Microsoft is releasing a new Xbox One Wireless Controller Adapter next week that is 66% smaller than the original: I have mine connected to a PC tower, so the size never did bother me, but those who game on a laptop should prefer the diminutive footprint of the new one. It’s capable of connecting up to eight controllers at once.

The new and improved Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 enhances your controller connection when gaming on Windows 10 PCs and tablets. It’s 66 percent smaller than the original Xbox Wireless Adapter for a smaller form factor and to fit better next to other USB devices you may have plugged in nearby. The Adapter offers wireless stereo sound support and the ability to connect up to eight controllers at once. The new Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 will be available in select markets for $24.99 USD starting in August. You can also choose to get the adapter bundled with the Xbox Wireless Controller for $79.99 USD.

What's the deal with its Windows 7 support? How come they aren't mentioning it this time?

Cool. I'm surprised people just don't buy a Blue tooth controller Xbox One controller though.

And why did this take so long?

this.

there was no reason for it to be that big in the first place.

imho it's still entirely too big.

look at the dongles we have now for wireless anything literally a third of the size of a usb connector.

That's exactly what I did.

Was a pain to set up, because out of the box, the controller needed a firmware update (which is not mentioned anywhere in the package or what do you need to download and from where) and this then allowed me to use the controller.

*Here is the instructions for this*

Doesn’t support all the features and why would I buy a new controller for $50-60?

I always did wonder why the thing was so goddamn big. It's wide, too, which is the most inexcusable thing about it as it can block other ports.

$25 just for the receiver? Pretty sure I paid $30 for a controller and the receiver (the xbox 360 for pc bundle with the old, big dongle but hey it works fine)

This is for the Xbox one controller.

Bluetooth does not support any attachments, such as headsets, chatpads, or the Xbox Stereo Adapter

The other limitation with Bluetooth is that Microsoft recommends only 1 XB1 controller connected via Bluetooth at a time, while with the adapter you can do 4 controllers on Win7/8.1, and 8 controller on Win10 (if I am reading the info in that link above correctly), if you're not using any of the other peripherals at the same time. 8 is kinda overkill, but my homeys and I often use 2-4 controllers for local multiplayer gaming on PC. Much easier to deal with when there aren't 4 USB cables dangling from a computer across the room. Still, I wonder if you could still hook up multiple controllers via Bluetooth to one PC. Are there performance/reliability issues with that? Oh I just read this in the link: "Connecting more than 1 controller to your device with Bluetooth may be possible, but performance can vary depending on your PC." Also I see that the Bluetooth connection for XB1 controllers and peripherals is NOT supported on Win7/8.1, so that leaves some of us out.

Gawd damn, they are still charging fucking $25 for the wireless adapter? Fuck all dat. I have one, but only cuz I got it for free from a friend who had an extra one. This newer smaller adapter should also be fucking cheaper. I'm sure manufacturing costs had to have come down a bit since they first introduced the XB1 wireless adapter. The X360 wireless adapter I paid like 10 or 15 bucks for, many years ago.

Does anyone else who uses the current XB1 wireless adapter notice that it gets pretty dang hot when you use it? At least mine does. I didn't measure the actual temp, but to the touch I was like "shiat this thing is warm as all fuck." Like, warmer than I ever would have expected for a device of this type. Most of the time when I'm in my own house, sitting right next to my desktop, I just use a wired connection. Azphira I like where you hid your adapter, that's some slick shit right there. Still got easy access to the sync button too, looks like.

I thought about buying a Bluetooth version of the XB1 controller, but I already have 2 controllers, don't feel like purchasing a new one just for Bluetooth functionality, especially with the limitations.

I just wish there was some kind of low battery warning. Your controller has disconnected isn't exactly a warning.

Doesn't the home button on the controller blink when its low?

Sorry for late response. Yes it does, I never notice, I only notice the controller shutting off. The Xbox One has a pop up notification, I just figured it would do the same.
