MIT Says Algorithm Can Predict Red Light Runners

No disrespect to our big-brained friends at MIT but who needs an algorithm to predict this? We all know exactly when another car is going to run a red light a smack into you...exactly one day after your insurance lapses. :p

In a paper that will appear in the journal IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Jonathan How, professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT, and three of his colleagues say they have come up with an algorithm that can predict whether an oncoming car is about to run a red light one or two seconds before a possible collision.
 
Guys driving camaros. Just arrest them all! (and check the trunks!) Oh and GTRs. But not porsches, unless the lights take 30 seconds to change they aren't going to cross the line in time. Unlike electric cars. Might have to arrest all of them too. But mainly just those camaro users, especially red ones (it's the devils color! :eek:).
 
I can predict a red light runner as well, without the aid of an algorithm, I call it, if the guy doesn't slow for the amber, he's going to run the light.
 
A huge concrete wall instantly pops out, stopping the red light runner in his tracks, saving whoever was legally crossing(or walking).
 
The complex algorithm can quickly compute -- down to milliseconds -- the likelihood of a vehicle running a red light based on its rate of deceleration as it is approaching the intersection.
So basically its a fancy math program that sees that people aren't slowing down... oooooh really ok the big brains at MIT to figure this one out!
 
Now they are just a few short years away from an algorithm that lets them now if a girl is flirting with them.
 
You forgot to define the boolean "girl has your junk in her mouth"

But I suppose we can assume it's a 0. This is MIT afterall.
 
Damn if that's flirting, what do you consider a girl being "into" you....on second thought, don't answer that.
 
It fails to consider something important, the speed of information technology nowadays. When I drive, I'm constantly alerted of red light cameras. I don't slow down for yellow lights if I know I'm safe from a ticket in the mail.
 
All these revenue generators.

Heres a very simple solution.

Paint a yellow dash (or whatever) across the road 50 feet or 60 feet or whatever the amount need be. If your back wheels are past that line when the light turns yellow and you are going the speed limit your back wheels will make it through the intersection before it turns red. And maybe install a second line a little closer that represents 10 MPH under the speed limit, incase its a little congested.

This way it doesn't matter what kind of car your in. And you don't have to guess. And its a simple permanent device that requires very little upkeep.

But again, thats a solution to the problem and doesn't generate revenue, which hurts the government. Only a terrorist would think its a good idea to hurt the government.....your not a terrorist are you????
