How many damn Fallout 3 threads do we need? Geebus...
You should have been here when Oblivion came out. The number of Fallout 3 threads seems very few by comparison.

True, but I think I have to go with the guy who mentioned Doom 3.
Fallout 3 is fantasic IMO. You never have to even touch the main quest and you can kiss dozens of hours goodbye easily.
I believe I am the "guy" you are referring to. Yeah, when D3 came out, it was practically hericy (sp) to talk about anything else here at the [H]...until people started to realize that the only real scary thing about the game was when something jumped out at ya from a closed door. Then people started mocking the game...I never played it myself though, heh.
So true about kissing dozens of hours away without touching the main quest. I dont know how many hours ive spent in the game so far (I dont have it from STEAM) and I dont know how to check, but, since work for me has been slower than a snail surrounded by salt....Ive been playing at night after the kids go to bed till bout 5am...so, at least 5 hours a night (give or take) since Dec. 26th. So....15 days (not including tonight) @ 5 hours a night.....I can guesstamate at least 50 to 75 hours so far and im, as I mentioned earlier, have only been in and around the southeast side of the map.
I just dont understand how someone can truely "play" this game in under 20 hours and finish it. Its just my opinion, but I dont think its possible to TRUELY explore and truely PLAY this game having done EVERYTHING there is in that amount of time. Who wants to spend money on a game to only get it over and done with so quickly? I just dont get that at all.
I just now finished the game with nearly 70 hours of gameplay and im sure theres stuff I missed. Im gonna start a new game and be *bad* this time![]()
you should give oblivion another chance. i installed/uninstalled 3 times before i really got into it. i did the same thing you did and just didn't give it a chance.I didn't play Oblivion for very long, but I've gotta say I disagree. I completed Fallout 3 and loved it so I decided to try Oblivion, I couldn't stand it. Maybe it's the environment in FO3 or just that you dont have to walk as far to find something interesting. It's a big map, but there's lots of little stuff to see, where - from what I could tell, Oblivion is just miles and miles of woods and crap. I only played for an hour or so before giving up though.
This game IS Oblivion with guns. I HATED Oblivion with such a strong passion and this game is no different. I forced my way through 6 hours after leaving the vault and I wanted to rip my eyes out.
If you liked Oblivion you'll like this, otherwise if you hated Oblivion I would find someway of playing before purchase to see if you like it otherwise you will have wasted your money. This game is probably my personal biggest overhyped/bad game of 2008. I even called it a long time ago with that "omg FO3 preview video" thread.
All the things I said was pretty much dead on.
