This is regarding this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1621537

Lyquist PM'd me after i posted a thread WTB ipad 2. So i agreed to buy seeing he was a member of over 5 years and has over 3000 posts, no heat through. He sent me this pic through email:

I paid $355 through PayPal on July 10 2011. it was a cc payment as well. Anyways after doing research on this guy i find out he sold the same item to dutnguye. We have both filed paypal claims already and if nothing comes through from that, then a chargeback is in order.

I'll PM him to see if I can get his side of the events. In the mean time please avoid flaring your anger in this thread. Calling people names and asking for their head on a pike is certainly not going to help the situation any. Posting personal information is also not permitted.

355 for an ipad 2 in box? Isn't that hella sketchy?

edit: lol @ his visitor messages

I almost bought a Q6600 from him...Luckily a few very observant members here PM'd me regarding a possible fraud.

so what kind of claim should i file? unauthorized?

never had to file a claim with paypal(knock on wood), but I've been hearing very good things about them resolving issues.

Just get all your info together and present it when they ask for your side of it.

You would file a goods not received claim......however it may be too early for that, so I don't know what the correct way would be to proceed....this is all assuming that he has no intention of making good on these deals.....none of us know if that's the case yet.

just call the CC company and be done with it. DO NOT rely on paypal to get your money back

The problem with any kind of claim right now is that in Paypal's eyes it's far too early to know there's a problem. While I understand why you feel you need to know, they probably won't. A goods not received less than 24 hours after the transaction is going to look bad on your part. I would hold off for a few days at least myself, any concern about money being withdrawn is kind of irrelevant because that can be done within minutes of the transaction.

Do you know what's involved in a CC dispute? It's not as if you can just call and say "Hey, they owe me my money back" and you'll get it. Based purely on anecdotal evidence I've gathered over the last few years, Paypal has a very good track record of winning disputes. Even if you do manage to get a refund from the CC company, there's nothing stopping Paypal from going after you legally for the amount, and odds are pretty high that they would, collections companies are cheap these days.

I talked to paypal and they said that they have hold the money pending the outcome
i hope that it's the case and that the seller has not transfer it in or spend it all already
what a shame; i was planning to use it as a gift for my mom since she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis recently and it would been nice for her.

I paid him for the q6600 and then found out he was a scammer. I told him to refund my money or I would file a dispute. No response so I file a dispute the next day to lock the funds so he couldn't complete a withdraw. In the notes I mentioned that he was still selling the item to other people after I purchased it and I left a link to the thread about him scamming. He sent me a refund within a day.

I see no harm in filing a dispute early. Remember its not the same as a claim. Paypal will ask you for more inform when you escalate to a claim and one of the options I believe is fraudulent seller.

But I agree with the others, why hasn't this guy been banned yet? Or at least banned from the FS form. He really shouldn't be allowed to run around years later still scamming people under the same username. At least with a new username he will be demoted to noob and people would be more cautious.

Did you just start a dispute or did you escalate to a claim?
He offered me a MSI video card last night by pm for $270.00 shipped nib and I sent payment this morning.

Not sure what is going on or what everyone suggest doing but l would like to also be prepared.

file a claim asap

i already file a claim and it seemed paypal has lock the funds according to what they told me

I am guessing even though he was told not to sell he is now responding to wtb threads with very nice offers.
I hope this is not the case but I recieved an offer and paid:-(

It will not let me file a claim only a dispute till the 18th?

A dispute is fine. That will lock the funds so he can't withdraw or will reverse a withdrawl if it isn't complete (usually 2 business days to complete a withdraw). If he hasn't refunded you within 7 days then you can file for a claim. Then another 10 days to close the claim if he doesn't respond. It takes a while but as long as the funds are locked you should get your money back.

Just called paypal, and they have my funds that i sent to him on hold, so im going to hold back on a chargeback for now until the we go through the whole process.

I don't know what I was thinking???

Thanks for the help.

I hope others see this thread and watch out for pm's.

It's odd, I was looking back at some of this guy's other posts, and he's got a lot of posts/years on [H], but there have been other instances where he seemed shady to others, and I also found it odd that he never posts any sort of feedback on any of his threads.

Hope you guys get this situation resolved.

