wow, this demo is really taxing my system. unexpected. averaging around 60fps, dipping into 20-30s at times.

1920x1200, 4xAA, 8xAF, highest settings.

overall, the game feels different than the first one.

With a power house of a system like that ur only getting around 60FPS? That seems strange b/c L4D is still using the same game engine is it not?

They must have modified it, or added high-res textures or more HDR or something.

I average around 120+ fps in L4D1 @ 1920x1200, 8xAA, 16xAF, max settings.

running absolutely fine on my 4870 at 1920x1080, 4xAA, 16xAF. haven't been running fraps, but i'm pretty sensitive to low fps.

I just RMA my 5870, don't have it right now, so I can't test it...

but my old 8800 GTX runs like crap now

it drop fps down to 20-30 a lot..

Not sure how it'd tax a 5870 considering its the same engine. Anyone noticing any better visuals? I'll fire up the demo sometime tonight and give it a go myself.

overall the visuals look better to me, but i think it's just because of the daytime setting. textures look the same for the most part, but weapon textures look better.

Same thing is happening on my system. 5870 CrossfireX. I turned AA from 8x to 2x and im getting around 300+ FPS now.

my 8800GT runs this fine at max settings
I'm on Win 7 Pro using about 1 - 2 month old drivers

In both L4D and L4D2, if I manually set AA in Catalyst Control Center AA turns off in game. i have to set those options to let app chose if I want AA in L4D.

My 4870x2 is off for RMA currently, so I'm just using a 4870 - no performance issues here in L4D2.

I have not tried yet, but tonight I will see what happens. Just put my 5850 in last night. Hopefully it wont be that bad O_O

What was your highest FPS? I have vsync on so it stays at 60 all the time but it does dip to the 50s from time to time when I look at a big open area.

I get around 60-100 FPS at 2560x1600 with my rig. No AA. Turning on AA makes it take a big hit, but at this res, I don't really feel the need for it. The game does feel different than the first, that was the first thing I noticed. You get used to it quick though.

I dropped down to 2xAA and the performance is much better now. I'm averaging around 100fps and I dip down to about 60 outside.

Also, switched from SSAA to MSAA in CCC.

Played it.. not really liking the daytime honestly. Totally takes away from the experience :(

ps: runs like butter, just like the original.

I like it. Not as many random zombies coming out of nowhere. I can see where you're coming from though.

I don't know what my frame rates are but it doesn't get choppy or anything at 1680 x 1050 2xAA & 2xAF (I'm not really sensitive to those too much) and all other settings set to the highest on my ATI 3850.

It should run the same, considering the system requirements are the same as L4D's.

I made an SLI profile in nHancer and now it runs nice and smooth at 1920x1200 16xAA, 16x AF just like all the other Source games :)

I can run it maxed out at 1920x1200 just fine. I'm not running FRAPS, but I notice no slowdown in framerates at all.

1280*960 everything maxed except shader detail on medium ( or else it stutters REALLY bad ) multicore rendering enabled vsync off never drops below 90fps, mostly in the 120-230 area even with 50 zombies on screen, btw is there any command to cap my fps to 100 ?

specs : E6600 @ 3.3ghz dfi 975x/g mobo 4gigs of RAM @ 740mhz 4-4-4-12 GTX260 192core @ 675 1156 1455 win XP SP2, hope i won't lose much perfomance when i try the demo on win 7

@ maddude : try net_graph 1 and net_graphpos 2 on console (~), it works for all source / goldsource games

They removed the fps_max command in L4D, god knows why...our usual server went down one night and I hosted a 8v8 game which worked really well but could have run a bit smoother for everyone else had I been able to cap my frame rate, this would have eased up CPU usage.

My 8800 GTS 512 performs fine at max settings.

1680x1050, 2x MSAA, 16x AF.

Only dips occur with the pipebomb. (The gibs rock!)

That is the only map that is daytime.

Cool, thats good to hear. I know there is supposed to be dynamic weather and what not, but I didn't see it in the demo. Valve tends to deliver a good experience so I'm hoping the demo was just stripped down (which I'm sure it was). I loved the gritty, dark and desolate cities of the first L4D, I just hope they recreate that. I LOVED No Mercy the first time I played through it. Absolutely loved it.

This campaign will not have dynamic weather, that will hard rain have, check videos on youtube it looks quite cool and dark.

Runs pretty solid on my system (specs in sig are current). I was surprised it ran so well. It used about 3/4 of both cores and ran super smooth the whole time. I play a lot of TF2 and TF2 always maxes both cores; I really wish they would overhaul that game's engine.

I'm on Win7 64bit running current drivers for whatever I've got.

Demo is a great way for Valve to get feedback. Valve are good at listening in my experience so fingers crossed they sort out some of the issues.

Probaly the new catalyst 9.11 drivers for the 5870. I have a 5770 and am stuck with 9.10 and the game absolutely flies on my PII X3 @ 1650x1050 res. Try downgrading.

certainly runs a lot worse for me right now. it's jerky even though I am on a old driver

I had great performance @ 1680 x 1050 w 2aa 16af.

Then I exited the game and it BSOD's on me with a dxgkrnl error.

First BSOD on my computer ever and its been 15 months since I built it.

:(

Played through it twice last night, never went blow 100 fps with vsync off on max settings at 1680 X 1050. I like the daytime, different feel. All night gets boring.

finally got a chance to play it on my wife's computer and it runs pretty poorly IMO. It is certinaly worse than L4D1.

We updated the video driver and nothing else is running on the PC put it freezes ever so often for like 5 seconds.

Gameplay itself is kinda choppy even at 1024x768 and medium settings, no AA or AF

Her PC is an x2 3800+ with 2gb of ram and a 9600GT OC.

A friend of mine had the same freezing problem and needed to turn off multicore in the options to fix it.
