Guns of the Patriots is almost intimidating in the consistent quality of its ideas, invention, and execution...Even by the series' stratospheric standards, MGS4 is a remarkable high point.

Even Gamers that are bad at action games need to play it. MGS Online is included. Cant see a single flaw"

That IGN blurb just gave me an FFVII flashback. A "dazzling, heart-lifting, voyage of discovery"?

Anybody got any old christmas lights I can wrap around it or sumpthin.:p

Just pre-ordered mine..

just an FYI: if you search you-tube you can literally watch all the previous games to get the story all crammed back into your head before you hit up number 4.

I watched the gametrailers retrospectives. I don't think I could handle trying to watch the whole of the first games again.

I can't wait! I'm so pumped for this game I haven't left my PS3...in fact I'm typing from it right now! <3 the PS3 browser.

Yawn. I will look forward to the reviews in 2 months, and avoid the halo 3 and gta4 orgasmic reviews of gushing non-thought.

Wow wow dats rly pumped! You need to calm down and stop doing crazy things like browsing on your ps3 b4 you hurt yourself.

There are 5 series that reviewers seem to be required to give gushing reviews to, no matter what. And then, 3-4 months after release, to give an *actual* honest "look back" on the game and give it the review it should have had in the first place. (see: gushing 10/10 halo 3 review from eurogamer, 6/10 retrospective a few months later)

1. Mario platformer (non paper, non rpg, non sports spinoff)
2. Zelda
3. Halo
4. Metal Gear
5. GTA

I just thought it was strange because I'd have remembered it... mostly because it would have caused a fanboy shitstorm. :D

I must have been thinking of another site, i have eurogamer on the brain then since they're the only site to give mgs4 anything less than "omgperfect".

Don't get me wrong, before someone blows a gasket: MGS might deserve it, but the formula looks all too familiar so far.

I meant the reviewing formula for hyped up games, not the gameplay of metal gear.

I agree with you to some extent, GTA4 no way in hell was a 10, 8 or 8.5 maybe and don't even get me started on Halo3 everyone thought it was like the second coming of Jesus or sumpthin then CoD4 came along and proved how a FPS was supposed to be done.

But I don't know what it is about MGS it always seems to blow my mine when it's released on a new console like MGS when it came out on the PS, I was like amazed the whole time I played it.

^^^ Second everything you said there except the GTA part. Its an awesome game. Halo dose indeed suck COD4s dick.

Wow. Most of those reviews are talking about the game the way you would expect an outcast redhead to talk about his mom's new boyfriend around the fire at summer camp, in hushed, reverent tones of awe. And you and your friends would just look at each other, like, "Okay, something weird is definitely going on in that house," but you've got better things to think about so you just kind of forget the whole thing until high school and you find out his mom's boyfriend was molesting him and beating his mom the whole time. Except in this case, instead of Konami molesting the reviewers, they're just giving them money. And instead of beating their moms, they're just giving them money. AGAIN.

see, I think that's silly. Every review can't be bought. Herd mentality though needs no money to happen.

I tend to agree with Technoob on this one. I think MGS will be great, but I don't trust reviews on blockbuster games anymore. I thought Halo was fun, but it definitely wasn't anywhere near as good as the reviews would lead you to believe. Same goes for GTA4. Good game, but not the greatest game ever created. It just seems like reviewers tend to buy into the hype with the blockbuster games.

All that being said, I LOVE the MGS series so I am sure that this game will deliver.

Gamespot join EGM in holding off their review of the game:

It has also been widely reported that Konami blatantly asked the press not to mention two pieces of pertinent information in their reviews: how long the cutscenes are, and how long the installation process is. Publishers routinely ask reviewers not to publish certain story points because they are considered spoilers. That's fair, and we've never resisted requests of that nature. However, cutscene length and installation length are pertinent subjects within the context of a review, and speaking on a personal level, I believe it is flat-out wrong for any publisher to request that pertinent information be left out of a review. The journalist decides what information is most important for the review--not the developer or its publisher.

If you use Halo 2 you'd make your position a lot stronger. People got wrapped up in the Halo 2 hype, reviews were great, and down the road even Bungie says it's not the game they wanted it to be... and even though I liked the game, it wasn't as good as the first Halo. There's nothing wrong with Halo 3, except that another great first person shooter came out around the same time.

I just wonder how many of these reviews are because they were swept up in hype. Hopefully it's a good game though. I'm sure it is, and fans of the franchise will be more then happy with it.

Think about journalist position too.

You know you have hottest game of year in your hands with milions of fans waiting for release.

Will you really go against the flow and say that GTA IV sucks ?

I sure would. It can get more traffic to the web site and more advertising dollars if I wrote the only review that said GTA 4 is a big, fat piece of crap. People love conflict and drama. Not that I'm saying I would write something that's not my opinion, I personally enjoyed GTA 4. .

Well I didn't think GTA4 sucked but the driving physics were horrible and the game didn't look good at all to me and I know looks are not everything but it helps with the immersion aspect of it imo. But it had a great story and good gameplay elements but the rest of the package just wasn't there like reviewers stated it was, and that killed it for me.

Well Halo 3 was more or less Halo 2.5;)

Just to tell you the IGN US review and Gamespot reviews are up, they both gave it a 10. But wow, this game is incredible, especially once you get used to the controls.

It is a well deserved 10 from my point of view. After 8 hours of gameplay.
You really have to experience this in 1080 high def with 5.1 surround sound.
amazing
truely the best console game I have ever played.
(and I have no even got to the MP part yet)
