Left 4 Dead Demo PC

Everyone who is complaining should list their Steam names so when they do buy the game and say how awesome it is after they have complained for months, I can join their game and TK them.

I played the demo this morning and enjoyed it but like most people I think it should have been an expansion rather than a completely new game.

whats funny is everyone is saying it should have been a expansion rather than a new game.

I think it warrants being it's own game. they done enough to make it better and it has more new content and new game play modes.

It's like going from Doom to Doom 2... except I think L4D2 added much more than Doom 2 did over Doom.

downloaded and played the demo last night...

i've been a big supported of L4D2 for a while now... but damn... i was just not impressed with the demo at all.....

probably wont be buying, at all.... even when it goes on sale now, unless the release version of the game is substantially different than the demo....

What didn't you like about it?

What didn't you like about it?

it was just the same thing as part 1.....

i mean, seriously, im not trying to spin it, i've always been the guy on the boards lambasting the l4d2 whiners as a bunch of kids that had to spend their allowance money again for a new game, but i really, really didn't see the big deal about the game....

from the demo....

other than new items and special infected, what was different about the demo from the first game?

maybe the final release will be different (and valve just so happened to release a crappy demo) .... but from what i've played so far... it will be a pass.....

Are you surprised that it's similar to it's predecessor? You do understand that this is a sequel and not a completely different game, right?

the melee weapons felt too much like an unnecessary novelty
how about allow a melee weapon slot that doesnt replace your pistol and then remove unlimited ammo for the pistol (unlimited ammo is dumb anyway and kills the whole "survival-horror" feeling

The sword on expert is amazing.

I'd agree about the ammo thing in a Resident Evil type game, but in L4D the huge hordes of zombies simply demand a shit ton of ammo.

Can't say that I am impressed with the demo.

The new characters are boring. The graphics are actually worse than the first game, amazingly. It looks more cartoonish instead of looking dark and gritty- it's the zombie apocalypse, valve! I am not at all a fan of the cartoon look. I guess it is meant to be a child's game like TF2 aka Mattel's "My First Shooter"?

Gameplay is ok.

It looked, sounded and played great . I went through the single player campaign late last night.

I also played the L4D demo last year and this year's L4D2 demo is certainly better than that one was. Can't comment on the full game since I didn't play it. :D

I've been under increasing pressure from several people who want to make sure I have this game...but who are unwilling to pay for it for me. The single-player demo didn't sell me... gonna have to try out multiplayer, even though that aspect didn't sell me on L4D last year either.

Just had a play through then messed about at the end with the weapons and stuff

We played on advanced and we're fairly decent L4D players but it just wasnt a challenge at all, i dont know if they're cramming stuff into the map for the demo to let you try all the new stuff but you have so many toys like machettes and bile and pipes that it's just a walk in the park.

The jockey and spitter are quite neat but the charger is just lame.

The melee weapons are a novelty and seem way over powered, I shoved about 15 common infected back with the police baton thing, and the machette just slices straight through common infected.

The rest of the weapons are the same as before but with new models and sounds, the pistols have the same ROF and damage and accuracy, so does the shot gun and auto shotgun and the uzi, the AK seemed slightly less accurate and more powerful than the old assualt rifle. All in all it just feels like the old guns reskinned other than the grenade laucher which I didnt get to use, theres nothing new there. The guns are definately more powerful, on advanced the autoshotty is leathal to a huge range, you can spray with that gun at huge range and still be taking all the common infected out.

The new dismemberment is quite neat you get some cool effects like zombies with arms off, and one really cool effect where a shotty blast to the stomach made the zombies intestines fall out and drape across the floor as he ran at us, kind of like a dead smoker tounge, that actually impressed me a lot. Grenades effect ragdols as well which is very cool to see in action as everything goes flying.

The new common infected just seem much worse, theres less off them it seems, they're more spread out, they seem to be more direct and all run straight at you rather than in L4D where some percentage of the zombies like 10% will take obscure routes like zig zag or climb over things they dont need to, it makes them harder to mow down since they're more spread apart, now they seem more boring and just stay level and run straight at you, never more than a few at a time. The AI also spazes out and it makes common infected do retarded things like run up to you then take several steps back for no reason at all, makes them easy to kill. They also tend to glide across the floor a lot, the animations are out of sync a lot which looks awkward and unatural.

