Holy big pic batman. I am on 1440p and it still spans the screen. Try resizing that.

Why complain, you bought it from Ebay. So do what every other person does and just dispute on paypal, and get your money back. If it had been craigslist (and you did not see proof of it working) you'd be royally screwed.

I would not buy computer parts on eBay. You can find all you need right here on [H] or go to Newegg/Amazon.

WTH. I see focus on U502B and assume thats a something leaked onto the board? how does the other side look..

This. I don't buy or sell person to person unless it's on here. Ebay is horrible. Otherwise it's Amazon. Newegg lost my business a long time ago.

For the record I would also never go to ebay for a GPU. I have bought RAM there, and cases. Anything else that is not a peripheral comes from [H] or brand new from Amazon/Newegg/NCIX.

Try to work it out with the seller, if they don't solve it in a week open a dispute.

If the seller claims shipping he needs to contact the shipper, and then he'll be guilty of mail fraud. There is no way that happened in the mail. It's not on you even if the damage occurs during shipping.

paypal dispute it , you got 180 days for full price , so why worry :D . Say no no to ebay .

We've been in convo. He's a funny guy. Says it's normal for it to be burnt like that. I shit you not!

I guess from now on I will be saying no to ebay for used computer parts anyway. It's not worth the gamble.

I got my ass burned three times on ebay , not again even if they give it for free.

Ebay is a trap !!! :D

Shitty people on ebay for sure. Paypal/CC dispute is your friend though.

Did you inspect it and find it this way BEFORE trying to install it in your computer? If not then as far as I care your system could have blown it out.

Either way, just get a refund. If I were the seller and I legit knew that it was working fine before I shipped it, I'd probably be a dick and make you pay return shipping.

The one time I bought a GPU on ebay, the seller shipped it in a box that had previously been cut in two and simply taped back together, not to mention it had been crumpled up quite a bit so it was pretty soft. On top of that, the gpu was just tossed in there with a just a bit of bubble wrap around the ESD bag, which barely occupied half of the volume. I'm amazed it arrived in fully working condition with only a bend on the top of the PCI bracket that I was able to fix with some pliers.

Never again.

Damn cable has been out all night...but as a matter of fact I did. I pulled the hsf shortly after i unpackaged it, which was packaged like shit btw, and had a bent bracket just the last post described, only a little worse than that. Strange. I pulled it to see how badly the thermal paste was applied, and it was, gobs of it smooshed off the sides. But I knew immediately after noticing that area that this thing was pretty much going to be doa. Replaced/installed...No signal, fucking smoked.

I don;t completely agree. It all depends who you buying from, and their history feedbacks, etc. I had bad experience with NewEgg as well, so you cannot predict anything for electronics.

What's the seller's name? Let us know!

File a dispute with ebay/paypal, make sure to include the pictures when you do, and you'll be good to go. That way if he wants to be a dick and make you return it, he can't claim you're returning a different card and trying to scam him. And obviously get a tracking number for the return shipment.

Having been through several of the ebay/paypal dispute process before, it's pretty much a definite thing that you'll get your money back. I've had buyers refuse shipment on an item they won, then file a claim for "item not as described" - and then had ebay issue them a shipping refund AFTER I issued a refund myself. It's so biased towards the buyer it isn't even funny (but that makes for more business for ebay, so, whatever).

I've sold some PC hardware on ebay before, but I mostly avoid it these days; the selling fees and general unfriendliness they have to sellers was just killing me. Plus, stuff seems to sell faster here anyways.

Yes, you in fact can predict it. Read all of the above posts about Ebay and PC components.

I won't buy a GPU from Ebay unless its new from Newegg or something on sale (sometimes their ebay store prices are lower) or it is dirt cheap and I'm willing to gamble. I got an R9 270 pull from a brand new Dell for $65 and it works great, I don't think it had ever even been powered on before I got it.

Most of the used cards I wouldn't buy with someone else's money. Half of them are chucked on the carpet to take pictures and the other half have been mined on since day 1.

This is an actual email from him to me (not a real handle), but he's so deserving of the title

Hi, can you also sent me the information of your computer information. what types of operating system you are using. the PSU wattage. motherboard model., I looked at the the picture you sent me, its normal for the tin material to turn black. normally, brunt out will occur on the circuit, or next to the core. I hadthe recorded that the graphic card was still working before i sent it to you. if we can't get this graphic card to work. we would have to file a claim to the carrier requesting for the lost coverage
Needs more anti-antistalling!

