Mass Effect 3 SPOILERS THREAD

I didn't pay attention to what they said, so I suppose if they said they would reveal the lass's face then they should have shown it. My bit is that I don't care, but that's just me. \\ Heck, I personally like thick dark hair. It was probably a rushed pos and they paid service to attention-tits instead of giving Tali a proper draw-up.

The ending is open to interpretation in the sense in which you mentioned, Dan_D: is it a dream? is it indoctrination? is it just a just clusterfuck which blows up the galaxy? Certainly not saying hte ending is good. . .. I personally hope the EC makes it more definite.

Ashley, man.

Yeah I thought Ashley looked 10 times better in 3 then in the others.

I think they probably would've done a little more in depth with the other love interests if they had time. Tali's goodbye is very brief even if you're hooked up which is weird. Ashley's is a little longer but they ruin it with all that poetry shit. I kinda think if EA hadnt been breathing down BioWare's neck to hurry up, I think Tali and Ashley's goodbye scene would've been as in depth as Liara's. No proof of that, just a hunch.

Most definitely. She was less of a tomboy and more of a woman. As for the rest, maybe.

Very interesting. I'm surprised I never heard about this before.

Whoa, same here. Makes me wonder if all the "artistic integrity" talk from BW is their non-spoiler way of saying "we got this, you sad sacks of crap."

Like I said, it takes the pressure off if everyone thinks that Mass Effect is over for the near future, and then BioWare can come out with "it was all a dream" BS and get us going again.

Honestly, while I want this story to find resolution in a better way than it did, I'd be happy with BioWare actually taking the time to do a sequel right. Continue where ME3 left off, but actually update the graphics, spend more time on the story and characters, etc. As good as ME3 is, I still felt the game was rushed and the final act of it shows how rushed they really were.

Again Liara's core personality shows in ME3 depending on your choices and whether or not you have or start a romance with her. As for having the least to say, not hardly. Liara drives a lot of the story i that she's the one bringing Shepard most of the information about potential missions and interjects a lot at very specific points where the plot is concerned. She also has at least as many conversations with Shepard as anyone else does and possibly more. Her romance scene is the longest by far. She also has more on mission dialog than most of the characters do. Her dialog is also more varied than other characters. She has specific dialog based on if she was romanced, cheated on, whether or not you did the Shadow Broker DLC, and paragon / renegade dialog.

As much as I like her, she's practically shoved down your throat in ME3 at a lot of points whether you like it or not. I don't have a problem with that other than I think they short changed other characters at her expense. I'd rather have had them bring all the relationships up to the level of detail hers has.
I believe it. I admit I don't have nearly the perspective on the series that you do. I've still only played each game once. I'm waiting for the EC to do a full playthrough of all three games in a row. I'm thinking of going with a male Shepard this time, but I don't know. I kind of identify the games so much with my current Shepard that it might be weird to see somebody else in her spot. Decisions decisions.

It is at first, but I've played through ME2 and some of three with a FemShep. I do prefer the game from a male's perspective. I just prefer the interactions in the game that way. I still enjoy playing it with a FemShep though. I think the key is to change it up a lot to avoid the weirdness. I usually go for Liara with ManShep, so with FemShep I'd go with someone completely different for the romance. I even go so far as to do things in a different order, pick different conversation choices, etc. That's helped me keep it fresh and less weird.

I've discovered I just can't do a renegade Shep. I've tried on three occasions to do it and it just doesn't suit me.

My problem with going male is that the voice actor just doesn't do it for me. To me, it sounds like he is phoning it in on some of his lines, whereas I feel like the female voice acting better captures the emotions at important points in the games. At least from what I've seen in videos. I've only played about 20 minutes of ME1 with a MaleShep.

I'll still use a male Shepard for my second playthrough though. Having a different face with the same voice is just too much. ;)

I have a different opinion. I think Mark Meer nails it most of the time and Jennifer Hale overacts many of her lines. She's got too much emotion for things that shouldn't be all that big a deal.

Agreed, Mark Meer is THE Shep for me. I tried going the female route and it just didn't do it for me.

