It is the worst game I've played in recent memory. Or ever even.

The shooting itself it okay and can even be fun but what ruins it is the constant interruption and nannying about of the fucking cut scenes - when you are in the stadium and tracking your buddy WHY does the game force you to look at him when he is moving and not just give you the control to look around and maybe find some people that are trying to kills him?

That is the worst part of it - it HAS some good things in it but they are completely ruined by cut scenes for EVERY STEP. It's not a movie it's a fucking GAME R*...

Am I the only one here?

One of my fav games this year. Good story, appreciated the cut scenes on my first playthrough. It broke it up some and added a lot of immersion, imo. My only gripe was not being able to skip them on subsequent playthroughs.

I agree with the OP. Games shouldn't be 90% cutscene and 10% player control

Yeah it wasn't my type of game either and is definitely one of the worst iv played this year. I normally hate cut scenes in games as i feel it breaks up the action and makes it feel disjointed.

However i have played "The Walking Dead" and its full of cut scenes and iv loved every second of it. Cant wait for episode 5, so maybe its just how well its done and if i care about the subject (not that fussed about max payne, really enjoy the tv show of the walking dead)

I thought it was good except I am not fond of cut scenes except maybe between levels.

max payne 3 was worth the money and the time -- great story, great gameplay, yeah you had to see a cutscene or two, but it was worth it.

it's not some COD first person twitch shooter - this was basically a movie where you controlled the fight scenes. The camera work was great.

Just played it some more and just can't believe the number of cut scenes and for what things too - open a double door, cut scene, press a button to open a gate, cut scene?

A cut scene here and there is ok, but the amount in here kills the game beyond anything I've ever come across. Then a boat scene where let me guess a shitload of guys are gonna be on shore and on boats and... wow I am surprised on cars all chasing you? Inspired R*...

I see how this can come across as just another senseless whine and maybe so, but I just can't believe what they've done with the game. May as well call it Call of Payne and in my books that is the highest insult you can give to an FPS.

It's fair to say that 360 and PS3 nigh on killed decent games.

Hated the game as well the presentation is just irritating beyond belief. Couldn't stand what they did the shoot dodge mechanics either. It just turned you into a ufo that could snipe everyone in the room.

I got to the stadium and kinda lost interest and was slightly frustrated. I was getting tired of how cut scenes were so often and the effects used in the cut scenes were getting really annoying and repetitive. I'm guessing they wanted me to feel like I finished a fifth of Jack.

Was a fantastic game, just too short. Been that way since the start. Wish it had another 10 hour storyline / game play add on pack.

Aside from the stadium and the dock/boat chase I enjoyed the game. I wasnt sure how I would like the new direction from the previous games, but I cant say I didnt enjoy it.

Really enjoyed the game, but I agree the cutscenes were a bit much. However, if you look at it more like an interactive movie then it's not so bad.

Strong story line is what made the game an original hit to begin with - well that and bullet time. There's a reason why games like Max Payne and Grand Theft Auto have such a strong following.. they have well written stories flowing throughout the game play.

I seriously hated the storyline in MP3. I'm on mission 8-9 and I haven't touched that in probably a month. I seriously need to finish it.and remove it from my Steam folder. The thing that really irritates me with the game is how big the filesize was. 36 gigs for a freaking movie game, seriously are you fucking kidding me? If they used MKV compression or something equivalent it wouldn't be such a bloated mess.

What are you talking about OP, you are clearly delusional, or lacking severely in taste, somehow.

MP3.... let's see...

It had Great Gameplay, Great Graphics, Good Story and one of the most memorable, side-sweeping, mediterranean, semi-unique, and just flat out fun multiplayer experience.

Sure.... things/fight sequences were fairly repetitive as the game progressed, but the story was intact all the way through. It was visually aesthetic, deep and driven.

A lot of games didn't accomplish jack squat this year, hell, there weren't even any worthy 2012 GOTY contenders(aside from the upcoming AC3 and Hitman that's about to be released shortly on pc)

Most games in 2012 were either
a) good story bad multiplayer
b)bad story good multiplayer
or...
good graphics and shitty gameplay.

MP3 was a truly top notch all-rounder quality product. Somewhere in the 9.0 to 9.5 range for me.

OP, you're just blabbering rubbish. You already know deep down that there's 9000 times shittier games out there, yet you decide to thrash this one out of the random blue because you were bored on a Sunday night, just admit it.

"I needed a real drink to cope with the electronic music and robotic people"
Max is still as sharp witted as ever. I love me some electro, but I still lol'd when he said this. Also, the airport scene with Tears by Health is probably my favourite level of any game this gen.