For clarity and for those looking into this. I posted on a recent thread of his good seller. I bought an xbox360 a few weeks ago and the transaction went well...no issue. It was a positive transaction otherwise I would have replied the same as here. I hope it all works out.

I agree!

When I seen his pm everything was looking good. I even looked around but not very far back.

It is rough once you see a thread like this. What to do!!!

yea i don't know what i was thinking. I look at his post counts and i saw he has a lot of sales thread along with a member saying he's a good trader on his sales thread. I search his name on the troll thread and nothing comes up so i thought it was safe

Not sure but I just received a refund from him although it is "Status: Pending until Friday, July 15, 2011".

PayPal said that the money was not in the account so the delay is to transfer funds from his bank account???

"Subject: Darren Veach has just sent you $270.00 USD with PayPal
This transaction is subject to a buyer Complaint, Charge back or an Unauthorized Claim."

So hopefully everything works out for you guys and myself. Just thought I would post an update.

Also on a side note if a seller has a PayPal debit card and is paid the funds they can be spent immediately and there is no wait time.

update on my part: paypal decided in my favor and will refund the money as well

just call the CC company and be done with it. DO NOT rely on paypal to get your money back

you have to link your paypal account to a bank account after you spend over $10k on it...so if no funds were taken from a credit card you're SOL...however paypal over the past year has been better at looking into claims than they were in the past

Heat lack or abundance means nothing. Having three Heat accounts is on the other hand shady.

Paypal likes to hold onto the money as long as possible. That's why there is a delay.

 If heat is worth nothing, then having 3 accounts means nothing, too. After all, heat is pointless, right?

I agree that PP likes to hold onto your money. If you win your dispute, you better hope the seller has money or you will get a nice "we will retrieve your money when it is available." Been there, done that. If the seller sends you money, make sure he refunds it instead of sending you money from the "send money" tab. The seller (this case, scammer) can do a chargeback or unauthorized claim within 45 days and you will see that money gone. The best thing to do is let PP run its course. If all else fails, you better hope you paid with a CC, file the chargeback. Doing so might get your PP account closed though.

Heat isn't pointless, but it's way over valued. People see a big heat rating and common sense goes out the window. Protect yourself on every transaction and your chances of getting burned will go down quite a bit.

Heat doesn't guarantee anything is all I am saying, don't straw man it. A few threads back a buyer got scammed by someone with massive Heat dating back years. Sometimes common sense is better to rely on. Like red flags when some one has three separate accounts...

Furthermore lack of Heat shouldn't preclude people from conducting business.

As for PP you mean the buyer right? Seller can't do chargebacks. PP likes to hold onto money no matter what. Either way it takes it from the seller immediately and does not give it back to the buyer ASAP - whenever it's not convenient for them. Now that is sketch.

Agreed ... HEAT has value IF you use it wisely. In this case HEAT would have been one of a number of flags that anyone could have noted as this being a risky transaction. The first (and most obvious) warning sign was the price. An iPad II for less than $400? IMHO anyone who thinks they are going to get an iPad II for that price deserves to lose their money.

If you're still waiting to get money back from Lyquist, could you please PM me?

This guy is getting around. I bought a AppleTV2 and sent paypal. After a few days, he never responded and finally I submitted a claim to Paypal. Good news is, he gave me a refund, but I see he's still up to his tricks.

I googled his email address. Interesting stuff.

I'll chime in here too, just for giggles. Made an account on here just to PM Lyquist about an Apple TV2 FS - paid him same day. He closed the thread immediately afterward. 2 days later, he reposted it and Discobob bought it, I assume. He never replied to any of my emails or PMs after that. I discussed him with mod 'matrix563', who said I wasn't the only one complaining, and he was also getting ignored his PMs ignored. The whole time, he was creating, closing, and bumping various other FS threads...

I filed a PP dispute citing that the seller never shipped the item. I was then told to wait 10 days and if he didn't respond I'd get my $ back. On day 5, he released a refund, but still never replied or posted comments in the paypal case.

Long story short, I got my $ back, but dude is shady.

I have to think it's kinda weird that people are allowed to close their own FS threads.

I think it is kinda weird that these mods continued to let this guy post after all the complaining.

yea he should be banned
it seems like his name is on the bad trader list at Anand
