Mafia II

Really hope Mafia 2 is as good as Mafia 1 (which is still my favourite game of all times). I cannot wait!

Agreed. Its a shame GTA stole the thunder. Thought Mafia had a much more convincing atmosphere and story.

I agree, GTA was a lot of fun but it lacked realism that Mafia had. Mafia's storyline was so amazing, I loved it and actually cared for the characters...cannot say that for most games I play.

First day purchase for me, honestly the first game was so much fun back in the day. Maybe I should load it back up. Hmmmm :)

I can't make myself face that driving and a few of those missions again as much as I love the first game.

Yep, I loaded it back up last month, got into the first chase scene and somehow the car flipped over..said screw this and ended it right there. I'll just watch the cutscenes on youtube.

I know what you mean. The story in Mafia 1 was excellent. The gameplay, however, was very bad. I'm right near the end of it. Need to reinstall it and see if it likes Win 7 64 bit.

oh great ..... it's batman all over again, FFS nvidia i want to get a 58xx not your shitty overpriced cards

The first game was great because is was so hard to get past some levels. This new game I would put money on it that it's about 50 percent easier because they are targeting the masses.

It's going to suck I do think.

I don't really care how easy it is as long as the story is great.

The only type of thing I hope they do away with is the almost IMPOSSIBLE race mission!!!

I think I spent more time on that race than I have on any other mission in any other game I have EVER played.

But yeah..... I can't wait for this

I didn't find the race mission that hard, I think I did it in under 10 attempts. I remember they released a patch for Mafia 1 making the race easier (or giving the option to make it easier) but I beat it before this patch was released. I guess I am just a good driving :D lol sorry

Then buy one, and then get an old 9600GT for Physx crunching. There are numerous tutorials out there on how to get a nVidia Physx card to play with a Radeon doing the graphics. That's my plan.

I wish that this game had a first person view. I was only able to enjoy GTA IV after 1st person mod was created.

Mafia 1 was difficult-made-frustrating by way of its ridiculous checkpoint system. I was more frustrated in having to repeat entire missions and sit through the same cut-scenes over and over again whenever I died. Not before long, the flow of the game and story were completely disrupted, so I get pissed and exit the game. Shouldn't come to that.

Fortunately, I forged ahead, stuck with its clunky controls among other issues, and still truly enjoyed Mafia. Should also give a nod to the modding community; without the mods, I probably would have lost interest.

Mafia 1 is a rare game where it has a ton of problems gameplay wise, but the characters and story are so interesting and compelling that you want to forge a head and finish it. There was no single gameplay element in the game that worked great.

yep this is exactly it, the story and characters were basically their only saving grace. I was bitching and moaning the whole way through, but still finished it for some reason. every damn time I lost a mission because of some retarded speeding ticket, died to some horrible weapon mechanics, or had to redo tons of pointless gameplay to reach a checkpoint, I threatened to quit, but still finished it.

Not to mention the terrible driving mechanics and trying to drive up a hill in the game was painful. The early mission where you are driving the cab and getting passengers god I failed so many times due to those damn vehicles.

I remember thinking that this would be an awesome game for the long Labour Day weekend - great way to close out the summer. :)

Cars back then wetre slow and lacked the hp of later cars.

I'm glad some of the cars were made more realistic of that eras, it made the game more authentic to me then if they made them fast/like cars today.

All true but even at that, that gameplay needed some more work. It's the only flaw to me in an otherwise stellar game.

Speaking of speeding/tickets. I too thought it was good because it gave a good tension for those moments when you had to go fast/wanted to. Without speeding/cops the game will lose that tension and when you do speed through a city street blazing by cop cars, it won't have an impact on the gameplay like it does.

They should have designed the city around the weaknesses of the cars. It isn't fun having to wait a minute or more for your car to slowly crawl up a hill.

I feel you're being too dramatic. It really wasn't that bad. Not to mention as the game went on you got better/faster cars. I don't really recall having any issues.

It felt like that long at times. I really liked the race car stuff though. That was fun once you got used to how it controlled.

That was an awesome video.

Two things I liked hearing. 1) The cars handle like real cars, and have weight to them. 2) The nature of the open world is less arcadey than some other games.

Good.

Because I couldn't stand the ridiculous Saint's Row 2. It felt like it was aimed at 12 year old kids - and is it a coincidence that most younger games said that GTA 4 was 'too serious' and not as much 'fun' as Saint's Row 2? I've got some hopes for Mafia 2.

And look at the release date - what a great way to end out the summer. I can see myself playing this for a couple of hours during the Labor Day weekend. Definitely.

looks really good, the framerate in that new video seems much improved over other previews and stuff i've seen.
