Minecraft

Hashland is down 6:00am CST

Waiting for new update from Notch, apparently another one is on its way real soon, which will again break every mod and half the plugins again... :p

I will have the server back up when the new update is out, and hey0 has a working server mod for the new update.. Until then, Hashland is down, sorry =/

Hardcraft is up and running for your blocky pleasure!!!

SulSeeker! What HMOD you running? They just released .130 and apparently works much better and combined with WorldGuard, you can turn OFF creeper explosions.. They can still hurt you and chase you, but when they explode, nothing happens! =)

I'm installing .130 HMOD build now.

Some interesting changes to the multiplayer game there.

This morning I updated my server to see what it was like. Checking out my underground railroad system, prepping the switches to route my cart from my castle train depot to the depot the next island over. Suddenly I see a blur of white across my screen and notice a cart is coming to me from the next depot over. What the heck? I was the only one logged into the server, why are the carts active? Wait that’s a …. <Flash of red blood, I fall over dead>

A skeleton had hopped in a cart at the next island over, somehow got the cart moving – rode it across the sea into my underground lair, parked the cart next to the one I was going to take out – and then shot me.
I forgot how much fun it is to have monsters – I’m guessing one of the updates in the last week or two since I played turned them back on (I had had them turned off).

Another fun one was when I was returning the cart the skeleton “borrowed” from the station I passed by a lurker while in my undersea tunnel. Made it past him but was dismayed to see him blow the tunnel and flood the underwater tunnels.

Just amusing enough for me to not be too angry with them.

Hashland.dyndns.org is up!

Running Hey0 build 130 and Newest Update! ( Released an hour or so ago..)

I have fall damage off, damage on, PVP is on! All death sounds and animations are working now with this hey0 build!!

BEST NEWS!

Creepers are NERFED! They spawn, chase you, hurt you from running into you, drop gunpowder when killed, however when they explode, they DO NOT ruin ANY terrain! =)

Rejoice!

Come Hunt, kill and be safe from destructive blasts from the creepers! =)

Edit: Looking into adding the mod that adds more mobs to the game.. Once working, Lions, Bears, Wolves will be added.. Attack on sight depending on difficulty settings..
Polar Bears also, and they drop fish! Also, Wraiths that drop gunpowder and redstone, only spawn if difficulty is set Normal - Hard.

The Creeper nerf is excellent.. You can still kill them for their gunpowder, but if they get close they blow up, hurting you, other mobs, but NO blocks are destroyed =) Hashland is perfect for going on night monster killing sprees :)

that is awesome!! go skeleton!!

I haven't used dynamite in a couple of patches. Tonight it seemed more... potent.

(and creepers maybe a tad bit less)

So I've been following a mod called Mo'Creatures, which adds, not modifies existing, new mobs and monsters to the game. So far it adds Lions, bears, wolves, polar bears, and flying Wraiths!

Edit: Still not sure if this works in SMP lol.. To me it doesn't look like it.. :p I will check for sure
Edit: yah for single player only.. I dunno how I missed this.. But it does work for single player, if anyone is interested in checking it out!

:D

Ojax , tnt do not work anymore in Hashland

Yah well.. Someone brought to my attention a INVEdit mod that works on SMP servers... So to hell with only certain people having the /give or /item command, because with this mod, anyone can spawn items, faster and more efficiently than using /give...

WorldGuard item blacklist, hey0 mod item blacklists, they don't work.. This mod cannot be stopped.. Only thing that stops it, is Whitelist, or no build permissions.. However.. That doesn't stop someone with no build permission from spawning items into their inventory, and then dropping these items for people who DO have access...

So basically, anyone with build access on my server, can login, use this mod, and spawn anything they want, anywhere, doesn't matter.. They could ruin everything spamming bedrock blocks, or water blocks, or lava.... Do I have to turn off item access to EVERY ITEM but dirt and stone so people don't abuse this?

