iPad outselling Microsoft

something is confusing me. ipad's are computers!? right?? how come you just said that ipads can't use digital pens. i thought ipads were computers?! are they just toys like someone said? what is the point of this thing? just watch movies and play some low end games?
 
Well, out of iOS, Android and Windows only iOS currently has no support for a digital pen though iOS does have some inking capabilities with its capacitive digitizer.

I honestly can not take ANY post seriously when a person uses M$. I don't love Microsoft, nor do I hate them either, I just wish people would grow out of the 'fanboy' stage.

Also, the iPad2 comes with a cover (case). Usefulness is a subjective matter, I wouldn't use it for things that need keyboard input, but I can see someone using it for email, web browsing, facebook (somewhat), and casual games. I do feel that watching movies on an iPad, or any tablet for that matter, is worlds better than watching on a phone.

That being said, there is no need for a [H]iPad section on the forums, then people will complain and there will have to be a [H]Xoom, [H]Galaxy Tab, [H]Playbook and so on...
 
Unfortunately it seems that most people frequenting hardware forums never grow out of the fanboy stage. ;)

I think people throw around the term fanboy a little to loosely. Everyone has their biases and likes, it's called being human.

Sure I'm a big Microsoft and I've had my spats with iPad owners but it's tended to be stuff that I don't think they were being intellectually honest about and just throw out the term with it little analysis.

Case in point. While I think that the iPad is a great media/entertainment device I simply don't see it as a great productivity tool. Even in it's current form on a good device I think Windows 7 is simply better for productive tasks than the iPad overall. I'll get creamed by certain iPad/Apple people when I make this point but then I say to them, "Why not ask people who have both?"

Anyone researching the subject readily finds that Windows 7 has a good deal of appeal for people who want to do productive tasks, particularly content creation on slates. This is not to say that the iPad is useless as a productive device, it has its uses. But the iPad in its current form was first and foremost designed with simplicity in mind, not as a complex tool for complex tasks.

Yet when I say something this logical and rational with plenty of users with both iPads and Windows 7 tablets saying EXACTLY I'm some type of fanboy nut job.
 
Everyone I know that has owned or owns an Ipad1/2 has said they're useful but don't replace your laptop or desktop with it. Seeing that I'll need to own a laptop until retirement (or until something else becomes a travel/working standard), I see no need for an Ipad or any tablet pc for that matter. I'll keep my money.
 
in hindsight instead of buying a laptop i should have just gotten an ipad. whenever i travel i just use my laptop to check e-mail and browse the web. the only thing the ipad is missing for me is an optical disk drive to watch movies (but that's not really a problem if you can stream movies or download them from itunes) and the lack of a keyboard which is really more of a nuisance than anything

iPad didn't outsell MS. Apple did.

That would be like claiming American Apparel outsold China.

No, the US GDP is greater than China's GDP. American Apparel is only a small portion of it.

Likewise, Apple may have had higher profit last quarter for the first time in 20 years, but the iPad was only a small portion of it (the vast majority of their profits were still iPod/iPhone).

Lesson here: step out of your reality distortion field, then come back.

The iPad is not the reason for the decline in PC sales. The biggest cause of PC sales decline would be that the release of Windows 7 bumped sales up for a time, now that people have already moved to Windows 7, sales are slowing.

But the iPad gives me fast 1024x768 touch-screen access to my workstation via RDP and Citrix so I can get all the work done I need to the fastest.

It's quite a capable thin client.

Personally, I've definitely replaced my laptop with it.

I can do the same thing on my EP121 locally with better touch support actually and pen support.

The iPad is for impressionable people, and young males looking to impress their friends with their disposable income (or to mask their lack of).
 
Yeah, I have a real tablet... It has windows 7, memory and hard drive can be upgraded, same speed as a netbook (much faster than an ipad). It cost me 100 used. It is beyond me why anyone would buy an ipad except the sole reason being that other people buy it.

Add ipads to the ever growing list of electronic garbage that Apple spews out to make a profit. Who cares if people don't need it and really don't want it, they will buy it because it is Apple brand.

Just to add, I owned an Iphone 3g and loved it. I just found my android and snapdragon based phone to be far superior in countless ways.