And I think Jennifer Hale does a fantastic job............in other roles. Not so much as Shepard.

I think they both did a great job. Its gotta be hard ya know cause they're not interacting with other actors and they probably aren't getting the best context and all that as they're just reading lines. Yeah they won't win an Oscar with their performances but I think they were just fine. I have no complaints with the voice acting at all. Martin Sheen did the best job. He was awesome as TIM. Couldn't imagine anybody else doing it.

I heard the guy who did Kal Reegar in ME2 was all geared up to do something in ME3, but BioWare instead chose not to call him.

I agree that Jennifer HAle is tremendous in just about everything. Having said that, though, I couldn't manage to get past the first mission in ME1 with a femshep. I consider myself a progressive guy, but femshep is weird for me personally.

I always wished that Jennifer Hale had voiced a side character LOL.

For Renegade/Paragon, I personally find it most natural to go Paragon, Renegade, Paragon (ME1, 2, and 3). ME2 introduced the cutscene interaction and I rarely could restrain myself from pressing the renegade actions. Plus you're working for Cerberus, which is plenty Renegade, so I just play the game like an asshole in order to fit in.

Or they just re-used certain assets from the dream sequence to save time. Sure, the asset filename could be a clue that it's all a big conspiracy and it's all a dream. Or the asset design for the end was rushed, just like the writing for the end.

No sir. The foliage in question doesn't appear anywhere else in the game. No where. We aren't talking about the shrubs and trees used in London and the dream sequences.

You are correct, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

IMO it all being a dream makes less sense than the catalyst, even if the dream spares us the current ending.

Not really. It makes a lot more sense. It just doesn't resolve the game's overarching plot line. In essence, the fight with the Reapers continues. But everything after the beam hitting Shepard being a dream or hallucination of an injured or dying Shepard, does make a lot of sense. It's the only way you can make sense of the nonsense presented after that point because dreams don't make sense by their very nature.

in real life yes... but dreams in film and media are suposed to make sense, because it's part of a narrative, so I would not consider it a reprieve.

I've always hated that dream sequences in films, games, and written works were always so reasonable, linear and so unlike actual dreams. If it turns out that the ending to Mass Effect 3 was actually a dream, then BioWare would be among the only ones who ever wrote dreams right. Then again, the earlier dream sequences we know are dream sequences were the nonsense Hollywood type. Why the hell would Shepard dream about running through the woods? That's not something Shepard ever did during the games.

Yeah, they really didn't fit in any way. You can't even make the argument that they were woods Shepard visited while awaiting trail in Vancouver because it's a deciduous forest. At best you can say that it's based on some untold narrative, which is a problem in other areas of ME3 (e.g. Kai Leng). I'm not sure if I'd consider the dream to be a realistic portrayal though unless it is being influenced by indoctrination. Coming up with the whole cycle scenario and synthesis solution seems unlikely in a dream state.

there was no indoctrination give up and deal with it EA rushed bioware and the lead write fucked up
this whole "its art" thing mostly likely came from that
id bet it went some thing like this
EA: hey lead writer every one hates your ending
writer: yea meant to do that "its an art thing"
EA: if your bullshiting us your going to get fired
write: i wouldnt do that :D i totally meant to do this so there would be "speculation"
EA: ok will run with "its art"

so were stuck with it now

You'd be surprised what people can dream about. Mine are absolutely fucked up and I remember them every night.

In any case, I'm farily certain that Reaper indoctrination attempts are what's at work there.

Covered this 100 times already. It's more likely that they went with this open ended mess which could be interpreted as a dream so they could make sequels. Mass Effect is too much of a cash cow to EA. The original ending wouldn't have allowed for the possibility of sequels. EA is only concerned about the bottom line and that's it right there. The artistic integrity nonsense is simply their way of wading through the shitstorm they created. Where the writers really screwed up is in thinking this artsy BS could be appreciated by the masses. It simply can not be.

