Mega Man 9!!!

It was revealed a week or two ago, but yeah, I'm really psyched. The Mega Man series was one of my first forays into gaming, and I've been waiting for an MM9 for quite a few years now. All we need is for X9 to be announced to complete the cycle :D.

What a joke. Wii-only, and the graphics...wtf? And before all the "gameplay over graphics" crowd jump on my nuts, just because gameplay is important (it is!) doesn't mean that a developer should produce an 8-bit game with 25 year old graphics. This is just downright lazy.

I'll drop $5 on it.

I remember getting Mega Man as a gift when I was younger. It was one of the first games that I finished, and to this day, one of my favorite games.

I'd love to see some updated graphics, but if they want to test the waters with wii-ware, I'm sure they'll find that many people will bite.

You are totally missing the point I think.

This is outstanding. Megaman Was meant to be a 2D game. It was always about the game play, not the graphics.

I dont play any games anymore. I used to be a hard core gamer, but games got too complicated for me. TO much graphics, to many buttons to mash. Im only 23 and have already been passed up.

I welcome this simple game, back to our roots. NES was the best, and always will be.

Gotta love false dichotomy fallacies. There are more options than just "great gameplay, crappy graphics" and "crappy gameplay, great graphics." This is laziness, pure and simple. This might be taking them two months of development time and they're doing it just to cash in on idiots who have a hard-on for nostalgia. They could've even kept the simplistic gameplay intact and still updated the graphics.

Using 25 year old graphics in this day and age isn't nostalgia, it's laziness.

MM9 won't be for everyone (Daggah's thoughts are mirrored by many) but for those of us who enjoyed simple/fun gameplay without all the fluff of today's games, we are all happy. I'm sure the game will do well.

I can respect their decision on the basis of it being an artistic choice, like making a game cel-shaded or black and white (SOMEONE should do this damnit. Max Payne 3 anyone?). I also think the obviously low development cost should be passed on to the gamers.

I couldn't see paying more than $10 for this, maybe $15 if the gameplay is balls-out amazing. I enjoyed some of the Megaman games, but they were also frustrating as hell much of the time. Whether this works or not is going to depend heavily on the price.

I really could have gone for a 2D cel-shaded mega man 9.

Mega Man: Powered Up on psp is an excellent example of how to do a side scroller right graphically. Its highly underrated imo. Screenshots don't do it justice, the game moves absolutely beautifully.

I'm a huge Mega Man fan and I loved the Mega Man Zero/ZX series the developers made before this but Mega Man 9 just leaves me cold.

After the events of Mega Man 8 how can you go back and ignore all that happened in MM7 and 8?

I'm only going to get it if the reviews are amazingly high. The modern day level design is the only saving grace for this title.

Looking forward to it. Unlike Daggah, and others like him, I'm actually excited that a game has taken a more nostalgic approach to technology.

the game's been reviewed by ign as an 8.6.

"Mega Man 9 harkens back to a time when games were actually hard. Be prepared to throw a controller or two."

that's awesome.

I believe it was first announced to be wii only, then changed. I could be wrong though.

It was announced for the Wii first, but it was always planned to be released on all three. In fact, it's the first downloadable title to be available on all three current-gen systems.

Crock of shit, should update the graphics like other old games have been like bionic commando/1942 etc. It is a fucking joke for the price!

Mega Man 8 did it right with graphics and gameplay. But I'm not a huge fan of the series so your mileage may very.

I don't get why they went backwards and took away lots of the features.

Also am I the only one that liked Megaman Legends?!

I also don't think you can slide. Since that was a feature in Megaman 4, I think they could have included that.

Mega Man 4 was actually the first one I had, so I'm partial to the mega-blaster and sliding. But I'll sure be getting this regardless.

I've only played mm1,2,3 and 8 and Rockman and Forte. I also never beat the latter 2, so Sliding wasn't my thing anyway. MM9 is gonna own! I just hope its 900 points or less.

Damn, now that's what I call old school right there. That's some straight up 8 bit action from the NES days. I've played and beat every single Mega Man including the X series and Rockman & Forte, so now I have to buy this damn thing and beat it so I can still say I've beat every mega man. :p

Can't wait to pick this up along with Wipeout next week. Capcom has been on a roll lately, first BCR, now this.

Like it or not they were going for the old look. They even added intentional graphic glitches like sprite flicker to the game in order to mimic what a game on NES would look like. This can be turned off in the options of course.

I personally would've preferred SNES graphics over NES (MMX quality), but I'm still interested as I had MM1-3 for the NES back in the day. They were great.

It looks like it's being released on the PS3 a week before the 360 according to that wikipedia entry. I would've gotten it for the PS3 anyway due to the d-pad.

This game is said to come out on Sep 22nd..... so where is it!!!!

Nintendo of America is in the Seattle area, so it's not the 22nd there, yet. Besides, they may wait 'til 6am or noon or something. That still makes it the 22nd.

Yeah I know, but I am impatient. Mega Man is my favorite ever. MM2 to be specific. I have prayed for this day for them to release a MM9. It was only the cherry on the top that it comes in classic 2D NES graphics and awesome NES sound. I mean look at my iTunes.... I have every Mega Man Song Ever.... MM 1 - 8, X-1 - X-6, and Various others.

It's out on WiiWare, and the other versions are coming out within the next couple of days. I will be buying shortly :D.
