Just to ask, but can't you people wait a while to pre-order? It's not going to be in store for 9 more days, is it so tough to wait a bit?. I can confirm this... I checked a couple times this morning and there's no way to preorder iPhone 4 once logged into my account on at&t's website.
I guess it won't kill me to wait.
YES I AM REALLY AFRAID OF NOT HAVING THE IPHONE NOW NOW NOW, I MUST HAVE IT AS SOON AS I CAN GET MY GRUBBY HANDS ON IT, IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY WE GADGET FREAKS ARE, THEN GTFO!

The whole point of pre-ordering is so we don't have to wait in line in this nasty summer heat. We just wait patiently in the comfort of our homes while the Fedex man drops off the phone. What people want and when they want it is none of your concern.
I called and talked to a CSR. They said there is an issue and that if you are a premier customer its best to call their number and put the order there.

I checked mine this morning at about 7:30 and was able too.
Go into your account and pick Upgrade Phone. 4G shows right up.
Pretty much gave up on Apple.com
Ordered a 32gb @ 5:30 am and when I woke up again to order another it crashed at the place order screen but my credit card was charged.
Hopefully the second one goes through. The first one already came up on order status.

Man their websites are fail this morning. Both Apple and AT&T.
hey man it works now and I can confirm that the page/ account/ att site is loading better/faster using firefox and was able to place my orders under premier

FUCK YOU AT&T. The message I just posted above showing my upgrade date is in their main database. I managed to get thru on Apples site and it returned saying 'We're unable to upgrade this account'. BULLSHIT
By the way, I managed to get much further on Chrome while my IE is still spinning on Apple's site.

AT&T purposely is disabling online upgrade for Iphone 4.
What do you mean by that?
Yeah their servers must be getting hammered. I tried from my house before I left, both Apple's website and AT&T and both get about 2 steps in then time out. Just got to work and the samething. Webpages just keep timming out and giving me an error message. I'll keep trying though.....

AT&T was broken (no upgrade option), but I managed to "reserve" one at my local Apple store for pick-up that day. Hopefully it's not some kind of sham where I have to show up at 4AM or mine will get sold.
Apple's site went up at about 8:15AM EST and worked okay for about 10 minutes before getting hammered to death.

That's what I'm afraid of. I showed up for the 3G release morning and they were telling people in the line that they didn't even have the "reservation" phones in that morning and that they were due in later that week.
The cconfirmation I got claims that my reservation is good through the end of business on the the 24th...but I'm going to call the store today and hopefully get the real scoop. no money was collected so I have to wonder how much weight this thing even has.

When you try to upgrade on AT&T site, they intentionally post up an message saying there is an error and if you need any kind of help that isnt in regaurds to the iphone, call thier CSR. It makes perfect sense to do this to un-jamm their site.
Nice to be wanted... but the question still stands.
If you think first-minute frenzy is limited to Apple products, you're out of your mind.
I think it's somewhat similar to going to the midnight showing of a movie on opening day. It can be fun and exciting but the movie is no different for people who stall 2 weeks to see it without fighting the crowds or even wait for the DVD/Blu-ray to come out.
It's fun to have your hands on the latest gadget but it's easy to get carried away!

got mine from apples site after finding a nice trick.
if youve been trying to pre-order the phone on apples site, just add a trivial item to the cart, i added a black bumper for the iphone, and inside your cart will be the iphone, just head to the checkout and everything will go through smooth.
im assuming this only works well for those who are upgrading a line and arent changing anything on that line.
