Anyone gotten an iPad Air yet? I tried one out at the AT&T store today on my lunch break and was quite impressed. I thought for certain I was going with the Retina Mini, but now I'm not so sure. The reduced weight and the thinner side bezel makes a huge difference when holding the device in portrait mode. Just curious if anyone else had tried one out yet and what your experiences were.

Got mine from the apple store this morning, after selecting in store pickup. The smoothest transaction on an ipad launch I've had to date. I'm very impressed with the overall dimensions and weight, and I too was considering a mini.

I picked one up today after swearing off Apple products for a few years. It's extremely well done and by far the fastest tablet I've ever used. And I've had a Nexus 10 and Note 10.1 recently. My last Ipad was the Ipad 2. You still had to use Itunes on your computer back then. The fact that I don't have to do that, plus the plethora of new features, really makes the Ipad Air hard to pass on. The build quality is just ridiculously good.

There is no reason to keep my iPad4. Going for one of them ---- ipad air and ipad mini

I'm reading multiple reports of the iPad Air still showing lag in animations. iOS 7 is fucking pathetic.

Just tried it at an Apple store. I was shocked at the weight. There was also no lag. Might have to upgrade...

I was reluctant to buy an Apple device, but this thing is awesome. Why can't anyone come out with an android device this fast and sexy? My house is now divided again. Android phones and an Apple tablet. Once my Nexus 5 gets here, I'll be done buying gadgets for 1 year. :D

Have not experienced this.

Its not animation lag. Its animation lock. Its most noticeable with the unlock animation (where the icon fly onto the main screen) since its one of the longer animations. During the animation, the screen won't respond to any inputs. I think its always been the case, but animations are obscenely long in iOS7.

Mine is coming on Monday via FedEx. I haven't had an ipad since ipad3 launch.

Going to sell my wife's iPad 3, give her my iPad with LTE, then either get a mini or an air.

Gonna check both out at the Apple store this week. From what you guys are saying, it sounds like I might stick with a full size iPad and not get a mini.

I'd go to an Apple store and pick it up for yourself. I'm personally still Mini all the way.

im still on original ipad.... rocks solid hardware , but the performance are getting sluggish.

well be upgrading soon!

I got the Air Friday morning and both my wife and I are very impressed with it. The lower weight and smaller size is very nice, and it is noticeably faster than our ipad 3. So impressed that we are considering getting the retina Ipad Mini also when it comes out.

I bought the Moko ultra slim case for it since I found it on Amazon for $5 with free shipping. Great case for $5 although I am thinking of getting the official smart cover despite it being $80, ouch!

I have one ordered. It's my first Apple product. I'm mostly looking forward to playing around with Procreate and a pressure sensitive stylus.

My iPad Air is on it's way as well... got mine on launch day via WalMart's $20 off deal for $479, free shipping. Still coming FedEx, but I don't know which day, but it will be by Wed. of this week. Sadly they only gave the deal on the 16gb WiFi only models. I could have used a 32gb one, but I'll make due with an external drive or something.

I haven't tried on in any stores, but I was impressed with the last version, so I expect I will be delighted with it. Been teasing my son... told him if he didn't stop annoying me (he's 17) he shouldn't play with my new iPad Air. His reply was "You're not getting one so leave me alone"... Ha ha on him!

The next purchase will be a Mac Mini for use as an HTPC. I was expecting an updated version to be announced with everything else, but alas it was not to be... yet.

Congrats to anyone who has their iPad Air or is waiting on theirs to be delivered.

I had some time on the new air. Love the thinness of the device, IMO should have been the iPad 4, but ehh. Its no longer heavy. Its quick, no lag. However if your coming from a 3 or 4...I would hold off. However if your coming from say an iPad 1 or 2 then this is a good upgrade. In addition the mini is really tempting, and the only reason I would go with the air is if the price dropped (which according to a deal thread on SD was like $429+tax) and if you prefer a bigger screen than the mini. Otherwise the mini makes a strong case.

