IMO... that is TOO high res for Minecraft.

There are a lot of other texture packs out there that look nice but not out of place.
 
I have to echo the sentiment against using high res texture packs. They don't look bad, they just look out of place. It's entirely intentional that the original textures are low res and "blocky" because everything in minecraft is blocky. That's probably part of the reason there's no texture filtering. If you're not fond of the original textures there are plenty of nice packs that keep the original minecraft feel. I'm a big fan of Painterly.

I feel almost exactly the same way. Packs that are 128x128 or higher usually look out of place. I don't like the default textures though...they're difficult to differentiate sometimes. Painterly looks very nice!
 
Just a warning about MCAdmin...apparently the developer (Doridian) is a freaking weirdo and has built a backdoor so he can remotely access your server anytime he wishes, and potentially run remote exploit code. He can ban you from your own server. Check out this link for more!

Good question! Notch said a while ago it would be a little before Haloween (which is Sunday) which I took to mean probably late Saturday night. And since he's a few time-zones ahead of me in EST, I'm hoping it's mid-evening Saturday here. But if it comes out today, that'd be awesome!

Need to go read around and see if there's any official word yet...

I been running around our MP map making sure everything is zombie-proofed - putting up doors everywhere and knocked down the temporary bridges over moat etc - also built a nice big mob-trap, which should get me a nice loot supply soon. Think I'm almost ready for the uprising now! :D
 
So far I've ridden the water slide, went camping in the forest, didn't care for it so I got a room at the inn.

So many sites to see so little time...

You need to talk to SulSeeker. He can make you a builder so you can actually...build. We had some trouble with people sabotaging things so it had to be restricted a bit.

I have a 5850. It ocassionally stutters if there are several bouncing slimes on the screen at once. I'm thinking about upgrading to 2x 6990s and going for eyefinity with a massive FOV so that the creepers cant sneek up on me anymore. ;)

The 5870, one of them will let you use three monitors for Eyefinity Minecraft :p
 
For such a simple game it is a bit more demanding than you would expect when you crank up rendering distance.

lol tell me about it.

I really wanted to get it running on my old laptop but the old girl just can't handle it (1.6ghz AMD, SiS GPU). Even with eyecandy (lol) turned off and the view distance set to tiny, it chugs along at 5 fps