The mod creator knows its works in SMP, and doesn't care, in fact, IMO, designed this to hack SMP.. He has mentioned under his breath once about adding server control, but it hasn't happened yet, and probably won't..

I realize that this game is riddled with hacks, and nobody can stop them... Can I trust the few people I have builders access to on my server to not use this? No.. They will, I know they will. Even better for them, my server log doesn't display the message, "SO and SO gave themselves some ITEM ID", so I will have no idea when people are using this mod..

So I turned off TNT.. If anything, I can at least stop people from spawning 400,000 TNT blocks and ruining the world.. for now anyways... =/

EDIT: And I have the Whitelist turned ON.. So if I haven't added you, you aren't connecting.. If you want build access, just PM here. I only have 2 - 3 people who log on regularly anyways, so I really don't care if new people can't connect freely.

To answer the question someone asked about running mods on their servers, yes, I am. I currently run Hey0 for server admin, WorldGuard for grief defense, Stargate which allows the use of the portals. I can create portal networks, personal portals with selectable destinations, and even always on, 2-way portals. This all works.

I'm also running iConomy which adds a currency to the game. I am still trying to set it all up, as there is a massive amount of commands and settings to change, including adding price values to every item in the game basically... I hope to use this so people can sell their dirt, and stone stacks for cash.. The cash then can be used for the essential and hard to get items, like Diamonds, Gold Ingots, Iron Ingots, Redstone, and Obsidian.. This mod then allows another option for access to these items, allowing for more build projects using these items, more for tools and crafted items once the tool drop fix is removed for good, and also, a community where people have to travel to sell and buy their stuff.. a Physical, static shop location is the plan... Although is what is taking me so long to setup.. Static locations combined with global selling, is seemingly tough to do so far...

I am also running MagicCarpet for mods so they can get around easier.. I've had requests for access to this command, and I will give you access for builds high up or without a base or bottom... However, I have fall damage OFF on my server, so if people do fall, they just have to run back.. I built everything I created on Hardcraft without the use of any magic carpet, so there isn't a need for everyone to have it.

Lastly, I have MoveCraft installed.. My favorite mod so far. Only I have access to it for now to set it up.. But basically, I can create my own structures and then, combined with a /boat, /ship, /airship, /UFO I can turn what I made into a movable craft. I've build the HashBarge on my server and since my world has so much water, I can take my ship all over the place by left clicking.. Each left click moves the ship one block space in the direction I am clicking.. Holding click will move it much quicker. The best use of this mod I've yet to utilize... Where anyone could build a structure, and then move it to where they want it to be.. Sounds like an awesome way to create towns, and cities quicker, and also building the structure requires very little setup, since landscaping and block removal doesn't need to be done for the most part. Simply build a tower on water, and move through the water channels to where you want it to stay =)

All the mods take very little computer resources to load.. However Movecraft can lag the server since it has to generate and delete a structure in real time everytime the operator is clicking.. iConomy is all ran through commands, and your /money and balance is all server side, so you don't have an ITEM slot in inventory for your money..

Like I keep blurting out to everyone, the command when you join the server, /help will always list the commands available to you. Go through them, as some even have options under them as well, commands.. Like /shop.

Minecarts work, Ive tested them.. I've built the Hashland Express Silver Line that heads north of where everyone has started building around spawn.. It goes through two load chunks, and you do not bug out.. Sometimes areas won't load, but travelling through that area isn't a problem.. I've already theorized a fix for scenery not loading, and will test it in the next few weeks. I'd love to see people building all along the MineCart track, as there is some nice real estate in visible view of the track! ;)

Basically, Hashland.dyndns.org is a small private server running a few mods and is for people here to have another server with different settings to play on. I am still planning on returning to Hardcraft to keep working on the Hash Lines cart station network, and I also plan on doing projects on my server as well.. Hashland is currently running 24/7 as long as patches, crashes, and updates don't bring it down. ;)

I find the lack of trust a little sad. We have never had any of the trouble with massive TNT spawns on the [H] server except a single time and the builders list fixed that.

