Does Win XP and 7 have MS-made programs that you can use to:

Use computer A to see computer B's screen?

I thought Remote Desktop but the help file for it states that it locks computer B's screen while the session is active. Computer B shouldn't know anything is going on. I have admin rights on both machines.

If not, is there an alternative you would recommend other than VNC? It seems terribly inefficient, I'm really hoping MS has something they made themselves that works well

There is no built in component that will allow you to do this, becase of this requirement.

So what can I use? In high school we had an XP network and the admin in the lab could watch other comps without the students knowing, for example

We had the same thing. Called vision or something. There was still an icon in the notification bar though.

We use Dameware Mini-Remote or something like that, dont remember what it costs, but it works.

I don't know of anything made by microsoft that will allow you to remote control a users session without them knowing.

the built in Remote assist for windows can do this but required a work around for XP..

the remote assist for vista/win7 was changed so not sure if this can still be done

do a Google search for Remote Assist no Prompt

Its completely undetectable. Virus software doesn't pick it up, Malwarebytes doesn't pick it up. Its just plain the nastiest damn thing you will get for monitoring.

Got a few customers that use it. It records everything. Period
