Minecraft

i cant believe how Pirate cove turned. Its started from a little project of mine , to a HUGE community project. Everybody is building at least 1 building there. The boardwalk i almost all constructed.

so a basic minecraft server with monsters...is there anyway to make it work better or is it always kind of crummy with the monster on? Like the monsters hit you from miles away and through objects (like walls)
 
I don't think I ever had that problem... of course I haven't trned the monsters on yet either...

without monsters on, my server is great, with them on, it still runs well just the monster hit location/detection or whatever is way off. Its actually to dangerous to have on as you have a very hard time fighting back.
 
I actually ragequit last night due to 'invisible sniper skeletons'.

I don't know WTF is going on there, but it's really goddamn aggravating.

So far, new inventory bug has been found, but other then that I haven't heard anything horribly bad.
 
anyone else finding the beta to be REALLY slow?

My wife's machine (X2 4000 or 3800) 2gb ram, 9600GT) is slow as molasses on low settings now. Alpha was fine with Fancy and Normal fog.

I was in and then my game black screened, which happens about every 15mins except when I am standing still.

Oh, and beta has been updated:

My laptop has intel integrated graphics, and around most any SUPER large structure (like Zigbies underground lair) and moderate amounts of lava, my computer comes grinding to a halt.

Though the rest of my laptops specs don't help the matter.

Server will be down and won't be back up until a stable version of Beta is released. Right now, no mods would be running, no plugins, and with the added lag, and bugs that Beta has just added. People might have inventory losses, bugs and whatever..

My glass half full estimate of this Beta patch was well off.. I should have maintained my characteristic Skepticism.. The game is unplayable at the moment in my opinion.. SMP especially.. Notch also released this at the end of the day in Sweden.. So he is off to hump his body pillow for the next 8 - 10 hours while we wait until he works on it again tomorrow.

Welcome to Beta.. Hope to see you all again in a few days.. You can thank Notch and his unreasonable forced client updates.

HashLand is down until who knows when... I will keep in touch.
 
At least leaf decay seems to work pretty darn well. :)

And is causing massive grief.. People who have built things out of leaf blocks nowhere near log or tree blocks are watching their creation slowly fall apart.. Forest biomes are entirely unplayable and lag severely, especially in areas with log mining and leaf block tops remaining..

Not to mention a fucking useless update to throw eggs? What for? I know there has been no use for Eggs until now, but so what? Could he not focus on the severe bugs and issues FIRST? Now there is even more lag due to eggs spawning chickens. He even added the splatter textures and animation to the egg throwing... Omfg, how much time was wasted on that silly juvenile perk while the horrid bugs and severely broken elements were left to sit?

LeafDropper plugin worked slick.. ZERO lag, configurable drops... Took some dude in his spare time to create, and worked flawlessly.. Beta comes around, and Notch takes a stab at turning back on leaf decay and fails hard.. I don't get it.. Mojang needs internal testing, without it, this game will never go anywhere.. It will die in a mess of java code errors, until it turns into an Internet meme of some rich Swedish man disappointing a massive community of supporters, without proper testing.

I am about to take a break from the children posting in the forums and go play single player.. I'm looking forward to more lag and bugs while throwing eggs around like some born and raised brain damaged perpetual adolescent. :)

My family always said I should write a Soap-Box editorial for newspapers and websites.. They find my rants hilarious, while I am genuinely irritated.. lol I think when I get pissy, my mind starts spitting Cynicism and bitter self-medicating wit.. It is a coping mechanism.. :D

How compatible is the world between smp and ssp? If you have access to smp files can you easily put them in your ssp directory and play on that world?

Basically, if a leaf is not connected to some sort of supporting structure (not other leaf chunks) w/in 7 chunks, it will disappear after a few seconds, working from the outside in.

On a side note, single player performance went in the pooper...

Looks like the game is on track to sell 1 million by the end of the year.
It's currently selling 21k per day, and it only needs 13k per day to get to 1m
 
You know, I'm almost *ALMOST* glad the beta screwed things up. I have so much to do today, I can't afford to go build things. Of course, on my lunch break i'm going to try single player. lol

It has been.. You now drop your pick with damage, you pick it up with damage. One major bug fix from the server side inventory.

HashLand is up running nothing.. Vanilla server with a different world.. Come log in and do whatever until I take it down again to work on it..

Better than nothing.. harsaphes and I and getting owned by creepers

Something is probably a bit beta buggy, though I wouldn't expect much tbh, as more stuff gets added the code gets slower and slower, that's just Java for you, bloated piece of junk.

As far as I've seen, they're pretty much interchangable. The only issue I ever had was with chest contents; Moving from SP to MP makes all the contents invisible, but if you break the chests open everything spills out and you can re-fill them and then they work fine.
 
The funny part about that is the newest version of iconomy doesn't come with the shop lol they are rebuilding the plugin from scratch again.
 
so beta is completely unplayable for me :( looks like I won't be able to finish the pirate cove lighthouse :( :( :(
