Microsoft wants to make sure they get the patent on gesture based gaming. There are lots of images posted with the patent application as well, too many to post here. You can see the complete patent application here.

Systems, methods and computer readable media are disclosed for gesture keyboarding. A user makes a gesture by either making a pose or moving in a pre-defined way that is captured by a depth camera. The depth information provided by the depth camera is parsed to determine at least that part of the user that is making the gesture. When parsed, the character or action signified by this gesture is identified.

I know MS isnt the first company to do this... and I now MS is not known for its inventiveness, but this is the first product that acutally has me compelled to go buy a new console. And thats saying something considering Im still using my old origional playstation 2. lol

Hopefully it works as advertised, anybody here actually tried this thing?
 
I think it's kind of funny that PS and XB are trying to copy a key element to wii, yet wii is not necessarily successful. Sure, it has sold a lot of systems, but I don't know many people who own a wii who KEEP buying games for it. Point in case is I think the controller system has really held back the enjoyment of the system.

Considering that, PS and XB are trying to copy a "broken" system in a sense. They seem to be jealous of the units sold and they want their cut.

I don't mind the idea of interactive media in physical forms, but most of my gaming I'm not interested in doing as a constant work out. Maybe if I'm trying to get myself fit to say join the police force or something. I dunno, tough thoughts because maybe I and others should actually engage in this.

I don't know what rock you have been under, but everyone has been eating up this fitness shit. My parents have a Wii. They haven't had any children around in 20 years. My Grandma has one too. My Mother was just saying how her and my Grandmother went on a hunt in the D for some Wii fitness thing that they couldn't find anywhere in Taylor. I think it's safe to say that Nintendo carved themselves a niche here and are taking it to the bank daily.

I don't own a Wii simply because I haven't had any urge to swing my arms about wildly unless I'm drunk, and I only drink socially. Besides I would just find a way to cheat like when I Wii bowl. Everyone else stands up and bowls. I have perfected a leisure strike system that always gets plenty of laughs.
 
How will this patent affect Nintendo as you may go through some of the exact same motions, as what they are trying to patent, while playing some of the games.

Different methodologies. Camera (Kinect/Move) vs IR remote/receiver to track motion.
