Mass Effect 3 SPOILERS THREAD

Unless they want to kill it off so they put everything in their Star Wars MMO.

I don't know. Is it possible?

ToR is dieing and with people pissed over this people are canceling there ToR accounts

and i will be telling my friend to stop playing ToR as well
Bioware does not deserve your money and i hope ToR fails hard now

also i hear reports that the ToR devs have been dark over major bugs for weeks

Yeah, if TOR is dying then I can't imagine that would be it.

Funny thing about ME3 is the multiplayer. It seems like a lot of people really enjoy it, so it seems hard to believe that EA would kill off the ME universe at the same time as introducing a MP component.

Unless the new Mass Effect is to become like Battlefield or Battlefront. We'd get to use the Mako again!

Agreed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mako incorporated into an MP scenario down the road if it stays popular and they decide to take things to the next level with Mass Effect 4 or whatever it would be called.

The facts that the BSN forums have been pulling up seem to strongly indicated that the ending was just as Bioware intended, i.e. the indoctrination theory was not part of their plan. This is especially convincing since there is a sticky thread there saying that they are listening to their fans about the ending (why would they need say it like that if a different ending was planned or if there was a "hidden meaning" in the ending?)

Mass Effect was 3 games of very good writing ended with 5 minutes of very bad writing it seems. Regardless of their INTENT, that is a really, really lousy way to end your series.

Yeah. It's funny, the only way the ending makes sense is by going with a theory where the ending doesn't actually happen. I still believe indoctrination was what they were going for at the end because if I don't, I start losing it thinking of all the plot holes the alternative brings. I've been a Bioware fan for a long time now and I can't honestly think they would come out with an ending that didn't make sense on purpose. I'm trying to keep the faith, but it's hard :(

I really wish they would just come out and let us know. If the ending is indoctrination, sweet, where's the rest of it then, or if the ending is actually the ending, what drug where they using when they thought it was a good idea and what drug do I need to use so it makes sense.

That being said, I really do enjoy the multiplayer. It's simple, yet fun.

More on the indoctrination theory that I thought was pretty interesting. (from BSN)

Wait wait wait, hold everything.

Can someone verify if the chain reaction starts in the Viper system or not?

Because, I have seen multiple people (myself included) say they believe that at the end, the galaxy is representative of the neural pathways in Shep's brain, with red being the brain rejecting indoctrination, and blue/green accepting it.

If the chain reaction does in fact start in the Viper nebula, we could assume that Shep's brain perceives that zone of space as being where indoctrination started (by being unconscious near Object Rho for two days), hence why the chain reaction of rejection/acceptance would start there.

I think I just blew my own mind.

and

I get what you're saying there, I'm actually on the fence about it myself. To me it seems like a minor enough detail that Bioware might've just missed it, unlike some of the other rather major stuff that people call as being due to artistic license or screw ups.

I've also heard the argument that the beam starts at the Alpha Relay because its supposedly the oldest known mass relay, and also happens to be in the Viper Nebula, which makes some sense to me as well.

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Alpha_Relay

Supposedly the Alpha Relay is special.

Interesting since the Alpha Relay was destroyed in ME2 DLC

and

This just hit me. The galaxy map can be said to be symbolic of Shepard's indoctrination throughout the game - more Reaper icons on the map indicates how close Shepard is to indoctrination. When the game starts, there are relatively few Reaper ships out on the map, but by the final battle every cluster and mass relay is covered with them.

Or it doesn't mean anything, and I'm assigning meaning where it happens to circumstantially fit.

Not saying it's true or not obviously but fits in with the theory of it all being in Shep's head. I find it interesting to think about anyway.

Some of these theories are so interesting, I'm half expecting Bioware to pick one of them, run with it, and be all like "YEP THAT WAS THE PLAN ALL ALONG, HA HA! We're so clever!"

Personally, I like the indoctrination theory and after repeated viewings of the ending and others opinions, it makes sense to me as well. I view two of the endings as being the choices that ultimately lead to Saren and TIM becoming fully indoctrinated. Saren with his view to merge with the Reapers to save himself/everyone being akin to the 'Synchronization' choice and TIM with his desire to control the Reapers being the 'Control' choice.

