MGS 4 Trailer

Old man snake is pretty muscular.
Intriguing...

Don't confuse the design of the new sneaking suit with Snake's built. It's not THAT tight.

For people wondering why Snake is suddenly an old guy, it's not because MGS4 takes place 30 years after MGS2: it's because Solid, Liquid, and Solidus are all imperfect clones of a 50 year old Big Boss. Liquid states in MGS2 that the clones' bodies are deteriorating due to genetic imperfections (the reason why Liquid demanded Big Boss' remains in MGS1: to fix the flaws.) This is why Solidus looked like an old man, and it's why Solid now looks like one. The injection he takes in the trailer is probably some compound to keep him going for a little while longer. Also, don't forget that Solid still has the Foxdie retrovirus inside him, and that Naomi is in this game.

It'll be interesting to see if Solid survives this game.

Edit: I'm not saying MGS4 actually takes place 30 years after MGS2. In all likelihood, it's probably 5 years after MGS2, which is the same amount of time between MG2 (1999), MGS1 (2004), and MGS2 (2007 at the tanker, 2009 at Big Shell.)

forget what the captions said in the video, but is this really in gameplay footage? or is it like the intro movie or some pre rendered stuff.

if so.. it think it looks better than anything xbox 360 has shown off. i'm wondering if i should sell my xbox 360 for more money (demand) than to keep it. maybe i should way till the hype dies down and can really see more PS3 footage. too confusing!

It's all legitimate, in-game graphics. When you load MGS4 in your PS3, it will look that good.

The first minute or so pokes fun at the Killzone controversy.

From the way I understand it, it's all real engine stuff. There's never been an MGS trailer that's only/included CGI. The first few minutes do poke fun at the CGI controversy and from the cut-scenes in MGS2 and 3 then I really think this is in-game. If you feel compelled to sell your X360 then you can very easily find some poor soul to pay $800 for it on EBay

I dunno. I was a big fan of mgs 1. I beat 2 but didn't like it that much. And I can't seem to push my way thru 3...... Not really looking forward to 4. There is always so much talking that it makes me fall asleep.

Hmmm. MGS2 made me say WTF at the end, but MGS3 was awesome. I don't see how you could 'force' yourself through it.

many i hope the make a Zone of the Enders 3, that game would look so freakin badass on the PS3, hell if they announce it, i'm definitely getting a PS3

zoe 3... i havent even played zoe 2 because it was so freakin expensive at the time 50 bucks for 8 hours, zoe was freakin cool, main reason i borrowed it from a friend was to play mgs, but i still accidentally have it ho ho ho. zoe was a good game but really short. 5 hours really doesnt deserve a price tag of 50 bucks, but i guess ppl actually just shelled 50 back then to play just the demo itself and forgot about the game. But what am i saying zoe2 is probably 20 bucks now at bestbuy, i might check it out now

ZOE 2 was ten times better than the first IMHO, and it was at least twice as long, and that isn't including the bonus training missions which added several hours more of gameplay and that actual single player game had a good bit of replay value...one of the best PS2 games ever released IMHO :D

Oh my holy fucking God, I must have that game now, why is it that only consoles get the games like that....I remember playing the First MGS (Well the first on PS1) on PC and it was awesome.....I cant fuckin wait for this!!!!

mmmm pre-rendered videos.

yes I agree with the opinion that it is pre-rendered. I dont remember playing any snake games where my actual in game camera took that many angles on the action and looked directly in snakes face and gave me first person perspective from the enemy. I do remember lots of awesome cut scenes though....which this one looks to be.

It's obviously a cut scene, anyone who sais this is in-game is an idiot.

The game looks fun (I presume) though. I just hope they don't have those massive conviluted cutscenes the other games have. I like cutscenes but they were just rediculous.

Also, I don't know how playing as a 60 year old diabetic is going to work out.

That's sort of a disingenuous statement. The camera POV has nothing to do with wether what you are seeing is in produced via the game engine or pre-rendered i seem to recall spending lots of time in first person view while working through MGS3, there's no reason they couldn't have created a cut scene from the enemies POV.

Wow looks amazing, I am excited to play as Solid Snake more than ever. I dont get why people dont think it is cool. And by the way I doubt he is 60, because of him being a **Spoiler** Clone **Spoiler** he ages faster.

The thing about MGS series has always been for me an extremyl enveloping sotry with great gameplay. And I think him being old and having flaws and stuff only helps people indentify with Solid as they play.