Theres still stupid little bugs in the game that exist in the original like the voice chat functionality in the lobby is just badly made it makes you lose focus on the chat box and just irritates the crap out of me, it still bugs out as well. They should have been fixing these bugs in L4D first not carrying them over to L4D2.

Overall its nice to see new content but I'm not moving from the boycott, the game is cool but I'm not paying full price for that amount of content the 2 maps in the demo were short and easy and overall theres not an increase in content equivelent to even match L4Ds original content, and purely in my opinion that content wasn't worth full price point.

So either they provide new content for L4D to make it worth its while and validate this "games as a service" which gabe always pushes and then I will trust them enough to add more content to L4D2 and probably buy it knowing they will support it.

Or wait until its about 1/2 price and the price/content ratio is more worth it. Otherwise, no thanks.

I loaded the demo last night and will try and check it out tonight. I'm really impressed that valve put their balls on the line and actually released a demo so we can have a chance to make up our minds.

That, still fun but this should of been an expansion. I will wait till it hits 19.99 or so

Played the demo, was pretty fun. The graphics have definitely improved. The gun models look improved. The pistol model is very good and high poly. The Sniper rifle looks technically good as well though I'm not fond of the design. It looks like a mp5 with a sniper scope. This is one bloody game. This game has got some of the best gore I've seen in a game. Heads, arms and legs get blown off very nicely. Nice visible damage as well. If you blast a zombie in the stomach, you see their guts.

I do have a minor problem though. I have to disable the multicore rendering option because if it's on, I get random freezing every five seconds or so. I also had the same problem with the original L4D.

Ok demo complete. Sorry gonna pass. Why did this warrant a whole sequel? models look prettier, but I don't see any difference. Also kinda bothered that there still isn't any story in the campaign. The addition of more black people is nice though. Though couldn't Blackness be sold as like DLC to the first one? Easy purchase for $4.99. Totally worth it. Charlie Murphy could do promotional vids to sell it.

Counter-strike source and TF2 are $20 because they're just multiplayer games. Everyone keeps telling me if I wanna enjoy L4D play the multiplayer. OK sell it to me for $20 and I will.

Just got done playing the demo. I thought that I wouldn't like it, (mainly the new characters) But It was pretty fun and the new characters seem to have good personalities ( "Maybe the helicopters made of Chocolate") made me laugh. I also noticed that they added more voice dialog among the npc's , rather than saying "reloading" I heard my character say "Im gonna reload" or "Gonna reload" That goes along way I think. I see that they improved the graphics a bit which is a plus, also the sound effects are a lot better. I also like the dismemberment, especially when zombies blow up from a pipe bomb, makes for a more engaging experience imo. Looks like it could be as good as the first one and Im sure we will see alot of mods that will have to do with the first one. I'll check it out.

You're aware that when he says that it's part of promotional footage, yes?

As for the variety in "reloading" sounds, my friends and I heard a good one today, something like "reloading right here". Just sounded disabled.

Demo was great, alot of guns!!! But definitely not immediate pick up for me. I'll wait until I find a deal.

Yup, I'd pay $30 *tops*, but I agree it is a LOT of fun. I didn't like the first L4D -- this one has me and my son hooked though.

I attempted to load up the L4D2 demo, but Steam kept crashing as it was trying to launch. Uninstalled.

The L4D franchise is a money-making wonder.

Man, I don't know what some of you were expecting. This took the original game, improved the graphics, the audio, and added more gameplay, brought in a new cast of characters and a totally new group of locations. How does that not warrant a new game?