My biggest gripe with the ending is that it is so open to interpretation, I've invested a lot of time in this series and I wanted some sort of epilogue for the various characters. With that said, I have a feeling EA kinda planned it this way, they may not fully detail what happened with Shepherd and his decision (a Stargazer focussed sequel might investigate this), but instead release DLC that focuses on what happened to the various crew members after the battle.

Who knows. One thing that I'll say, is that the story was an incredible journey and was well worth the money and time (even if the ending left a bit to be desired.)

The old man and the kid were so bad. Pitiful voice acting. The old man sounds like he's reading straight from a script. It sounds so clumsy.

The Stargazer is voiced by Buzz Aldrin. I'm forwarding this to him so that he might punch you in the face.

when i saw that i face plamed proof we DID land on the moon Buzz cant act for shit lol
/comic book shop guy WORST VA WORK EVER

My thought as I was playing the ending was that it was some type of hallucination brought on by something: coma, stress, something. I wasn't sure where reality stopped and fantasy began. Was it after the beam or after he blacked out at the Citadel? The Reaper indoctrination theory is generally superior, however.

Didn't BioWare already come out and say that they wanted the ending to raise all sorts of questions and that they wanted it to be unforgettable? Also, I do wonder how this will affect future sales of the game, and how any future DLC would be incorporated into the game. Would it just be automatically downloaded by Origin? So people playing the game for the first time at some future date wouldn't be left with this seeming cliffhanger (assuming the DLC is free)?

Yeah, I already said that I didn't know it was Buzz Aldrin. Is this something obvious to most people?

The whole thing sounds weird ("one day, my sweet"). They should have used Leonard Nimoy.

Edit: So would that mean that the relays were really destroyed and advanced technology was eliminated? Buzz Aldrin, real-life space hero, talking to his grandson (?) about space travel. So it's as if Buzz is telling the story far into the future when humans are finally back to the brink of galactic space travel (effectively where we're at now in real life, or close to being in the next two hundred years)? I got the Destroy ending, so that works there. I'm not sure how well the other two endings would work, though.

It has to be bullshit. There are two clues beyond all others that struck me as odd when I played through it the first time. Shepard shoots Anderson in the stomach. Then after Anderson dies he has the gunshot wound in his stomach. Then he wakes up in London in the so called renegade ending after its all over. These two things are really what tell me that any other explanation besides indoctrination is bullshit.

We'll see in the next few weeks.

WOW so many lies from Bioware they can suck a cock now never buying any more games from them

and you're still being fed more bullshit on an obvious bioware shill piece. a positive spin on another lie, where they make it out to be a problem due to time constraints, when we already have irrefutable evidence that it was done purely for monetary gain.

Frankly, none of these revelations bode particularly well for BioWare, as many of them only serve to confirm the suspicisions of the game's unruly fanbase. Given the nature of game development, it's wholly unfair to claim that BioWare ruined the ending by rushing it out the door at the last minute, but it certainly won't be easy to convince the detractors of that when these new details play so handily into their arguments.

do they consider their readers retarded or what? contempt, patronising, misdirection, AND sympathetic all in the same paragraph, this guy is pretty good.

I think it depends on the ending people got but in my case, based on what I saw for myself in my ending, I'm not sold on the indoctrination theory at all.

The combination of anger and letdown that people are feeling is understandable and one of the logical reactions is to try and overthink something and make a mountain out of a mole hill which, IMO, things like the indoctrination theory are. I've done that sort of thing myself any number of times. :)

As it is, didn't I see somewhere that one of the DLCs forthcoming is called The Truth?

http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-ne...ffect-3-story-dlc-the-truth-arriving-in-april

"The ending was half-assed because of the leak. They changed it at the last minute so they could have more time to prepare the real ending via DLC.

"It’s called The Truth and it’s being released in April or May. You WILL be able to continue the story if you picked any of the endings. Your decision during that sequence will have a big effect on your ending of The Truth.

The Truth adds two new sets of enemies, new classes, and multiplayer maps including “Firebase Hive”, which is a small area of the last remaining collector ship included in the DLC, which, by the way you should definitely bring Javik the Prothean along if you have him.

