Interesting. 2020 was just getting started and the planes/modules were just starting to come out. If this is an entirely new game a lot of people will probably not migrate. Lots of WIP planes still in the works for 2020. While I am sure 2020 will still be good for years to come, it would be disappointing if new features and technologies are not made available to 2020.
Good point. If the engine was updated to be thoroughly multithreaded it would be worth the purchase. 2020 got better over time, but it was still highly reliant on single threaded performance as most simulations are.At first I had the first a bit strange to not keep up with Flight Sim 2020, but was it not a bit of single thread for the render loop DX 11 title at heart ? That challenge pretty solid hardware
Which would mean that it was based on very old stuff, DX12 being nearly 8 years old by now, that could have limited them on what they were trying to do, while a lot of the world bing data-engine side of things that is excellent would not have to change.
Seeing as even a dinosaur like DCS is finally multithreaded (in beta, granted), it'd be disappointing if MSFS 2024 didn't improve in that regard.Good point. I heard that the game will be using the Forza Horizon engine, so there is hope for it being multithreaded.Good point. Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 have improved loading times?
One of the biggest priorities for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is to improve the simulator’s data management. One of the major changes to the simulator’s architecture being made is using Cloud streaming to help ensure that the client becomes thin. When users load into the sim, only the textures, meshes, and map data that they need will be downloaded to avoid unnecessary bandwidth and disk space usage
I would think so too. In minecraft, I use a chunk pre-generator to build the chunks first so when I play the machine doens't have to build them and load them. They are just there.Well, that will make loading times as I define them worse.
I rather cache everything in advance.
Unless, like in MSFS2020, the downloader uses 3D and keeps the graphics card at high power while you are not even playing...
I'm confused. How does streaming data from the internet improves loading times over having it locally? Unless by streaming they don't mean textures and geometry, but the game will run on the cloud and you're just streaming it?One of the biggest priorities for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is to improve the simulator’s data management. From my understanding, Flight Simulator 2020 from the get go used asset streaming, the total games was like 2 petabytes for the whole planet:I'm confused. The goal being one day to have pretty much 1:1 of most of the world, which would not fit on an XboxS, it is a bit bizarelly writing but I think the previous one could go to 1GB of data usage per hour of play despite a good sized 150gig local install ? Maybe this is about reducing both with better streaming ?
It’s impossible to un-read that.I watched both videos and I am moist.
You make it sound so dirty.. I like where this is going.. tell me more. It’s impossible to un-read that.

Cool! Yes it looks like the "gaming" part will be expanded to include more than just flying. Rescue people and so on. Maybe go from control tower and embark your plane?Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorge Neumann talks about the tech behind MSFS 2020, and some astonishing-sounding features coming in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
in MSFS 2024, you're no longer limited to experiencing the Earth's "digital twin" from the skies alone: "You can now exit the plane, walk around, in 2024. You can literally walk your favorite mountain path to your favorite hut in the mountains. Sit on the lake. See the sunset. It is truly a digital twin you can absorb"...

Could be driven by the need to be able to run on a SeriesS, ram aside the recommand specs seem quite ~XboxX ballpark (from harddrive space, too gpu and cpu power) and the minimum a bit Series S type of ballparkThose are obviously pulled out of thin air. But it is good to know that they still target systems that old.
Seem to have been made to not break add-onsThe addon situation needs to be fairly seamless. Otherwise it will cost developers a lot to update, which likely means update fees or addons that won't get ported over to the new game. Considering the long development time of addons and their cost I don't think a new release every 4 years is a good idea. IMO something like DCS, where the basic platform is free, and they monetize it through quality in house addons (as well as the 3rd party) would be better.
When asked why there isn't even an option to install all the map data locally: "There's just too much data to install locally, you'd need a lot of expensive drives to store it" Microsoft says to a community of die-hard fans who spend upwards of 100K on Flight sim setups.
It was a made up quote, parody. That statement would be more impressive if it contained one of those "number" things.
