MSI RX480 Lightning leak

AMD's use of them isn't arbitrary at all.
Well, that statement may need some historical evidence. And i can't be bothered lurking through AMDGPU source code for PCI-E IDs, especially since PCI-E IDs for Hawaii ES most probably don't exist there.

Outside of well known xxxF PCI-E IDs being for ES.

My opinion is to avoid it. It reminds me of when people were buying 2GB cards when 4GB was becoming the standard. It's worth the extra money for the 8GB version.

However, yes, it should be fine for 1080p. Plus I don't expect people who buy either to expect to run their games on Ultra necessarily.

The general upside for the 1060 and 480 4GB is that many people who buy them often upgrade a lot more often. So by the time games really start becoming RAM intensive, they may end up upgrading again.

It's in fact very similar to the situation we had with the 4870. That card was released initially with only 512mb, then a month later with 1gb. People were back and forthing about the need for >512mb at the time as well and it became quickly apparent after the release of several games that 1GB would be the new standard.

Hopefully, AMD chooses to release both the 4GB and 8GB simultaneously this time, but I wouldn't put it past them to delay the 8GB version a couple weeks to catch out the overly-eager and increase margins. I would agree, however, that the 4GB will be more than enough for 1080p for the foreseeable -- 1440p or higher, and 8GB is the way to go.

Since when 8Gb is standard? Consoles still have to use way less than 8Gb (IIRC at least a gig or two are reserved for OS), so i doubt we will see any more than 6GB used anytime soon.

Plus, if that comes to fruition, the first owners to cry will be owners of Fury line, and those tears will be delicious.

BUT THE PS4 HAZ 8GB OF SUPA FAST VIDEO RAM THATZ WY IS FASTER THAN PC MUSTARD RACE!1!!!
