What the hell is this MadVR everyone is raving about? I've been using MPC-HC as a stand alone and didn't miss any features thus far.
But it will take a long time for MPC-HC to die, as on some computers that I've installed many years ago the 2-3 year old versions work just as well without update. So I expect this will work for the next 3-5 years even as is, unless some radical new encoding type or container comes around.
Got it, thanks.Madvr uses your video card to make small and or crappy videos, more tolerable. Its like applying supereagle to your rom collection.
Long time mpc user here. Sad to see it go. Perhaps it could go commercial?
I'd toss $20-$25 in for a "registered copy".
Gonna give potplayer a try, just to see how it runs.
man thats, one of the best apps around:/

K-Lite contains a custom build of MPC-HC that contains additional fixes and improvements compared to the officials builds. This will continue in the future. The internal codecs that MPC-HC uses are also still actively maintained.

Well that sucks. I use MPC-HC x64 as my primary video player since the Divx days. I guess I'll use it until something breaks/changes.... I have VLC too and it's OK but I like MPC better.
That's good to know, thanks! I haven't messed with K-Lite in forever, as I do 99% of my own rips.
Just hope for no major vulnerabilities being discovered.
I always just stuck with MPC because the UI suited me. Everything else I tried I remember missing certain functions I used with MPC, things like forward/back button on mouse to change videos, clicking anywhere to pause/resume, mouse wheel to change volume on hover, double click to go full/window, easy to hide/reveal the controls in full screen, controls disappear fast on full screen toggle, non full screen does not have controls overlaying the video (WMP for example)
I remember trying VLC and it was missing some of the above. Also didn't like the look of the UI on VLC.
That sucks...I use it regularly as it seems to work better than VLC performance-wise on UHD content.
What do you consider the Divx days? Divx is much older than you realise.
Sadly I'm probably older than you realize, LOL. I had a HTPC in my living room in 1997, when my friends were like...whuts an MP3?
Divx days refer back to when I was ripping my DVD's and encoding them with the ancient Divx and Xvid codecs. 1999-2003. And it took ALL NIGHT to encode a stupid movie. As soon as recordable DVD became affordable, I abandoned it. Not referring to the stupid Circuit City dvd standard.
I just used it like 30 minutes ago, so not dead yet.
I replaced it with VLC on a different box... and while that works, I so much prefer the clean look of MPC-HC

New release 1.8.4 onlly 4 days ago, actually.
MPC-HC is far, far from being dead, thankfully.
I've been using the new Doom9 updates for months and I still think it's the best player around. The UI is clean, simple, and it simply works. Combine it with madVR and it's tough to beat.
PotPlayer m
PotPlayer can't be beat on featureset.
mpv is fastest.
I've had all these players installed for years, I follow all their updates, I bounce back and forth between them. MPC-HC and MPC-BE are great but PotPlayer is a thousand-tool Swiss army knife.