Are you surprised that it's similar to it's predecessor? You do understand that this is a sequel and not a completely different game, right?

what can I say, i was looking for new ideas, and gameplay improvements...

this demo offers none of the two, disappointing.....

well there's definitely gameplay improvements, just not enough to justify the price to you which is understandable - it's not for everyone. i'm surprised at how many times i've played through the two short levels of the demo. i usually get bored with the same scenery...but i'm just having so much fun with this one. can't wait till Nov 17th :D

Demo does not have as many as the others such as hard rain. However I found the AI improved, I enjoyed having to rush through the hoard to shut off the alarm, and the new weapons change the game play up nicely for me. With hard rain the whole map changes over the course of your run. AI with armor and immunity to certain things changes it up a lot as well.

Awesome troubleshooting, as most of us are not having problems it is of course valves fault. Did you try removing the client file? Search for the logs with an error?

I know its not the real versus, but i tried the mod that pseudo enables it and it was ok, jockey sucks hunter feels heavy and its hard to aim with the spitter. but the multiple versions of special infected are neat(wheres the girl tank)

the demo gets boring after playing it for awhile...I never picked up the original so I might pick this one up...will there be any night scenes in L4D2?...or is this daytime only?

I didn't realize there were female versions? Are there female versions of the special infected for all of them?

When I bought Left 4 Dead, I remember it was spurred by having a fun time trying it out on a friend's rig. What resulted from the purchase was a game I launched maybe 3 or 4 times and never touched again when I realize that after that one campaign I was bored of what seemed like the same old same old.

However, I will admit I did have some fun with the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo, but just judging how my last purchase turned out, I don't think I'll be getting into the sequel. I think what'd warrant a buy from me would be a tons of cool cut scenes around the campaigns as an incentive to the single player mode other than a lack of lag.

I wonder if the L4D franchise will ever try and get a a cohesive story running to make us appreciate the characters we play as (both casts have been pretty likable and interesting to me. Well, Rochelle's kind of boring, actually, but a story would certainly have helped).

Get some friends and pickup the 4 pack. comes out to like 34.50$ or something per game.

I will gladly purchase L4D 2... especially after canceling my MW2 pre-order. I loved the first L4D, and valve actually seems to have listened to its community when we all bitched about the sequel at first. After playing the demo, I have no complaints and can tell this will be a great game with as much replay value as the original, if not more.

L4D was an awesome game. However...
I'm having a hard time bringing myself to play L4D2. I think I've logged 20 minutes into the demo...if that. I don't know what it is- I'm not tired of L4D, and this is a new game. I think it is the community...the games I've played blew, and so did the players. I'm tired of idiots running around not knowing what the fuck they are doing, etc. etc. That is going to make me hate the game. As said by me before, if the game community is going to be like the original L4D when it first released, I'd be all over it...but lately, the L4D community sucks ass. I'm hoping the true players only get L4D2, but we'll see. Also, I got tons of lag, which was another huge reason.

I had the same problem, a game file was corrupted. Run the validation on it, update takes 2 seconds and you're good to go afterwards.

I haven't played the L4D2 demo yet (it's on my list), and I'm sure it's great, but I'm glad to see I'm sharing the same sentiments of others. L4D was a great game and a lot of fun, I'm just not going to pay $45 for it "again," especially when L4D2 will probably be on sale soon (if the first game is a precedent).

Well, I figured I will like L4D2 as much as L4D which I still play often. First impression of demo? I didn't really like it but might still buy to play with my brother and friends. It just so bright and cartoonish which reminded me of TF2 which I don't play. L4D is dark and somewhat more realistic than L4D2. Full game might be different but demo disappointed me. :( I ended up playing it for like 1/2 hour and went back playing L4D. It could also be because there's no vs mode in demo. I guess only time will tell after I get full copy.

Its a polished version of the original. Some new zombies. Some new guns. Same otherwise. Ill wait until its in the bargain bin. Not paying full price.

Anyone else getting some weird purple graphical glitches whenever the lens flare effect comes into play?

Also, not trying to toot my own horn or anything, but the demo level's a bit short, isn't it? With even only a semi-aware team you can plough through it on any difficulty in just over five minutes. I expect they've cut some bits out, but the boss infected don't actually ever seem to do anything or pose any challenge, besides the tank.