"The picture here shows some of the leaked multiplayer classes and races. One race that isn’t shown is the Prothean Adept and Vanguard. This DLC also enables the ability for owners of the preorder and From Ashes DLC to find their DLC weapons in reinforcement packs.

"All that content, and this might as well be labeled an expansion pack.

"And it’s free.

"You’re welcome."

See that bolded item? Maybe the pitchforks and the torches can be put away until we at least see if this ends up being true or not?

I'd say there's a decent chance this isn't way off the mark and if it ends up being true then it's going to be a good thing. Let's all have a LITTLE patience. :)

so far Bioware has said there is no such DLC coming
soo yea... that came from a 4chan post...
also the Mass Effect "Final Hours" ap disproves the leak thing they planned this from the start

That's why I posted it as the rumor that it is. *shrugs* We'll find out soon enough one way or the other.

Ok.

not trying to be a dick but Bioware has not be treating there fan base very well and since that Ap came has been caught if more then a few lies

No question there's some things that have been going on here that leave bad tastes in people's mouths. I'm not impressed with what I've seen thus far from them, either.

I wish BioWare would just come out and say that they're going to release something, if that's what they're going to do. The game's getting a lot of bad publicity, and I can't see how letting this thing fester is a good idea.

Say "Stay tuned for a big announcement" and be done with it. Otherwise, say "sorry people don't like it, but we think it's great the way it is. It's final."

I'd love to see the ending in Ubik style... but it would require someone who could think like Philip Dick to do that - after Shepard dies in ME3, we see funeral.... but on Eden Prime, and everything that happened in ME 2/3 was just visions Shepard had, when he was in agony, after his death during first mission on Eden Prime in ME1. Or it could be Shepard dies in ME3, but wakes near the Prothean beacon in ME1

But it would require certain skill in writing and the courage to go against the massess. Which I hope someone at Bioware has.

It's not going to happen and I'm glad because that really would be a screw job ending that would mean everything you didn't count for a hill of beans. That's not being creative. That's a lame cop out of the highest order.

still be better then what we got on the disk lol:p that would at lest make sense

It would be garbage IMO. I'd rather keep it the way I saw at the end of my own playthrough. YMMV obviously.

Good stories need to have purpose and meaning to it all even if it doesn't end with "Cinderella lived happily ever after" necessarily.

The Phillip K Dick "it was all a dream" does not fit that criteria for me. Again, YMMV.

Frankly this is moot because we all know that this game is going to see several DLCs in some form or another so this isn't the "last final word" on the subject. The jury is still technically out.

my biggest issue with the endings was they just felt out of place
you ether had to assume "it was all a dream" or you had an ass load of plot holes
if they had ended the game right be for the white light elevator i would of said BEST GAME EVER
but man every thing after Anderson dies was just crap

That would definitely be going against the masses but I dont think that would be a good thing to do. Theyre going against the masses right now with the current endings. If after this firestorm of nerdrage, they come out with "ok, it really wasnt the ending. This new DLC is the ending. It was all a dream and Shep really died in the opening sequence of ME1". If they did that, I could almost guarantee that there would be legions of nerds LITERALLY storming BioWare HQ with torches and pitchforks.

The main thing I'd like to see is what happens to the Turians, Quarians, Asari, Humans, Krogan, you name it. Pretty creative universe there, and of course there's always a chance that a game dev decides "to go in different direction." I also hope to God that this thing doesn't become an apocalyptic MMO.

Agreed.

Your suggestion of where to cut things off would have been a great idea. :)

And rightfully so because "it's all a dream and you can have everything mean whatever you want it to mean" is the ultimate lame cop out.

Purpose and meaning. <- These are the criteria for good storytelling.

I'd rather Bioware stick to their guns at that rate.

I still maintain my theory that BioWare came up with this ending because of time constraints and the "real" ending will be out shortly via DLC. That makes the most sense to me. I cant see anyway how developers that can come up with the pure genius that is the Mass Effect series, cant come up with an ending better than this. When you look at the complex story, detail, characters and everything that make up ME, these guys are just riddled with talent. No way they make a flop of an ending like this as their "final" ending to all the work they put into the series.

