L4D2 demo performance

finally got a chance to play it on my wife's computer and it runs pretty poorly IMO. It is certinaly worse than L4D1.

We updated the video driver and nothing else is running on the PC put it freezes ever so often for like 5 seconds.

Gameplay itself is kinda choppy even at 1024x768 and medium settings, no AA or AF

Her PC is an x2 3800+ with 2gb of ram and a 9600GT OC.

That'd be a system issue. There is no real reason why you're system couldn't max it out completely.

60+, usually 100~ average @ 1440x900, 4xAA, 16xAF, everything as high as it goes. Multicore on, Q6600.

Game is just as smooth as the first one, maybe smoother. Runs fkin perfectly for me.

Hope they fix the 0.5sec delay after the reload animation finishes for some guns until the game registers the reload, slightly annoying :p

setting shader detail to medium fixed 99% of my stuttering problems(can't even imagine running on single core with so many zombies on the screen), one other annoying problem that I have is that when i load a new level my microphone gets umuted so i have to alt+tab and mute it back my self :S
I'm using an x-fi with the march 2009 drivers for your reference.

I dropped down to 2xAA and the performance is much better now. I'm averaging around 100fps and I dip down to about 60 outside.

Also, switched from SSAA to MSAA in CCC.

That would do it. SSAA is a beast of a setting.

Yeah... mine is messed up as well..

E6600
8800 GTX
2GB ram
Corsair 620HX PSU
Win XP

I've put a ridiculous amount of hours into TF2/HL2/CSS/L4D w/absolutely nothing but awesome performance, and now my system freezes every 5 seconds for long periods of time on L4D2. I even jacked the settings all the way down and it happens. Wondering if it was a problem w/my PC, I went back to L4D and it worked perfectly as usual...

I can't seem to find any fixes for this..

Drivers maybe. Try swapping to either newer or older more stable drivers and see if that helps.

I had to disable crossfire to get L4D2 to stop freezing (and I'm talking hard locks requiring a total system reset), but once that happened it was smooth and silky with all settings maxed @ 1920x1080 (even on a single 4890).
