The question should be will I be awake then. Now that I am back, I am back to sitting in the channel 24x7. However, I've been awake for the past 48 hours so there is no guarantee I will be awake.Ok. Awesome. Will you be in the IRC channel in 7 or 8 hours, by any chance?
You'll be fine, just read the help dialogs, there is one for each option (usually), if you aren't familiar with the option.Jesus... well, I suppose I might start stripping down the kernel on my own, then
I just got back from mtnduey's where I picked up two more Dell 860 1U servers, both are Quad Core X3220's (2.4 GHz).how is everyone coming... I just got done with all my hardware testing... am about to go help cut a fallen tree of a neighbors fence... oh boy...
will be back later to help with Q....refer to the in house linux expert till then (tobit) ....

This afternoon I am going to remote into one of musky's rigs to install Gentoo for him. Hopefully start rebuilding my farm this week.
Well, operation "musky to too incompetent to do this" is in full effect. My attempt at Ubuntu Server on other SR-2s have lead to client-core communication errors. I do have it running on my dual quad file server - just waiting for something besides a regular smp unit for comparison. Tobit is deligently working on one of the SR-2s now, so we should have some results soon.
Anyone else not getting bigadv units on Linux today? I have three machines all running regular SMP units.

Drama doesn't have permanent consequences in the folding world it seems.Tear is folding again? WTF? He emo-rage-quit a few months ago. Fuck the drama.![]()
True, and what's also true is folding wouldn't be folding at all without the drama. You can't have one without the other.FAH would be much more boring without drama
Good catch - fixedMight want to edit your post, you aren't actually changing anything in grub as it is now.
Anyone captured a p6901 on linux for benching?
Anyone captured a p6901 on linux for benching?
Can't thank you fellas enough for running threads like thisCurrently at 189K ppd on one rig and a whisker away from 200K on the other. The gains have not been equal so I'm hoping it's just a slow 6901 on the latter. A very happy bunny
Sorry mate, I'm not sure how to do this![]()
Great to hear more success stories. What is the rig doing 200k?
Capturing a unit is as simple as grabbing a copy of the FAH folder. Deleting your client.cfg with passkey in it. Keep just *.dat files in the work folder, and uploading them in a zip file - making sure the queue.dat and unitinfo.txt from the root folder are there.
Then we run them with asknet=yes and ignoredeadlines=yes in our benchmark configs.![]()
Interesting results - Ubuntu 10 "Musky's Mix" on SR2#2...
SMP on 6053 unit shows very consistent 58 second frame times - with any NUMA setting.
NUMA disabled: 58 seconds
NUMA enabled: 58 seconds
NUMA: SLES11: 58 seconds
I can't recall if this was the case on windows 7...
bigadv result to follow as soon as I can, but it will have to wait until the morning...
When I had my SR-2, I had to explicitly compile the Linux kernel without NUMA otherwise it would run with NUMA regardless of BIOS setting.SMP on 6053 unit shows very consistent 58 second frame times - with any NUMA setting.

There was a big difference with the NUMA settings in Windows - like a couple minutes/frame difference. This is actually good to know.
I have three running now, so I'll grab one for you.
In other news, I have non-SR-2 results:
Dual X5550s @ 2.93
Windows - 22:13/frame - 58.5K ppd
Linux - 19:51/frame - 69.5K ppd
Percentage-wise, that is close to what the SR-2s are seeing - ~18% increase.
Is that on your asus dually??
Yep, that's the one.
