The graphics in this game absolutely astound me. I thought Uncharted had pushed the PS3 to its peak. I was wrong.

I can not wait to try this game out. I played through about an hour of MGS 1 and thats it. This is definitely the reason i plan to get a Ps3 after reading all of these reviews..

There are 5 series that reviewers seem to be required to give gushing reviews to, no matter what. And then, 3-4 months after release, to give an *actual* honest "look back" on the game and give it the review it should have had in the first place. (see: gushing 10/10 halo 3 review from eurogamer, 6/10 retrospective a few months later)

1. Mario platformer (non paper, non rpg, non sports spinoff)
2. Zelda
3. Halo
4. Metal Gear
5. GTA

True, but MGS, GTA, and Mario usually deserve the gushing reviews since they are the best in their respective genre by a significant margin. Halo on the other hand is universally accepted [by the people who have experience outside of Halo] as massively overhyped and not deserving of the scores it recieves. How Halo manages to score such high scores consistently is one of the most bizarre video game phenomenons out there.

MGS/GTA/Mario set the bar for how those kinds of games should be, so they deserve the high scores. Halo doesnt set the bar for shit and without the brand name it would get 8.5's.
