ok so when my pc is just running the smp it takes about 5 mim a %. when playing sc2 using about 50% to the smp it takes over and hour a %. Is this the way it should be?

955Be @4ghz 8gb ram

yes, F@H only uses spare cpu cycles, SC2 takes most of it

^ haha I leave SMP on when I play MW2 and my TPF jump up 20-30min, SC2 I believe has good multicore support so I believe his claims

no theres no way to change it without making SC2 unplayable.. SC2 is a processor whore and while yes multi-threaded its not really that multi-threaded..

only some what fix there is, is limiting SC2 to 2 cores.. since SC2 does better with higher clocks then it actually does with cores you should be fine running SC2 on 2 cores..

is there anyway to change it so it uses more?

You can play with the setting between idle and low CPU use by running the SMP client in a dos box with the -configonly or -config flag. -Configonly just runs the configuration and then you restart the client, but -config will initialize your config settings and then auto-start the client.

I have read some complaints where the "idle" level actually took more CPU time than "low" but they are as yet somewhat unsubstantiated. Apparently the "idle" setting doesn't work as it should any more.

I would actually suggest the exact opposite....in my experience, FAH seems to get one of its worker threads hung up by SC2's extensive use of one core. So, even though my CPU usage stays around 100%, and even though FAH is using 75% of my CPU, the ppd tanks.

My recommendation would be to run SMP -2 or maybe SMP -3 while you play a game.

smp -2 and 3? what is that and how do i do it?

They are flags for the shortcut you use to launch the client. In the guide, where it explains how to set up the shortcut, you can substitute -smp 2 or -smp 3 instead of the normal -smp, which will force the client to use only two or three cores instead of all four.

Has anyone who is folding and playing SC2 had SC2 crash (consistently)?

SC2 is fine when i play it without folding on in the background, but when I turn it on after say 30 minutes or so at a scene change it crashes out with some sort of computing related error. Folding stays up just fine though, albeit at a lower speed.

When I get home today I will try running F@H on 3 then 2 cores (-smp 3 and 2 respectively) and see if I get the same problem.

are you folding on your GPU as well?

I wouldn't recommend folding on a GPU while gaming.

Nope, no GPU folding while playing as I have a HD4870 :(. Just the SMP client (all 4 cores).

What's weird is there is NO indication of when it's going to crash. Everything is smooth and then *freeze* some times it catches back up, other times it just sits there and I have to hard reset it.

I've been shutting down the folding to play because of this but since it doesn't really affect playability other than the crashing I wanted to find a way to leave it on for the leftover cycles.

I noticed that the SC2 "Texture Glitch" happens to me only when I've had the GPU Client Running, even though it was in a Paused State.

The Glitch is when a Texture in-game is replaced by a Different, Incorrect Texture, or other artifact.
