I could be wrong but I think the days of dual GPU cards are over, unless multi-GPU support in DX12 really turns out great.

a dual gpu card is fine as long as the price isnt too bad
 
MainStream - What the majority of folks have - For discrete video cards I do believe 80% have less than $300 video cards. A rather huge market to tap into if you have an edge.

For marketing - Most of it actually comes from the AIB partners dealing with video cards, AMD will be working with OEMs as well as the AIBs.

If AMD has superior performance, lower power requirements, even size has a big effect for the price that will lure OEMs over where probably the majority of Polaris will be sold. I am sure Apple is stocking up on them as well. You don't see too many OEM's with high end graphics card - some but virtually nothing compared to the mainstream cards. AMD will win big.

Nvidia 1060 maybe a higher performing card but will Nvidia being able to make enough of them? Have better performance/$ etc.? Be timely? If AMD can manufacture Polaris on the whim, unlimited as needed - this will make for a very interesting half year.
 
Frys and Best Buy customers will eat these up. I was at frys 3 weeks ago. 3 People were looking at 960's and 380's, in a sea of 970's, 980's and 390's. Because of the price.

if you can keep the card cool and overclock it back to the leavles a single card is at it is nice

When I first saw that video I was a little perplexed. I just looked like it was filled with communist references, like the proletariat was uprising to get their affordable GPUs who had long been oppressed by the "1%". It's hard to imagine that no one who made that video didn't see the same thing unless they really are obvious to fairly recent history. Just found it odd. I mean I like the spirit of it, good enough not being good enough and all, but the communist references are a bit creepy.
 
Digging through this guy's youtube is interesting. I think I play everything he likes except for League of Legends. That game looks lame to me.

Especially considering the political atmosphere not only here, but in europe it strikes as being incredibly ill advised and easily off putting to some.

AMD seems to be consciously making an effort to hit the "Bernie Sanders" supporters with that kind of advertising campaign (or, at least, anyone sympathetic to, broadly speaking, those types of ideals). With the Cold War not even a memory in those born after the early '90s, apparently socialism and communism are once again "fashionable" in the domain of the cafe-society types. From a marketing perspective, it's actually quite clever (and very cynical, with it's taking for granted that young idealistic types haven't had a proper schooling and understanding of history).

I don't understand the marketing campaign. They're supposed to rebel against the 1% because no one wants a fast card? Hooray for mediocrity! Huh?

I think that is just reading way too much into it. I think it is just bad lazy marketing "hey our colors are red and we want to do the whole underdog thing, so what is hip today?". I doubt they are actually targeting young democratic-socialist with a deep desire for 4K and cheap VR.
 
Its not rebel against speed. Its cost. There whole theme is everyone should be able to game for affordable price. Thats all there is to it, if you read the article about this whole marketing campaign that was out after they announce rx 480
