seem to be two different cards. first picture has the 8 and 6 pin connectors swapped on the one you posted 6 pin is first form left but on the other picture its to the right of 8 pin connector. Probably still fake I guess lol, I don't trust anything at this point
 
looks seriously fake to me....whats the idea of a picture with 3 power connectors? Maybe an older 290x or 780ti....idk
 
Actually kinda looks like my 290x. I mean I'd be all for this cause I love the Lightning model cards but I tend to think this is fake.

Yea and correct if im wrong but lightning cards dont usually come out right away?
 
Also arent the Lightning range usually much later on and not part of their initial model releases.

I'm leaning fake. Here's the deal, if there is going to be an RX 490, wouldn't the lightning model make more sense for that? Not for the 480.
 
I believe the sapphire card but this one just sounds shady. The last picture just makes is fake, lol..
 
Seems shopped. Tell tale signs circled. First the lighter edge of the pcb above the middle 8 pin, while the rest of the edge is shaded the same except for that spot.
Second the big red square shows what looks like clone stamp artifact with the pixels being harshly sliced. The other small circled is perhaps less suspicious the more that i look at it, but thought perhaps the yellow trace or whatever is showing a shadow through the corner of the connector. But the other two are fairly suspect.

Watermarks are generally done in photoshop or the like, it doesn't necessarily mean anything up front, you can put a watermark on anything. I see the article now though. Could also be from compression then, but they are still things that would be suspicious.
I've never seen that card, or a card with that many power connectors, lol Damn, that's nuts.
 
The guy who allegedly leaked it said it's not an MSI Lightning, he put the cooler on it to avoid an NDA trap.

So, it's probably Gaming X card, am i following it right?

Or it has nothing to do with it and is simply a custom PCB with bolted on Lightning cooler.

Yes and apparently if final BIOS is not released, then he likely underclocked it to avoid further NDA traps on clockspeed...

This video shows him installing the drivers and going to Crimson where it's clocked at 1080 Mhz.

I think there's a good chance it's faked anyway.

I'll check it out later when my New Zealand internet isn't at 3rd world speeds.. :/

Seen them 1050-1080MHz when not at 1.2+... interesting spread of speeds and may lend credence to the NDA clock fixing suspicions.

But what gets me is that rumours are saying it is already being stocked and prepared for sale, and yet he is using a card that still is not showing the actual launch card name......
So something gives, and yes drivers will be worked on all the way up to launch and after, but you would expect these cards to be recognised by their consumer name now if they are being shipped everywhere.
Espcially when considering these distributed ready to sell cards come with an associated public driver.

Great point.

Either they're filling stock in suppliers or not... and if not, then why is the BIOS not final? It should be on a retail card.
Perhaps these are indeed NDA cards? Makes sense why he swapped the cooler if so.
 
How does changing the cooler have any effect on whats called nda trap? That makes zero sense to me.

NDA cards might be slightly altered or identifiable in a number of ways. If I were a smart company with a leak problem, I'd find a way to individualise some parts of the cards in order to make whoever accountable if leaked..

TLDR: We don't know for sure till 29th.
 
Its not a Lightning, some dude put a lightning cooler on it to dodge NDA.

Some said it ran at 92C, thats probabpy with stock cooler.

Kyle might be right after apl, but we'll see.



Edit: nvm, the 92C is because he mounted cooper improperly.

Also, AMD send out cards with different clock speed to see who breaks NDA

That right there is a 290X or 780. MSI started using 3 identical fans on the 980 Ti Lightning, along with a new shroud design.

That's a bolted on 290x Lightning cooler to "hide" NDA violation.

Did not work, apparently thread on Chiphell got a delete request by AMD.

So, now we can claim that in reviews, at least as far as canned benchmarks go, rx480 should sit right between reference 980 and fury. Better than i expected, but we can't trust canned benches, huh.
 
Ya, AMD is trying to find the guy ! cats out of the bag now and AMD should be happy really because I want a RX480 now to get those speeds from a $200-220 card..

6+8+8 is part of original card, yeah. He also posted a 6+8 photo.

And posted a recording of his card being shown as (and rage 67DF:C7 before that) rx480.

That is either a real leak. Or overdone fake.

Well the 1060 is probably being focused for 1080p and 1920x1200 mainstream gamers.
The 980ti with 6GB could run this game with Hyper setting at 1080p.
And tbh I doubt anyone is buying the 480 or 960 and expect to run Hyper setting at 1440p.

I am leery with AMD selling the 480 as a 4GB model along with the 8GB, just to say they have a card at $199....
480 tier on this generation should not be 4GB IMO as this is going to come back and bite those consumers who could had spent around $30-$49 (worst case scenario) more for the 8GB model.
I still think the 480 8GB model will be very well priced and competitive to the 1060, just concerned that people will purchase the 4GB model and due to the cards tier have expectations regarding settings that would use greater VRAM - more applicable to recent and future games.

The R9 390x can run it on Hyper settings with a broken driver at 55 fps. If this card is similar in performance I expect it to run it also. The purpose of AMD doing this is to move the old VR target to a lower price point because of advances in technology. Why would Nvidia release a card that is going to be gimped? Just doesn't make sense. I'm hoping that the Videocardz rumor is wrong because people buying gimped cards in this price range is going to make developers develop games for a lower VR spec in the long run. Just frustrating even though VR is currently a very small part of the gaming ecosystem.