As I like "arty" movies, I just wanted to say that nothing about the ending of ME3 is arty. Stylized maybe, but hardly arty. I'm not sure where you're getting that only people who drink expensive coffee's and such could ever like the ending. Holy crap, it's not that pretentious at all. That's just silly talk. lol My statements are generalized and not necessarily directed at any one person, but there seem to be quite a few of you that think pseudo pretentious hipsters are the only people who could like the ending. I...don't see it. It's just an ending that doesn't hang together all that well, nothing more.

Oh I'm well aware. I tend to have a good dream memory too, though I don't lucid dream. But that's the problem with that thought... the ending of ME3 wasn't really fucked up... just illogical. I suppose the reuse of the Shadow Broker engine assets in the long corridor of the Citadel before you meet Anderson could be construed as Shepard's memory assimilating old memories into a new construct, though I prefer the Occam's razor explanation of Bioware thought it was a cool asset and wanted to reuse it.

And yeah, I didn't really think the ending was arty. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has an arty ending. ME3 just has a confusing one. If they were going for arty, they failed.

I still keep finding and enjoying some of the writeups and videos from people trying to disect exactly WTF happened.

Found this one today

http://youtu.be/caAqFFhBn2U

I was like "meh", no much diff than half the other ones I've found. Then he got to the 17m mark when he talks about the bodies and armor's of Kaidan and Ashley being there at the beam. I hadn't noticed/seen that before.

It's all speculation still, but its all fun to pick apart and poke fun at until we see just how BW ends up explaining it in the DLC. :D

I would throw out most of what people call evidence which supposedly support the theory. The 83 minute video a page back or so has some interesting points, but a lot of it smacks of lazy developers or simply being rushed. They want to read into everyone having the same fried armor at the end, and I say that doesn't mean anything, but the developer not having the time to do a burned version of each armor, and each piece of armor in the game.

1M1 doesn't mean anything, there are bushes in the street in the London hill run, etc. The biggest piece of evidence going towards everything being a dream is Shepard waking up in rubble in the destroy ending. No matter what anyone says, that's not the damned Citadel as the Citadel isn't made of concrete. The ambience and environment is clearly London. And of course the foliage files being labled "dream planet foliage" is pretty damning evidence as well. That foliage only appears on the Eden planet at the end where the Normandy crashes.

You can argue all the rest of the nonsense either way until you are blue in the face. But those things I think are hard to reconcile as anything other than a clear sign that the end is a dream / indoctrination. The dream sequences also set the game up for that sort of thing as well as I've said many times. I mean there are other "pieces of evidence" going for the theory, and are open to interpretation. So far mine is that what we are seeing can't be taken at face value. Even if we were supposed to, you watch, BioWare will turn this into some kind of dream BS so they can make sequels. EA won't have it any other way.

SO got bored and read the ME3 forums seem the "you can get the best ending with out MP" thread got unstickied at some point lol and they have pushed any talk of it to the tech support forums and are still locking the threads about it lol

Never ever read BSN boards. Seriously. That is in the top 10 worst gaming communities of all time.

I have to agree for the most part. I don't read them anymore. The only place I go there is posts about modding the game. Those are worth reading if you want to mod the game. People aren't so bad there although occasionally someone comes in there and acts like a douche bag.

Like the guy who tried to argue computer hardware with me claiming I didn't know what I was talking about. That went well.

RAM is how much space you have to save files.

Yeah, his arguements were on a level similar to that and were about as accurate. He tried to tell me he was an electrical engineer and that he had a 2,000watt PSU in his gaming rig. He also said stupid shit like he disabled two DIMMs on his motherboard to conserve power because he's in California, and did the same with two of his three GTX 480's. The first one isn't possible and even if it was, DIMMs aren't exactly power hungry. The second one would only keep them at idle power. Nothing more.

Idiot.

So I didn't know where to put this but for those that have played ME3 and Diablo 3 or even into act 2. Did you notice a familiar child voice actor?

What character was it? If you can tell me I probably know who voiced it. I'm usually very good at identifying people by voice alone.

Its the Emperor Hakam II, couldn't figure out who it was. But it most definitely sounds like the space child :p

Dont know if this has been posted in here yet so sorry if this is old news but I stumbled onto this today. Its some of the BioWare crew doing a conference at PAX East back in April. Its about an hour long but kinda interesting.
