Hey guys, is fallout 3 really all that its cracked up to be? i enjoyed oblivion. who has the game and what do you think? and also should i gety it for my pc or my xbox? is gameplay better on a certain one?

If you liked oblivion, there's a pretty good chance that you'll like Fallout 3.

Always buy Bethesda games for the PC, mods are what make them shine!

Yes, it's a great game. As long as you understand it IS Oblivion with guns, some modified mechanics and a different setting. In any case, the similarities far outweigh the differences. Anyone who says otherwise is an apologist. That doesn't mean it's not a great game however, quite the contrary.

Looking at your rig, I'd go for the PC version. Should be a noticably better graphical experience than Xbox of PS3: you should be able to pull off 1900x1200 with mostly high settings (I've got a similar laptop which runs there). Even better if you can hook up your PC to your entertainment system. I'd say gameplay is a bit better on PC as well.

Edit: As mentioned above, the ability to get mods for the PC version make it a clincher.

yeah i have to admit i did really like oblivion so i bet i would like fallout. i play my 360 and my pc on the same monitor. vga connection for the pc and hdtv for the 360 so i dont know which graphics would be best.

I would say no. I played through the game, beat it once, and then reloaded and got the other ending and haven't touched it since.

OP - I don't think you really need to ask if it's worth buying. Look at the game sites and the various GotY awards and accolades. Not to mention the poll I made that shows that Hardforum users have voted for this game more than any other in 2008.

I thought the same thing that you did a few months ago. I never played any of the originals but I loved Oblivion. My friend loaned F3 to me after I got it working on his machine, but he didn't like it so it gave it to me as a christmas present.

Lets just say, i'm nearing 70 hours of gameplay and I still haven't finished the game

Im a die hard fan of Oblivion. At one time was playing 18 hrs a day.. (what addicted not me!).

I have to say that this is a bit harder (no slider for difficulty) but in a different way more fun. Setting off a nuke, blowing up stuff and of course watching heads roll, literally.

Cyrodiil is a much more peaceful place than the wastelands. But, I do think the wastelands are more fun.

The Witcher the same game as Neverwinter Nights 2. See how that works?

Stay away from this one. Don't understand all the hype. Combat is clunky. Enemy AI is non-existent. VATS creates pseudo turn based battles. Animation is awful. The only thing it has going for it is an interesting story, good conversation trees, good rpg elements and an open world. That is not enough for me.

Contrary to above posting, this game is nothing like Bioshock.

You are right about that...Bioshock is an "on the rails" shooter with light RPG elements and Fallout 3 is an open ended pure RPG. The only thing they share is the POV.

It's worth it, especially if you liked Oblivion however, it's extremely buggy. The game crashes and freezes often enough to be unplayable on many systems. Still waiting on a patch myself. The official website has said since the middle of December they're working on one, but it's not ready.

You'll likely enjoy FO3 then, feels very similar, but deviates enough from the TES formula.

Get it for PC, especially if you're one to mod your game. Someone already mentioned the site I use to download/host mods: www.fallout3nexus.com

Why dont you hook your pc up to your HDTV?

Yes, it's worth getting. Also get it for the PC. Lots of neat mods have been coming out for it.

I was bored of Oblivion after 10 minutes. Fallout 3 hooks you the moment you step out of vault 101.

its on my to-buy list. #1 on my to-buy list. i played it on my buddy's 360 and was very impressed. i happen to like oblivion also though.

Get it for sure, a really good game and ran very well at 1080p on my 8800GT rig.
Its worth noting that I had hardly any crashes throughout the whole game.
I'll list my hardware in case it helps:

Antec 900 case, fans on lowest speed.
X38 mobo
2x2GB OCz Platinum DDR2-1000 clocked to about 910MHz
E8400@4.1GHz, TRUE 120 + silent 120mm fan
8800GT 20% clocked, 1.1V BIOS mod, Accelero S1 cooler, 120mm silent fan
Prelude
Hiper Type M 630w PSU
2 WD and 2 Samsung Hard disks
LG GGC-H20L Blu Ray Drive

180.84 NVidia driver
Win XP 32bit SP3
Comodo 2.4 Firewall
Avast AV

Something else that may help...
I have 2 USB devices that when plugged in, my PC will not boot when overclocked and has trouble gaming.
Its damn strange, with either plugged in at boot time, my PC double boots and resets the overclock and then boots into Windows at default speed.
The USB devices are my Guitar Hero guitar and a 16GB Corsair USB pen.

If I play Guitar Hero overclocked it will always crash at some random time, up to an hour maybe and then give me the bolox of not booting clocked again.
Immediately I unplug the USB device, my overclock sticks and I have no issues.
My PC was damn stable in Fallout 3 for instance fully clocked!

So maybe some of your machines with Fallout 3 stability trouble have USB devices plugged in causing similar problems.
Before I diagnosed my problem I had already read about other people having the same issue which is why I thought to try it on mine (months later, doh!), so its a known issue.
I always wondered why I sometimes couldnt get my overclock to stick.

How many damn Fallout 3 threads do we need? Geebus...

LOL.....Since your new here, I'll cut ya some slack and not be sarcastic or rude :)

In anycase....just so ya know...This is VERY common, esp here. Whenever a new game comes out and is a GOOD game, EVERYONE (seemingly) gets the game and so, everyone has their own perspective on the game and their OWN questions they want to ask/tell. These forums get flooded with same game titles, but slightly different topics.

You should have seen the forums when Doom 3 came out or when Crysis first came out. The whole 1st page and most of the 2nd page of these games forums were nothing but topics on those subjects.

Sometimes the "newness" of a game wears off within a week, such as AoC....hell, I dont even think that one lasted a full week. Other games, such as FO3 last for months and months. The better the game, the longer they remain topics for discussion.

So, you might be saying....."Why cant they all just go into 1 or 2 threads?"

Well, you got to put yourself in the shoes of those making the threads. Lets say there was just ONE FO3 thread.....yet you had a specific question you wanted to ask about YOUR specific situation. Maybe the game isnt working on YOUR system.....perhaps something thats happening with YOUR game isnt being discussed in said thread. You wouldnt want to ask YOUR question at the ass end of a thread thats 10 pages long now would ya? It might not get answered or, for that matter, it might not even get read at all, cause the people responding to a certain thread are responding to THAT threads title and a lot of people dont want to go reading thru 10 pages of posts, so they will just skip reading thru them besides the first few and the OP and then type in their responses to those posts leaving yours untouched.

So.....You make your own thread.

Take my thread for example.....Sure, its about FO3, just like the countless others....but MINE is talkin about "cool things you have discovered while playing" while others have their own agenda. My thread is, mmmm, somewhat unique, though it is still a FO3 thread.

All in all, it adds to the community here at the [H] as well as adds to the Game Discussions for which this particular forum area is titled.

Cool, ehh :D

Cool, ehh :D

I made a Gears of War 2 thread and the only reply I got was a link to another GoW2 thread, and in the video cards forum, someone was getting raked over the coals for making a(nother) thread about what card to use at 24" 1920x1080. Where's the consistency?

And I'm not talking about a few threads; there are dozens of Fallout 3 threads, with most of them all covering the same things...

The only consistency is in the person posting the reply. Sometimes they know that the question you're asking has already been answered and sometimes the replier is just a dick.