Ohh and that trailer was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, its obviously a cut-scene, the graphics are going to look amazing, everyone saw what they pumped outa the ageing PS2 for MGS3 think about what they will be able to do with the PS3!

nevermind that those images look nothing like the video in terms of effects (dust and debris) as well as shadows and shading.

Sorry, but the facts are against you. Kojima and Konami have said the trailer features in-game graphics, no CG. And assuming it's a cut scene, well, MGS' cut scenes don't use CG.

It's amazing how every PS3 game we know about looks amazing, but there are still people who think every company involved is putting out CG.

Yes because the makers of an product wouldn't want to hype up their product

and lol, MGS' cutscenes don't use cg? are you joking?

Generally, they don't. The bulk of the cutscenes in MGS2 are rendered in real-time by the engine. You can prove this by holding R1 to zoom in during a cutscene, then use the right analog stick to pan the camera. The ones that aren't real-time are the intro video, video clips shown during CODEC conversations, and parts of the ending.

Guess what? I have a dvd player that can let you zoom in and pan too! Does that mean that my dvd player is rendering those movies in realtime?

can't really pan around to see whats not on the screen tho can you? can't exactly move the camera

"Sorry Spielbery mate, just move the camera a bit over.....here, cheers"

If you had actually tried it (which I seriously doubt, given your post) you would notice none of the degradation in quality when zooming that you get when enlarging a pre-recorded video. Also, in the Substance version of MGS2, you can unlock a number of items (sunglasses, wigs, etc) that change the appearance of your character, even in cutscenes. If you think they re-rendered every cutscene for every combination of these items, then you obviously don't know much about how cutscenes are made.

There's also the simple fact that they ARE real-time, which was discussed and confirmed years ago when the game came out.

The trailer that is linked in this thread is a CG rendered intro to the game. MGS2 had both in engine cut scenes and pre-rendered CG. You can tell just by looking at em.....plus all the pre-rendered stuff would be in Dolby Digital surround.

Nice trailer.

Its a shame I'm cynical to the point that until I see a dev kit or final hardware running in-game that none of it matters.

I am sick of console hype-wars and until I see gameplay its nothing more than a nice trailer.

Would you care to point out an instance in which a Metal Gear Solid game has used CG during the events of the game to generate a plot scene? I can't think of one. The only CG MGS1 had was the pixellated recordings of gene scientists working, plus the Alaskan wildlife. None of the actual in-game events were rendered in CG. The same happened with MGS2 and MGS3.

Of course, you can't point out an instance in which CG was used instead of real-time models, primarily because it's never happened. Final Fantasy is famous for using CG to illustrate story events: MGS isn't.

Oh well, keep hating.

god, people are stupid. mgs has never used CG. Hideo Kojima has stated this many times, that metal gear solid 4 video is not CG either. its all in engine, actual graphics, polygons, textures, aliasing, slowdown (yep, if you notice, there are a few scenes where it chugs for a half second), its all in there. sure, those camera angles are pre-configured, cuz its a "cut-scene" and in game in engine movie, but its all running of of a PS3 in real-time. also, mgs1-3 never used CG either people, so quit saying they did. cuz they didn't. not even a little. fact! it wasn't even the sorta CG that god of a war and other games do, where they just import the ingame models into CG (which looks like shit by the way), it looks like shit when they do that, all washed out and shitty. worse than in engine. real-time, believe it, I don't understand why everyone is so afraid of real-time graphics actually being this good? wtf? believe it, PS3 in the right hands is going to do some awesome stuff, like this mgs4 real-time in engine video for instance. and guess what? this video is very very very early, likely just finished recently, the game doesn't come out for like a year or two, so actual gameplay as well as real-time cutscenes will no doubt look atleast this good, but i'm willing to bet better with all that time still ahead of them. and thanks all my brothers who have helped defend this before me, and to all of them, man! wasn't that video awesome!? OMG! snake fighting fox die, and cqc with a rifle! and and...awesome!

I agree that this is all in game FMV, and I have to say it looks damn awesome.

Seem from that video the Patriots have caused WW3 and poor ol snake is fight for freedom again.

I can't wait!

All I can say is that was PIMP. Thats one reason alone right there to buy the PS3 (let alone all the others).

I don't know what they're talking about, you can't really tell from the movie if it's pre-rendered or not. Now those screenshots show off alot more and it's pretty clear from them that it's not pre-rendered.

I guess they're just angry over the Xbox 360/Madden thing. ;)

Watched the video.... OMFG!!

I'm getting a PS3.