For all the hate and rage aimed at BioWare right now, Im holding off. Ive got about 200 hours in ME1 and 2 and have loved every minute of it. BioWare has easily earned the benefit of the doubt from me because of it. Even if these crappy endings are the "real" endings, itll stuck big time and be a big brown stain of shit on the best video game series in history but it wont negate the fact that Mass Effect is still the best video game series in history. Cant hate a company too much that gives you hundreds of hours of pure gaming bliss but then flops the final 3 minute ending. At least I cant.

Co-signed.

Cynical add on: Everyone and their mother knows DLCs are the rule of the land these days.

Of course they weren't going to tie it all up and wrap it all up with a pretty bow in the "main game." They want people to keep opening their wallets for the DLCs and keep coming back.

If I get at least Overlord and Shadow Broker caliber DLCs then that's something to look forward to. :)

IN THE GRIM DARK FUTURE OF MASS EFFECT 40,000 THERE IS ONLY WAR
oh wait.. thats another game lol:rolleyes:

I have a theory on the DLC too. I think they were going to wait and see what happened. If nobody seemed to care about the ending, theyd probably charge $5-10 like they normally do. But if everybody erupted in hate and rage like they pretty much have, then I think theyll get it out for free so as not to piss of the entire gaming community.

I know this goes against all our PC gaming experience because we're used to getting screwed over but this anger has erupted in the console community as well, if not more than in the PC gaming crowd. And as we're constantly told, the console gamer is the most important group of people in the world and everything is always catered to them. With them up in arms alongside us measly PC gamers, this backlash is carrying a lot more weight.

This isnt like when we were up in arms over Crysis 2's letdown because Crytek doesnt care if only 5% of the gaming market are upset. With ME3, youve got the other 95% fired up too.

Excellent points.

It isn't just the "whiny elitist picky never satisfied small niche" PC gamers this time 'round. ;)

I'd say...just my gut...better than 50/50 odds that rumor about The Truth DLC that I posted ends up being at least somewhat true.

If they put something like that out for free it would be a hell of a cool and atypical gesture on their part that I think would go a long ways to mending fences quickly.

I hope it happens. :)

the Multiplayer part im sure is 100% dead on
its the SP DLC im calling BS on

BioWare can't even afford to release the Prothean character for free. How the heck would a new ending be in the budget? The only way it's free is if the whole thing was planned.

If and when they release a new ending, what will be telling is the level of integration it has with the game. Apparently Fallout had a certain ending and the Broken Steel DLC altered that ending. You still saw what you saw, but on subsequent playthroughs the ending was altered and what you saw originally had been changed. Instead of getting melted you fall over or something and it goes from there.

If a new ending blends in seamlessly and doesn't appear tacked on then it's a safe bet this was planned to a large extent. If it's tacked on and vastly changes what you see on a new run through the game at the end then it's not planned.

I reverse my earlier opinion. This was not planned. If it was, they would have told us about the real ending DLC by now to stem the tide of lost sales and SWTOR cancellations. The "PR lockdown" thread on BSN is right. They're giving vague little hints to try and placate us, when in truth they're vague enough that they could be talking about MP DLC. Or worse, something that expands on the original endings rather than replacing them or adding additional options. Confused about how your squadmates teleported back to the Normandy? Don't worry, this DLC will tell the untold story of how they had some critical mission to pull off while you were having your discussion with TiM and vent kid. Joker wasn't fleeing the battle like a coward, he was helping your squadmates complete the last leg of this vital mission when the shockwave (color of your choice) hit.

There's just too much evidence that they simply wrote a crappy ending. They tried to rip off Inception, BSG, the Matrix sequels, etc, to try and add some creative depth to their story at the last minute. The irony is that I liked those other endings, so it's not like I'm really hard to please. It's just that I'm not a fan when the goal of your ending is "LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE" and you'd previously promised that the ending would tie up ALL the loose ends of the series.

Everything they've said since the community backlash has been a face-saving measure. I've seen no indication that they planned for any of this.
