out with the trash.
 
I had a Silverstone water block top crack on me not to long ago, it split out right at the barb. No major damage that I couldnt fix on the computer, but the crap block went in the trash.

I have two probes in my loop. One on the waterblock and one at the exit point of my loop and both read exactly the same. I was kinda bumbed as I was expecting the water to be considerably warmer at the exit point of my loop then at the CPU block. Oh well.. Hopefully you won't have 4 readouts all showing the same temps.

BTW, I failed to mention that Sharka overnighted me a replacement Rad! Wes is becoming the eVga total cooling. It is nice to know that there is at least one vendor that has their collective s#%t together!
 
The new Rad is working with no leaks! Once again, it is important to note that Sharka sent me a replacement within two days. It has been 7.5 hours and no leaks. I am extremely happy that the 2 AC 8800 GTX coolers will be here next week and they will promptly be incorporated into the system, thanks to the big guy for the AC shut-off valves.
I will post pics of the 1/4 H20 and the 3/4 air cooled rig tomorrow, however, soon to be 60/40!
 
The new rad, Aqua 360 Extreme, is operating nicely. It has been 24 hours of leak free testing. I will post some pics tomorrow after I have the PSU and the rest of the cards installed. Here is an overview of what the finished system will be:
