Didn't get to fly yet.

I see reports of people who managed to download and log in and fly to end up with half-rendered airplanes.

As the things smooths out...

If you get a DLC airplane in 2020, say a Spitfire, does it transfer over to 2024?

That depends on the airplane vendor. Most say it will. Some vendors reported minor bugs.

But none of that is working right now, even if you manage to log into the game.

I'm downloading now. Nice to see that the standard edition is included with game pass.

edit - "too many users are trying to connect at the same time"

Fail.

Leave it to Microsoft to blow a major release day event... The Steam reviews are pretty entertaining. Basically tons of free negative press right now, which should ensure a nice sale price soon. Almost comical how badly they launched this. Think I'll hold off for a few months for them to get their act together.

so much for this heavily hyped feature...

Will Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 have improved loading times?

One of the biggest priorities for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is to improve the simulator’s data management. One of the major changes to the simulator’s architecture being made is using Cloud streaming to help ensure that the client becomes thin. When users load into the sim, only the textures, meshes, and map data that they need will be downloaded to avoid unnecessary bandwidth and disk space usage

Which is hilarious because 2020 still took less than a minute to load on my PC. Now you are at the complete mercy of the CDN.

Asobo says they completely underestimated excitement for the game. CEO Sebastian Wloch says they simulated up to 200,000 concurrent players to test network load for release day and the number of users across PC and console blew past that.

Uh huh, you'd think they would have learned from the 2020 version. Oh, and they put more of it as online only, streaming data. Typical game devs/pubs, underestimate then apologize and ramp up server availability. On top of it being MS, not known for stability on major releases on their platforms. See Gears5 launch issues just off the top of my head.

The fact that you can't really own the base game just annoys me. MS rarely puts 2020 on sale to make it worth it.

That doesn't explain what that stupid additional login is for.

I can understand that download servers were miscalculated (although they should have allowed preload), but I'm already logged into MSN. What do they want? And why is the login server not right-sized, that is a lot easier than getting bigger pipes for download.

they should have just added these things to FS 2020 instead of developing an all-new game

I'm waiting for some benchmarks to find out how many threads it will utilize and associated performance of different cpus.

For example, a 5950x with all those threads still compares quite well to even the newest zen5 on all core workloads, right? But single thread, it isn't what it once was.

If it is using multiple threads, what is the impact of extra cache?

Just a lot of questions I have about what will it take to give a good experience.

Wondering the same. Odds are a 9800x3d will still outshine the 5950x in MSFS 2024 though, especially if on water and goosed a little. Looking forward to the 9950x3d next year, but I’m thinking most games won’t really be optimized to go much beyond the use of 8 cores.

I think the same regarding eight cores....but enquiring minds want to know.

Coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as part of the expansion is Isla Nublar, home of the original Jurassic Park and World theme parks, as well as the Cinco Muertes Archipelago, consisting of Isla Sorna, Isla Matanceros, Isla Muerta, Isla Tacaño, and Isla Pena. There are also two new Costa Rica locations coming in the form of Herradura Bay Marina and Juan Santamaría
International Airport.

By setting off from Costa Rica, pilots can explore the entire Cinco Muertes Archipelago, which will have six airstrips, twelve helipads, and more than ten dinosaur species to spot while you’re exploring. Confirmed so far are the Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, Stegosaurus, Mosasaurus, Gallimimus, Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Dimorphodon, and the Pteranodon.

As part of the expansion, there are new flying challenges, including providing guided tours and transporting VIPs, while players can also visit the facilities, theme parks, and different islands. Of course, you can also snap pictures of the dinosaurs.