I'm going to have to check it out at the Apple Store when I'm in NYC in a couple weeks. Just what I need, another reason to ditch my iPad 4, ha!

After hearing about the new iPads I was pretty sure I was going to upgrade my iPad 2 to a Retina Mini. But when I was at the mall for a movie on Saturday afternoon I had some time to check out the Air at the Apple Store. I was really impressed by the reduction in size and weight that It seemed like the better option.

Since getting my iPad 2, it has essentially replaced my laptop. Although I was kind of wanting more portability. But since reconsidering I think the larger screen is really the way to go since I already have an ultraportable iPhone that basically does the same stuff. I consume a lot of media on my iPad so the larger screen is a huge benefit. And since it replaces my laptop I do a lot of things like remote desktop and stuff a lot and the larger screen just makes sense.

Basically I was impressed enough by the new form factor and decided that it as certainly a large enough increase in portability to get it instead of the Retina Mini.

That basically sums up my thought process too. I was going to get a Mini Retina as the first iPad I've had in a good while but after seeing the Air I went that way. 4oz difference in weight for something I'd have no problem using all day as my only device at a conference? Easy decision.

Same here. Worst part is we are on OS Life Support :(

Ok i got the ipad air. The thing is blazing fast and well worth an upgrade from the ipad 1.

Very happy so far!

edit: the ipad cover case is really a bad case... im returning it .

Picked up an iPad Air 32GB w/ LTE today. This thing is incredibly light and very FAST. I'm glad they cut down on the bezel size. It makes the iPad 2-4 feel like a brick. Guess this means my iPad Mini is going up for sale :).

I too was going to go with the mini, but Thursday night I found myself ordering an Air. I love it. It will be my lap top replacement once I find the right keyboard setup.

Rant/Review:

I checked out the Ipad Air at a Best Buy Ipad display. The tablet is considerably lighter and thinner than my Ipad 4. It's fairly easier to type on the on-screen keyboard because of how thin the Ipad is now. So when I would write up a few sentences on the app Pages, it felt seamless. I'm still curious to see how the tablet handles chrome web browser (there is noticeable lag/jerky movements with the A6x processor).

Overall however, I think I'm going to keep my Ipad 4 and wait for next year's model (already rumored to be coming out with a bigger screen). The upgrades weren't significant enough for me to be excited to shell out $$$.

Chrome is always going to be slower than Safari on the iPad because it doesn't use Nitro. On a jailbroken device, you can force it to use Nitro and it becomes comparable to Safari, but crashes more than Safari. I don't like browser crashes (at all) so I stick with Safari. Firefox won't even port their browser to the platform partly due to Apple's stance on Nitro being Safari-exclusive.

I did recently switch to Safari, and have had amazing results.

All the more reason why I'm sticking with my ipad 4 for at least another year :)

Got my Air today! This thing is amazing, period.

Forgot to put this in... Posted from the Air in Safari.

I got one. I was going to skip it, but I was kinda sold on Target's $200 trade-in on my 1st generation.
It's a very slick device, and nice and fast, but the build quality is noticeably lower. It looks like they used lesser materials to get it this light.

Lol, wat?

He's right. The 1st gen iPad is built like a tank. Every other tablet feels "cheap" in comparison, but it doesn't matter unless carrying an armor-plated brick around all day is something attractive to you. The Air isn't that much less structurally sound. It doesn't have nearly the same feel as the original iPad, but that's something most people would consider desirable.

For an easy demonstration of what I mean, just tap the screen. It sounds and feels hollow. Even if the surface is still glass, it doesn't feel as nice.

I got one this morning. I think it's extraordinary. The iPad 1 I traded in is a brick compared to this, and the bezel is way nicer.

And man is it fast!

I've owned a Nexus 10, and it's an awkward teenager compared to this.

I briefly owned a 4th gen before taking it back. I thought the 4th gen was heavy and bulky. Not this one :)