Hash... dude! lets calm down , hashland is great right now , and the few people who can spawn stuff are trustable.... no?

I was just pointing the fact that tnt wasnt working. I was digging a way to your silverline (By the way the booster arent set right , they work , but not at their best right now.). And i tought if the tnt wasnt working , it was maybe because of the creepers that cant blow up.

I was just pointing something ... not blaming anyone.

hash, checked out the line cart station and it was awesome.

pretty close to my castle too.

sul, we need another picture to show off the land and progress!

so the game stores the land in 'chunks,' i wonder if it's possible to indicate the borders in the game and then assign rights to specific chunks to individuals?

THere is a middle earth server with rules like that. You need to find dedicated player to make it work.

New update:
* Added /kill command. Does 1000 points damage to the player
* Did some patching client side to prevent duplicated entities
* The join server page now remembers the port as well as the ip
* Fixed a bug where joining a server on a specific port caused the client to forget all keybindings
* Added lakes and rare lava pools, both on the surface and randomly in caves.
* Fixed a crash bug when destroying the vehicle from under a player
* Players connecting to a server or respawning are invulnerable for three seconds

Points 5 and 7 are good. :)

hey sul... how do you feel about linux?

Well to be honest, I'm not worried about TNT.. I am trying to setup an economy and eventually remove the ability to spawn items.. I want to play the game the way it is meant to be played, with mods added that ADD to that element, not make the game a Multiplayer Creative WIth Monsters and damage... I don't want every single person to be able to download an INEdit program and spawn anything they want to build with on my server..

Is it a little sad to want people to mine? Is it a little sad to want people to work for their diamond, and gold blocks? Is it really sad to want to limit the ability for everyone to just spawn and build leaving mining, defensive builds, PVE to be ignored? =/ Really ? =/

The builders list allows those people to build and destroy, thats awesome, there isn't a way, however to stop them from using a mod that spawns any item into their inventory, and WorldGuard Blacklist, Hey0 blacklists, do NOTHING to stop this... Is it really sad to want to setup the builders so they can build and mine but not be able to spawn items at their leisure?

This completely ruins my plan for a /shop and selling / buying feature.. As who is going to use a shop to sell and buy, when NOTHING is worth anything? It is all FREE if you can spawn it... Things you can't get even if you tried, like Bedrock, Grass blocks, and leaf blocks... This completely ruins my plans for slowly building the world, using the elements the world provides, with a little boost from a /shop, and forcing people to do something other than build..

I'm allowing some people to spawn items as the world is empty, and it is helping speed up the building of spawn, and the planned shops and marketplace, but as soon as we have a nice little city / town / area, I will be turning off the ability to spawn items.. I myself, the admin, will add myself to the same group as everyone else, and I too won't have the ability. I'm looking forward to using the /shop to sell crap stacks like dirt and cobble for cash and then using that cash to buy certain things to subsidize my materials for building with. I look forward to night time and monsters in caves.. Just as much as I enjoy building something new. I find a lot more satisfaction in building with 100% gathered resources. It is also what many people wanted when the S in SMP was included.. Kinda gotta survive ya know? I don't see how the ability to spawn any item and take no damage adds to the "Survival" aspect... Nothing is valuable when everything is free.

I'm just referring to the aspect that you think all of us would abuse a cheat in the system. I'm willing to bet the majority of us would not come close to using a cheat to spawn stuff. I can't speak for everyone obviously but you seem to think that 90% of us would be all aboard the cheat wagon.