I made a dispute this morning and he already escalated it into a claim. You could say that escalated quickly! Hopefully I can have my money back sometime today or tomorrow even. I've never wanted that 290x lightning any more than right now, and they're back to $350 @egg, which will have to do I guess. The only reason I bought this was because they moved the prices back up to $390 just as I was going to buy, so I gambled and lost.

Sellers immediately escalating to ebay = immediately decided in buyer's favor. Sellers who immediately escalate know they're in the wrong so they're hoping ebay will have a brain fart and side with them. Last time this happened to me I bought a projector that was listed in good condition. Power it up and it squealed like a mofo. The kind of high pitch dog whistly type squeal that makes you suicidal. I told the seller they can either partial refund me because I paid extra for one of these items (many were listed in varying conditions) or take the item back and give me a full refund. Instant escalation to ebay. I won.

"file a claim to the carrier requesting for lost coverage"? The fuck?

So he's proposing defrauding the delivery service with a false "lost" claim?

Your guess is as good as mine, I honestly don't even know wtf. Pretty much everyone of his replies are incoherent ramblings. The really sad part is I think he's a university student judging by his .edu email address. Yikes!, pray for the future people, things are going to get really, really shitty!

Apart from lost mail (thanks USPS!), I never had any issue with Ebay after more than 350 transactions.
In order to minimize risks, I would suggest to buy expensive items only from sellers with enough credential.

This unfortunate case makes up for two rules I have for myself regarding electronic components (esp. computer parts).

Never buy stuff you can't see with your own eyes

Never buy stuff that has been opened, much less used.

Cheaper? yes. Worth the risk? not even a little bit IMHO.

When I sold my last video card on Ebay, I took like 8 pictures of it, including the video bios splash screen, benchmarks, and a GPU-Z pic. Too much to do if you're a bulk seller, but my buyer was pretty pleased.

Wow some people in here have really bad issues with ebay. I've only purchased from 99.5% and up ebayers just over 100 times and not once had a problem.

Hell I just got a used Xeon cpu last night and it works great, again it was from a 100% seller and I lucked out and got a friend to pick it up locally.

Though if a deal is "too good to be true" then gtfo 'cause it probably is.

Probably pretty hard to find a bad processor though TBH, especially the LGA variety. If it's not missing capacitors and it's decently new it's going to shut down to prevent damage if the user really tried to OC it. CPU's are a safe bet for ebay generally.

How was the feedback of the seller? Did you contact them?

yeah, he's only got 4 stars, and they're all for him as a purchaser. This is the very first item he's ever sold on Ebay. Stupid of me, perhaps. But everyone has to start somewhere, and guess I gave him the benefit of the doubt. It really was one of those to good to be true deals as someone mentioned earlier. I think most people realize if they're selling bunk items on Ebay they're pretty much wasting their time (except this guy, apparently)

I've always been pretty carefree with ebay. I actually buy pretty much everything through ebay, just because of the convenience factor, and never have any problems. This is the first for as long as I can remember, and I've bought and sold video cards, sold a few processors, quite a few times actually. But will most definitely be the last used vid card I buy, it's not worth it.

XFX 290x with Arctic Extreme IV cooler $289 + free shipping.

So, how does one manage to do that kind of damage to a video card as new as a 290X? Bitcoin mining, or something?

They last so long for me that they eventually pile up in my house and I have to figure out how to recycle them.

not entirely sure. especially with the extreme 4 cooler on it. But if you need some help recycling a spare video card let me know. I'd be glad to recycle one for you, free of charge and everybody of course. Always here to help :)

As an ebay seller I'm horrified by the business practices of a lot of sellers on there. If it's dead, you ditch and accept the loss, not pass it on to someone. Those types give us reputable folks a bad name.

You can find stuff on hard but you don't have any more protection here than craigslist. And TBH hard is pretty slow. Trades / sales are painfully long to orchestrate and don't happen as often as you would think.

My problem with both Hard and ebay is that high end hardware just doesn't get much off in the price so I really don't hardly ever buy used. The good sales in Hot deals are almost always as good or better than the used prices and once you factor in the risk of doa / dealing with a person and ebay fees + shipping its pretty hard to beat the big etailers. I will also say that some things are more likely to be scam on ebay, high dollar items, new smart phones etc.... I have had almost 100% good transactions on ebay except in 1 class of items. Smart phones buying from individual sellers is hit or miss. A lot of undescribed problems and bad ESNs. But so far I have always got my money back minus a return shipping cost.
