How many people have tried taking a class action lawsuit to their car manufacterer when they get scratches and chips on the paint from using it on the road, like it shows in the comercial?
dont blame the consumer, blame the manufactuer.
FrizzleFried said:Hey Logic...you sound too logical! You must remember you are dealing with a bunch of Apple zealots...these are the same people who sit in Starbucks typing away on their $4000 Apple Powerbook trying to justify why they purchased such a machine. They are fanatics and if your opinion differs from theirs, they attack like you just insulted their mothers. These are the same folks who think they are elite...no...they KNOW they are elite because they CHOSE to purchase a computer that supports less than 5% of the software out in the world...the same people who tried to convince the world that OS9 was more stable than Windows (HA!) and think it was a perfectly FINE idea for Apple to actually have a BOMB show up on screen when their system crashed yet bitched and moaned about the Windows Blue Screen of Death...
You will not win...you can not win...not in their eyes. If it is red, to them it is magenta. If it is blue...to them it is cyan. If is LOGICAL, to them it is an attack on their way of life...
The fact that some have no issues while others do indicates to ME at least that there was at least a good sized batch of faulty units produced...perhaps not every one of them is suseptible to this issue, perhaps it is...but don't try to tell that to an Apple fan...they will just flame you and ignore your logic...
LogicSound said:...the ipod may not be "broken" but inhibits your from seeing the screen i think that speaks for its self.
I think this issue is really being blown out of proportion. The Nano's I saw in the Apple store prior to purchasing one for my wife all had horribly scratched screens, but that didn't affect their usability in the slightest. It was purely cosmetic. I could easily see through the scratches, and honestly, once the screen was illuminated and I was navigating menus, I didn't even notice them. They were most noticable when the screen was off, and I was admiring the unit as a whole, but once the screen was on and I was focused on that, the scratches weren't a factor.
Now, I'm not saying that people don't have a right to be upset about their new Nanos being so easily scratched, they absolutely do because one of the qualities of this device is it's asthetically pleasing appearance. However I don't think it's right to then extend that complaint (particularly if you don't own one or haven't see it first hand) to suggest that somehow the functionality of the device is compromised, because it isn't.
This isn't a functionality complaint, it's a cosmetic one. Still a very valid complaint, but only in that context.

LogicSound said:...whats so hard to believe so many people have payed 250+ for the ipod not after just one day of cleaning and wiping it with a cloth it gets scratched up?
FrizzleFried said:Logic....once again you are trying to talk LOGIC to an Apple fan....
...read my above post...
It is futile to talk logic with these types of fanatics....they simply will not listen...why else would this guy (for example) spend 2-3x as much money for a laptop with 1/2 to 1/4 the power and capibility than what he could have bought had he went with an Intel/AMD "PC"?
These folks LIVE in the illogical land of Applewood...or is that Cupertino?
LogicSound said:please dont fill your apple loving this and that around here with pissed off consumers because they were decieved.
LogicSound said:Schiller said that if customers find they have this problem, all they have to do is contact AppleCare and their iPod will be replaced.
LogicSound said:... we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.
He also said Apple had received few complaints about screen scratches, and that the iPod nano screen was made of the same materials used in other iPods. He said if customers were concerned about scratches, they should use a case.
I wanna smack the shit out of him for that comment. GIVE ME A CASE AND I'LL BUY IT NUMBNUTS.LogicSound said:If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.

What do you guys think?
iPod nano Screen Trauma?
Being a nano owner, and knowing a lot of you guys are from talking about it the forums, I figured I better put up this article about the nano screens being Insanely easy to scratch. I know from personal experience that the one I bought for my fiancée has already picked up some very minor scratching, and she treats the thing like its a rare gem. Could we be seeing the possible developments of another class action suit? Or will Apple step up to the plate and satisfy their ravenous fanbase?
"I don't really care if the case on my Nano gets scratched but my screen has scratched up so badly that all the images are starting to become distorted," Cason wrote, echoing the sentiment of many others in the discussion. "I have only carried it in my small pocket in my shorts and nothing is in there to scratch it. I still can't figure how the screen looks like it has been rubbed with sandpaper when the entire time it has been safe in my pocket (with absolutely no items)."
Now I know we have a good many people who own, or are interested in owning a nano. I would love to discuss it, and get your thoughts.
Apple said that the screens on the iPod nano are made with the same material that is found in the companys fourth-generation iPod, which, to date, is complaint free.
