Hi all,

I own L4D, and I thought it was an ok game. I had fun with my friends for the 1st couple of weeks after it came out, played campaign and vs...had fun, but it wasn't anything awesome...

Now I am wondering if I should get L4D2...my buddies are getting it, and I am contemplating the idea, but I don't know if it's worth it.

What's new in this game (except for melee and daytime)? What are the new added features? How different is the experience compared to the first one? Does it make it worth buying?

Yes. The game is excellent and much better than the first obe. The weapons are awesome, the level design is great, useful new infected make it more challenging, etc...
It is worth the price.
 
if your buddies want to get it as well get a 4 pack with them, Games only $37 each that way instead of $50, and its well worth $37 imo
 
I think its good right now but wont be long before valve nerfs everything and makes the survivors have god mode.
 
I am personally waiting until after xmas in hopes they have it for 75% off like they did with the original L4D. I was a little bummed that I could have saved like $30 by waiting a month to pick it up.
 
If you will play versus with friends get it, if you just want to campaign I'd skip.
 
It is more of the same. It's just an expansion of the same game, nice additions, but few significant departures from L4D1.

The main difference from L4D1 is a reduction in survivors stacking up in a corner or closet. The developers designed the Special Infected to counter this, and designed the maps and panic events to reduce this. There is much more battling in the open, or on the move, which is more fun in my opinion than just squatting in a pile just shooting and meleeing.

If you liked the first, you'll like the second.
If you didn't like the first, don't get the second because you'll be dissapointed.
 
the levels are harder when playing single player since the computer controlled characters are sometimes retarded. I like the new one.
 
I find the new open battles and constant hordes and adjusting AI a welcome change. The game is definitely harder. If you have a group of friends to play with, get it! If not, it'll be hard to justify dropping that much cash on it.
 
The new special infected are what make it, I think. The new AI is great as well if you get into a game of "Realism".

I enjoy L4D2 more than I did L4D1 as I feel this one is more challenging.
 
I just completed the first campaign and i think that one alone is better then the whole l4d as a game.. it felt bigger, and more challenging indeed, the end escape was fun to and required teamwork and not just camp in a corner 10min and wait the a car to come in and escape.
 
L4D2's machete and katana are two of the most satisfying weapon experiences I've ever had in a first-person shooter.
 
I really enjoy the demo, but L4D and L4D2 really needs to be played with friends to get the most out of the game. I still don't think it's worth the $50 they're asking, and $37 is better but not great, $20 - $25 is when I'll pick it up.

On a side note, I finally got a chance to try out the deagle last night, can we say XBAWKS huge compared to all the other weapons.

The chainsaw on the bridge where zombies rush at you between the cars and buses is equally as satisfying, but only in that moment.

im a big fan of the axe myself.

At first i was dissapointed in the chainsaw because it used gas, but I soon realized it would be severly OP if it didnt lol.

Ah 5000 dmg to witches by myself in hard rain thanks to my chainsaw lol
 
I would recommend L4D2 with or without friends. I have only played once with friends so far. But, I've managed to find a great group of people (all with mics) most of the time. The new scavenger mode is lots of fun. The campaigns are really long and more challenging than the first L4D. With 4 people, it's still a challenge on Normal. The new Special Infected add a lot of depth to the game and are very fun to play as during Scavenger and Versus. There's a lot to do in the new game. I haven't even tried Realism yet.

Overall, L4D2 is a much more polished product than the original. I paid $45 and I'm very happy with my purchase.
 
You don't need friends to enjoy it. The game can easily be played with pubs and there are many who play the game well and try to be teamplayers.

Personally, I like the fireman's axe.

On another note, it's awesome how Rochelle's shirt has Depeche Mode on it.

Right. i bought l4d1 right when it came out. Patches rolled out consistently reducing the infected powers. Hunter did 10 damage per swipe, reduced to 6. Fire damage bonus removed. Cap put on pounce damage. Boomer cant kill himself to explode like they can in single player.

And L4D was even easier than L4D2. I hope it doesnt happen but L4D2 seems harder and it very well could.
 
The weather and terrain in l4d2 is great. The rain reducing visiblity and bringing a horde is challenging, the wading slowly through water also adds a different dynamic.

A few more DLC campaigns in the coming weeks and months will be welcome but it's a very strong game as it stands now.
 
I hated versus in L4D1, but I absolutely love it in L4D2. Scavenge versus mode is a blast. Campaign versus is much more enjoyable over L4D1 due to the larger, more open maps. The new special infected are great.
 
I too disliked VS in L4D, even more so after they nerfed it all.

So far L4d2 is a ton of fun. I have played online a few times but most of the people leave and eh. Playing through solo is eh as well but still enjoyable. Stupid AI team though lol.

I only found the Katana once, and loved it. Otherwise I stick to the ax. First time my chainsaw ran out of gas I had rushed out to stop the hoard from killing my downed team... got in to the thick of it when it ran out of gas lol :( Glad that it does run out of gas, keeps it fair. Should have let you hang onto it though and fill it up with a gas can or hit people with it. Then it would be even better hehe.

running down a hall, and bating the heads off zombies with the baseball bat is pretty fucking satisfying also
 
L4D2 plays better, looks better and it's generally a lot better. More weapons, more humor, love it.
All the campains are more interesting than the original, AI is better. I found the campaigns are a little longer some of them.
 
Yep; L4D2 > L4D on all possible levels!

Tons of better weapons, funny character(s? well there's at least one :p); the maps are just awesome; several new infected that make things more interesting; and several fixed game-play mechanics for multi and vs.

Playing at lan tomorrow - can't wait!
 
I will nab it when it is 19.99 or lower. Otherwise it is too much $$ for an update.
 
I have friend nagging me to get L4D2 as well. But if I'm paying full price for a game, which I never do, it would be Dragon age..

Might pick up L4D2 for around $20-30. When was the first sale on the first one? Before or after the holidays?

This! Ellis cracks me up constantly - my fav in L4D2 by far. :D

I've played through the first 3 of the 5 campaigns so far - haven't tried Rain or Parish yet; the ones I've done have all been really amazing - too hard to pick a favorite. I'll have to wait 'till I've finished all of them and then played the multi in each before I can pick a favorite.
 
I was a big fan of L4D but I have to say, Valve really did a fantastic job with L4D2. Its really better than L4D1 in every way imaginable and has alot more replay value.
