Yeah I think the issue is that the server basically needs like daily downtime during which the server is restarted, or maybe even every 12 hours or so.

I would say every 12 hours, for good measure. Like at 3AM and maybe 3PM or something like this.

On a lighter note, I have a couple pictures to upload and post on the hashland forum. Maybe I'll do that tonight!

I'm surprised there aren't two chickens, two pigs, two cows, two creepers, etc...being loaded into it.

Beta 1.2 is live.

Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2.

New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!

Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

Let's hope it doesn't bring down the server :(

On a side note, i wonder what affects the size/performance of a map more... the 2d area it covers, horizontally (and incorporating what is beneath it), or the surface area generated. In other words, if you have a smaller map whose surface is crazy and undulating and pock-marked, will it perform better or worse than one that is larger over all...?

Well, we don't have infinite blocks like we do in creative.

But I am envisioning a neon green/fuchsia tower lined with gold and diamond blocks in an alternating pattern! :p

It'll be perfect for interiors and sculptures, at least.

My point exactly! I am envisioning that being no where near my floating island. Not even on the horizon. If it is, I'm blowing it up. Fair warning. ;)

But I agree. That will be helpful for interiors and sculptures. Though it will get really annoying seeing a bunch of picture walls pop up everywhere too. If I had my own server I would ban them. Lol.

To be perfectly honest, yes and no. Ever since Beta came out with so many new bugs, it ruined a pile of mods and plugins. The problem is also the switch from HMod to Bukkit(man I really hate that stupid name).

Plugins + HMod = Brutal performance. This is well known by everyone, and its a major contributor to HashLand's lag, since I have 10 plugins enabled and running. Bukkit is supposed to help improve performance and should allow better performance with multiple plugins as well.

The Server Reboot plugins works on .BAT file scripts.. The server is on Linux and doesn't use .bat files.. Yet I am sure it can be done for Linux .sh files.. I haven't bothered with any new plugins as I knew they would be just fall apart again once I switch from HMod to Bukkit and when the next update comes out.

HashLand has some major updates to begin tonight. I'm going to see if I should switch server mods now or wait. I also have to make sure the plugins I need are updated. Plugins like Worldguard for instance I need before our world is able to come back, otherwise shit will burn down, and fire will spread.

I am still at work. I am very busy this week as my entire family and I are gone to Florida in a week and we are trying to get our loose ends tied up, the hired hands trained on what to do for chores everyday, etc..

I will be starting the update process tonight, with no guarantee's it will be back up right after. Especially if I am moving to Bukkit from HMod too. I haven't figured out yet if Notch is still going to keep forcing client updates every time there is an update.. anyone know?

Otherwise.. Music blocks? :eek: That will surely excite my OCD... Paintings work! omfg it has only been months waiting for that.. If you ask me, this update sounds more on the ball with what the players want versus what Notch wants, and that is a positive. I wonder how bad the bugs are though.. I'm afraid to even begin to find out what problems this update has brought with it.. :p

For Minecraft, if you want to, you will be able to play the latest unstable nightly build. If you choose to, it will be installed parallel to the normal game, and it will be VERY buggy. But you’ll also get access to the absolutely latest version of the game, way before we do any releases.

It sounds like he might start allowing a choice on whether or not to update. At the very least, modders will have time before the update hits clients.
 
My kids bug me every day to mod our home server running minecraft with all the cool things they see on youtube. Forget that, I don't have time to hack/modify it all the time to keep it running with dozens of broken mods every update. :p

I went into... single player... gulp!

i really really wanna make the battlestar galactica orbiting in the sky

i guess magic carpet would come in handy for that. just not sure what material to use :-/

and i suck at planning out stuff, as a fucking battlestar HAS to be huge and epic.


edit: nvm that plan. looks too be WAYY to in depth for what i want to build :(

My MP server is lagging like crazy as well. Like jumping backwards in time. Almost un-playable.