Cheat? I don't consider spawning a cheat, but a privilege.. Even on Hardcraft, many people just get spawned items for some or most builds.. I just don't want that.. Or be able to control that.. What I am talking about isn't a cheat, but a mod listed on Minecraft forums, that is intended to make the /item spawn ability faster and easier, for those who have it. It just happens to work on SMP for anyone, regardless of permissions or blacklists. It also does not show up in the server log with the normal display NAME gave themselves some ITEMID.. It doesn't show up at all.. Whereas the command /item or /give when used does show who used it, and what they spawned for themselves or someone else. So someone could spawn items with this mod, and the server would not report it.

I don't see how wanting a server setup the way I want it to be setup is somehow implying I think you are all cheaters.. I don't mean to sound defensive, but I am concerned about the way my server is run, and how people play on it.. I think that is kinda a good thing when it comes to running a server. I hope to make it a fun place to be with the added economy, mods such as portals and boats and ships, and not just a Creative SMP Build server. =)

I 100% understand what you are saying. I understand exactly what you are trying to do with your server. The way you stated it earlier made it sound like everyone would abuse the system though.

Can I trust the few people I have builders access to on my server to not use this? No.. They will, I know they will.

I would consider using it to spawn stuff when you are not supposed to be spawning things, cheating.

Which is why I mentioned the fact the server doesn't report people spawning when they use this mod.. I can never tell if someone is using it.. If the server reported it, I would be aware, and check if that user has that permission.. Anyone could just play innocent, and I can't take any action.. I know trust is number one on SMP servers, and I trust the people I give builders access too.. I don't believe everyone would play the way I intended if they just wanted to build and knew about this mod however..

However, I would call it cheating too, but without the ability to know they are using the mod for sure, because the server doesn't report it, how am I to know anyone is cheating? :p

I don't mean to sound upset or angry at anyone, because I am not! I just want my server setup in a certain way, and this thread is a good way to let you all know what I am running, whats happening on the server, and conversation about mods, plugins and my concerns when running the server. :)

Edit: I have the economy setup though there are some bugs and price details that might need to be addressed.. You can go to HashMart and there you can /shop ? For the commands to buy and sell you items. Right now, stacks of dirt, cobble, and sand, the cheap crap, are 1 Nugs ( the currency ) per 1 dirt block.. So you can cash in 1 stack of dirt and cobble for 64 Nugs! =)

I also have a lottery setup! /lottery instantly takes 100 Nugs from your wallet and tells you if you won anything.. Go see what you can win! I put in some nice prizes you normally could never get ;)

I'm looking at this mod to perhaps install on Hashland server.. Its called Minecart Mania, and it mods track sections that act as boosters, brakes, stops, timed stops, pressure plates to switch tracks, automatic chest cart pickup and collection, and chest dispensers that completely allows for an automatic cart station with flicks of switches. Including flicking a switch to choose which destination you will go..

More info here...

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecart_Mania!

This would completely remove the inconsistency of the buggy boosters, as well as take up way less space and resources. It would also allow for much more configurable speeds and elevation changes, and even allow timed stops before being launched off again.. Options to remove empty carts after a certain amount of time, and the ability to stop and reverse directions at the same speed from one block. Boosters work in either direction as well.

Lemme know if anyone would like this on Hashland server, and I will install it.. As it looks, I might install it anyways as it sounds exactly what Minecraft needs :)

PvP or group PvE with defensive fortifications sound fun to me. Maybe add a timer so that you have to actually build blocks though. It takes a few seconds (depending on if you have a tool) to mine or dig up dirt, but placing it is instant... Might not be a popular change though :)

If it's a GUI implementation... I could prolly figure it out.

My Command-line-fu is severely lacking tho.

hey sul, I've been fiddling with linux + minecraft... easy as well... name something that's really easy...

just have a few things to figure out and we are good to go, btw the port you requested is open

I was on a server that tried it out and with the new patch it seems bugged and doesn't really work.

Also is anyone using any custom texture packs that work with 1.2.6( or whatever the newest version is)?

I think most texture packs work with v1.2.6. Doku's and Misa's both work, as does the HD fixer and AO.