Different strokes for different folks. It was one of the best games of the year. I loved it the first time around and look forward to a 2nd run.

Just played it past the the boat level and in the bus station now - it's getting better but it still feels restricted.

Ham - you gotta understand that what you like may not be liked by others. I loved the hell out of Crysis (-2 ofc) and Stalker games yet some people had similar reactions to them as me to MP3. Sure there maybe worse games out there - but at least they are straight about it, but what makes MP3 so bad for me is that it HAS good elements to it which are completely fucked over with the cut scenes and the constant force-guiding.

I hated it, but then again I LOVED Max Payne and Max Payne 2...

The whole Noir thing was killed with MP3.

I miss Mona :(. I even played on the hardest setting just to get her to stay alive.

Maaaax, Dearest of all my friends, you died with your sequel. RIP.

It is pretty laughable that the cutscenes are unskippable even in Arcade Mode. Doesn't that pretty much defeat the purpose?

I loved it. Thought they did a great job with the atmosphere and introspective feel, there's more to "noir" than winter in New York. But yes there were a few "oh for fuck's sake" moments where they overdid the cutscenes. Other than that it often looked fantastic, fun gunplay, dumb storyline, not much else came close this year.

Except this wasn't.

Great game. One of the best I've played this year.

Same.

Major exaggerations, agreed. I have to agree here to a point, there are a good number of cutscenes, but they do try to tell a story, so I'm not all up in arms about that. Shooting felt very solid, voice work was great, and the environments kicked ass. GoTY for me anyway.

GOTY, Max Payne was a cinematic amazing fucking experience. Stop being impatient and enjoy the experience.

It's one of the best game I've played this year and needed to finish it. This reminds of playing metal gear solid except better gameplay. Solid story line and graphx makes up for the cutscenes. But like everyone else said, different strokes for the different folks.

Yeah just finished it and I see how amazing it could be if you got into it but it never really got any better for me. The shooting mechanics are cool but it really is like having a piece of cake on a plate of turds for me.

I love the game, since i absolutely hate MP game, except if they are Story COOP. But yes there is a lot of cutscenes..

I love you. Now did you get a PS Vita yet? PERSONA TOMORROW!!

I want to man, really do. I'm sure I'll end up with one soon enough but it will most likely be after the holidays. I still have to get my kids gifts yet.

Ah, the kids thing. Well more power to you, get them the best damn things you can afford. While I do want kids in the future, I'm just so selfish right now in my mid 20's haha.

Happy holidays man.

Funny this pops up today. I just won this game last night after having it on my backlog for a few months.

This game desperately needed some new mechanics by the end. The guns all work the same way, the enemies are essentially all the same, and there are no grenades or crowd clearing weapons.

The entire game you're literally doing the exact same thing over and over and over. Some better melee elements, grenades, a better roll dodge, different weapons, etc. were sorely needed. As it stands, just jump - headshot everyone in the room, get to cover, repeat.

Gee, sounds like every other game ever made. :p

Idk, I thought it was quite good, despite the same thing we've seen in other games I suppose.

I think my gripe is that the guns are literally all the same. A single headshot kills everyone - so you just grab whatever is around. There's no fun getting "good" guns when they're no better than the gun you start with. With the helmet guys you shoot twice - everyone gets one apiece....or you can just go crazy and spray them if you want.
The joy of playing a shooter is a variety of enemies and weapons, and the game has neither.

The cover mechanic and enemies auto-aiming turned the game into more of a wargame, than a John Woo movie, which is a shame.

I only really bought the game for multiplayer, which was fantastic and well worth the full price ( I usually wait for sales ).

Rockstar hyped up and lied about crews though. The in-game social networking was next to non-existent.

Max Payne 3 was one of the only games that I've played all the way through and enjoyed in a very long time. Sure it wasn't without its flaws...but no game is perfect.

For what it was and what it did it was an amazing game.

I thought the cut scenes were great, because the dialogue and writing is very good. I can see how you wouldn't like it though. I haven't actually finished the game yet because I keep getting sucked into Skyrim. But it is a fun game. I wouldn't say it's "bad", because really everything about the game is well done and polished. It just sounds like it's not your genre.

MP3 is awesome! Don't know what OP is smokin but MP3 has some of the best graphics & action ass kicking that I have ever seen in a game.

Perhaps the OPs GPU, CPU & display suck because playing MP3 on my Catleap 2b @2560x1440 120hz was pure WIN....my favorite board was when your going through the slums of Sao Palo...twas amazingly gross

NINJA EDIT:

According to the OPs sig he rocking this: Samsung SyncMaster 913N
Dude thats your problem right there...thats a SEVEN year old 1280x1024 crap display....no wonder you didn't enjoy MP3
