More rumors.

this is not about being a fanboy we can surmise performance based on where the 1080 and the 1070 is and how NVIDIA has scaled down cards in the past.

No you cant lol.

Link to review or it didn't happen. We can't take out imagination as facts. 960 was shit compared to 970, if nvidia doesnt make it slow on purpose I will consider it but if 960 is to go by I don't have my hopes up.

My point is I do not believe this card will be that competitive.

man you are like what are you smoking? 4gb 199, still more memory that 970. If at stock it gives you equivalent performance of 980 with same amount of memory. How the heck is that not competitive? Competitive to what? 1080? There is no competition for that right now, you know you have choices right? pull the trigger on 1070 or 1080 and be happy.

So the term mainstream is annoying for several reasons, but the main one is because no one can define who that market is.
These cards are marketed at the guy or gal who walks into Best Buy or Fry's. These are rarely the most informed consumers just someone looking for a cheap card to buy the card that whens will be the one marketed the best and places like Best Buy favor NVIDIA. My main point is it is a mistake to start from the bottom it is a position of weakness because an enthusiast is not going to buy a re branded slightly cheaper 380x.

For the discussion here mainstream is simply referring to the price point of what the bulk of units sell at. Who buys these products can range from whom you're describing to the most technical that obsess about price/performance ratios. But I would agree that it's not this market that drives things. It's the higher end stuff. And that's where AMD has a lot of work to do with Vega and Zen. Bang for the buck is great but what can they do that's top end and commands top end money.

Are you serious?

Let's say someone games at 1080p, because there are a few out there.

If the reviews say it can max pretty much most games they want to play for $200. then they are uninformed?

The 970/980 aren't going to be competitors of the 480 for too long at any rate. The 1080 is a totally different market where few considering it where thinking about a 480 and vice versa.

I am not saying it is not competition I am saying i do not believe it will perform competitively in sales. Now I can be perfectly wrong, I am very okay with that, but I do not believe AMD has a good game plan to retake significant market share at any level of the market and this product feels like a last ditch effort. All conjecture on my part. This is an opinion, so treat it as such.

no point responding to him. He is mad AMD doesn't have high end out, thats the whole reason he is saying its not competitive. It's all good.

No, he means the guys won't even read reviews for cards they're looking to buy but will hear that greens have the fastest GPU on the market.

That's what "trickle down" means.

I believe that is where the 1060 will come in. I am not convinced that AMD has the marketing budget to compete with NVIDIA.

I agree. I think everthing on nvidia side is going to clearance mode. But If they put 980ti on clearance mode for $300. You better watch out, i am going to knock some people out to get it! lol

You don't compete with marketing budget, you mean R&D? We will find out.

The cycle will eventually catch up. AMD will have vega out and nvidia won't release their 1080ti anytime soon because they don't need to. Once Vega hits they will all have their full line up.

But AMD has so many options as well. This card only has 36CUs, they still can move up 40, 44 and so on.

I wouldn't be surprised if 490 comes out in a few months first with 44CUs thats the same amount of shaders as 390x.

Ok, that makes more sense... yes, only future will tell is the 480 will sell well. That I have no idea, but I think it will, but just like you, I am guessing.

why is my question going unanswered! its important  seriously, Is radeon lit up? would look badass

Geez, it is OK... I "Liked" your original post.

Not mad in the least I bought a 1080, so I already spent my money. Now I certainly would not have minded waiting to see what AMD had in store but that is not looking like it will happen till next year (unless all the October hype is real).

I almost bit on the 1080, but I game in either 4960x1600 or 4K, so I am waiting to see is a 1080Ti shows up ;-)

Actually yes you really do compete with marketing, just ask Apple.

I dont know whats coming in october.

All I see is a part with 2306 shaders. nothing with 40CUs or 44CUs. I don't know what their game plan is. They might just be scaling up to 14nm and refining it for better yields for higher end parts. Thats what they can't afford. Announce a part and not be able to deliver stock. that would murder their market share.

You have to have a product to compete. you are making me shake my head bro. Seriously. You can't market a product you don't have.

I think you mean research and development budget. That is where the hard work is done and that is what how you can bring a product to market faster.

No I'm saying exactly what I mean. I don't believe AMD has a marketing budget to compete against Nvidia especially when Nvidia starts launching its lower end cards, and considering that if Nvidia launches close to the same price point you'd end up with a price war on the low end with no AMD card in the high end to make up for it. I don't see how that is hard to understand.

When it comes to GPUs and CPUs, basically PC enthusiast stuff, I guess I never think of marketing. You never see GPU marketing at a Best Buy, just a few maybe on a back shelf. I don't really think that traditional marketing with PC enthusiast stuff. Does it fit the budget and performance expectations? What are 3rd parties saying, review sites like this, social media, etc. I don't think big marketing budgets matter too much for products like these.

Amazon reviews are showing all these people claiming its a card created directly from god! Must buy!

If you mean brand recognition? Then yea nvidia is a better brand for GPUs at the moment then AMD. Sort of like an Apple of GPUs. After AMD failed with bulldozer design they lost that brand recognition and it started creeping in to the GPU unit. We saw less and less and less improvements year over year. But I will hand it to the GPU group though they found a way to stay pretty close to nvidia cards despite not having the same budget and brand name.

I think that is why you see RTG as different group now. I think if they can deliver vega and surprise us in October It will only help. I have no doubt Kaduri is working his rear end off. I really want to see where he takes RTG in next few years. I really don't think he cares about what AMD does he wants to run his own show.

I agree Brand wise when ti comes to graphics it is nvidia not amd. Hopefully they can give some rebirth to Radeon brand after this release.

why do we need rumurs now? we can wait less then a day and get much more acurate info

click more reviews lol. There is the other side too, giving it 1 star and shit, and posting furmark stuff. I have to admit that if you didn't buy the card you should have no business reviewing it on a website, it just stupid. A review should be based on your purchase and personal experience.

That's why the only reviews I ever read are the ones that indicate that the reviewer was a verified purchaser of the item.

what? are you saying you dont care about my preformance and value comments as a proud fanboy?

soooo, I see the 8gb models on NE.... where are the 4 and when do people expect sales to go live?

there was a 4gb model listed on newegg by sapphire last week. I saw it myself. Sometimes the newegg mobile app shows more models and will show the price crossed out for now where the website didn't show the price at all.

But I guess now it is showing the price on some of them. 239.99 not bad for now. I bet if they are selling shit load they will raise it another 10 or so.

But what are we going to do all night while we wait for the first review to be posted early? Talk about home life? :)

The 480 itself goes on-sale at 6 AM PST if I'm remembering correctly. Some people will screw up and post their reviews at midnight anyway.

anyone have a estement of when non ref binned cards wll come out

With Primitive Discard enabled in Radeon GPUs, the Polaris 10 GPU can get up to 3.5x increase in geometry processing such as tessellation.

In other news, expect Nvidia to instruct its TWIMTBP devs to immediately drop all tessellation from future games.

Too late for sale going on at 6am. Amazon decided to unload their stock of xfx rx 480s already.

I think AMD is so fuckin stupid. They have created so much hype but they don't want people buying their cards the day before from etailers. That is the stupidest move ever. Let those crazy people buy the card not like they will have the card until the next day and they are going to keep it no matter what lol.

Amazon sold bunch of xfx models already when I checked it said only 16 more left and by the time I click add to card they were all sold out lol.

mid july. Powercolor is announcing devil 13 card on the 11th. I don't think its dual gpu card but you never know. Reports are second week of july. So soon.
