They have exactly the same panels, don`t know the reason for the price difference. Also, do not believe specs written somewhere, they are probably wrong. Check the LG site for information.
It's no longer available on Amazon. Is it end of life? The 43MU79-B is available instead, which seems to be the exact same monitor, but meant for enterprise, and at only $650. The 43UD79T is also available, which also seems to be the same monitor, but with a different stand. Can anyone confirm any of this?
Just got an email from Newegg...the LG 43" (MU model) Monitor is $550 with promo code:
http://promotions.newegg.com/neemai...0&et_p1=&email64=cmljay5iaXJ0QGdtYWlsLmNvbQ==
That deal might be too hard to pass up.
Yeah, I'm tempted too, but based on what levifig said above, I'm thinking I'll wait until UD goes on sale instead.
For example, not seeing that 480Hz PWM firmware update for the MU. I wonder what else will be missed.
No, it's not end of life: it's simply out of stock. Check other websites and you'll get stock prediction (B&H, for example). Another monitor that has gone through the same short supply is the 32UD99-W.
As for the 43MU79-B, I bought one (I posted about that literally 3 posts above yours). Amazon.com never sold the 43UD79-B (it was always sold by 3rd-party sellers), and they listed their 43MU79-B first when you searched for the UD… which led me to order one in error. I'm still not sure I'll keep it because I doubt LG will release firmware updates/fixes as frequently as for the 43UD79-B. At the same time, from everything I've gathered, the MU has 8ms GTG vs 5ms GTG on the UD. I find that extremely odd, but I wonder if it has to do with firmware differences/optimizations (since the MU is the "business" version, with that ridiculous $2,200 MSRP), though I'm pretty certain the panel is exactly the same.
I got the email as well. Very tempting. First thing I did was come here to see what others were saying about the NE sale. NE shows the response time of 8ms which isnt too bad for a non competitive gamer. I just wish we had more info on this. I still want to wait for the 2018 units. Ever hopefull we get better than 60Hz.
Grabbed one of these on the cheap NE sale. Too cheap to pass up, worst case ill use it as another TV in the bathroom![]()
LOL, meaning you already have a TV in the bathroom?
Maybe I'm missing out... I just use my phone like a poor person, I guess

I believe you've tried several of the 40"+ 4K options, both monitors and TVs, correct? Still looking for that unicorn or was this just an impulse "why not" purchase?

basicly a "why not" purchase
Like Vega I go through monitors every 4-6 months
once a 40" 16k glossy gsync 240 hz OLED monitor comes out ill be happy
I'm starting to consider getting the LG OLED55B6P. It's $1500 yes, so roughly double the price of this one, but you get OLED, 120Hz, Dolby Vision HDR, 94% DCI-P3, and after the latest firmware update input lag is only 28ms which is good enough for casual gaming, and I hardly play games. It's also 55", so you'd need a deeper desk, but you can mount it on a beefier monitor arm with an adapter. Not sure about the response time, but it's OLED, so I'm guessing it's excellent.
I mean if they made a monitor with those specs it would be at least $5000. The Dell 120Hz OLED alone was $5000 MSRP before it got cancelled, and it was much smaller and no HDR. I'm starting to seriously consider it, I always thought TVs made poor monitors, but they've made huge strides lately, and if you're not a serious gamer I really don't see a big downside. I really want a 40+" OLED 120Hz HDR WCG monitor, and I don't see the monitor industry giving us anything like that for a few more years at least. Any thoughts?
That's what I did last weekend and for me there is no going back unless something drastically changes. I got mine when Newegg had them for $1399 w/free shipping. It's larger than I really want as a monitor, but literally everything else about it is so exquisitely good, I don't care. I'll deal with the size.
I posted my thoughts here. Also the lag is more like 21ms, not 28ms if I remember correctly. edit: Oh I see now, you were talking about the 2016 B6 model which did have a touch higher input lag. I got the 2017 model (B7) which has 21ms.
Thanks very much, I'd missed that thread. Just checked, and in the UK it's a LOT more, like $2200 when you convert. I miss home haha.
So it doesn't do 120Hz at 4K?
I don't mean to derail the thread. I'm still on the fence, I don't know... Waiting for the 43UD79 to drop to £650 here as it's currently £750 due to shortages. Again, a lot more. And I got a response from LG, the only difference between the -B and T versions is the stand.
You're welcome. 4K @ 120 Hz requires HDMI 2.1, which isn't available yet to my knowledge. I believe it is possible (from a bandwidth standpoint) with DisplayPort 1.3, but TVs usually do not have DP connectors and even in the monitor world I am not aware of a 4K 120 Hz panel yet. I'm sure they're coming but boy has it been a long wait (and severe compromise for those who have had to choose between 4K @ 60 Hz or a lower resolution at a higher refresh rate).
I don't wish to derail the thread either, but since you mentioned the OLED I figured I'd chime in.This LG looks like a nice monitor for the price, so let us know your impressions if you get it.
43UD79-B vs 43MU79-B (official reply)

Am I the only one who finds this difference VERY odd? But that would explain the 5ms vs 8ms GTG. Other than that, what are the other fundamental differences? Curious to find out which IPS panel is on the MU…
The more I use the MU the more I find it difficult to believe that it isn't an AH-IPS panel: the matte coating is super light, the viewing angles are superb, and not to mention 10-bit color seems to be a thing with AH-IPS too… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ #confused
I just got my 43MU79 and find it not uniformly lit. Left and right sides are darker with bottom corners more than top. How uniform should I expect the screen to be?
I can mitigate it somewhat by making picture warmer (so white is more yellow) with dark room 1 setting.
From what I understand there are no IPS screens per se as it's a generic term indicating particular technology. I'm guessing it's the same type of panel as in UD but driven (slightly) less aggressively because of 3 year warranty.
and if I could piggy-back on that.. what was your experience with the 40"+ 4K TV's? I started off looking at the LG but have now switched to thinking the TV might be the way to go. Would love to hear about your experience with the 40"+ 4K TV's.
Not really a fan, Ive had a 48" Samsung LCD and a LG 55" OLED 4k as monitors and both were good, but too big. 4k just isn't enough at that size. 40"+ needs 5k at the least. I prefer a high PPI![]()
Sounds like that's more about the size being an issue, though; I was under the impression that he was looking for pros/cons of using a TV vs. a monitor. I can weigh in on the TV side but I haven't used any of the 40"+ monitors. Didn't you have the Philips BDM (or another one) at some point? (I can't remember, too many threads and too much time has passed).
Also, did you consider any of the Samsung or Sony 40"-43" TVs? There have been several of those since 2015 - they might have helped with your PPI preference and I know there were people who were very happy with them.
If you move your head around, do the bright spots follow your eyes? ie, is the area centered in front of your eyes always the brightest? Could it just be a viewing angle thing since the screen is so large and you're so close? Here's a photo my 43MU79. Uniformity is better than my TV but shadows do bother me a little especially when in side-by side split picture mode. Does your (UD or MU) look better?
